Le Marin Martinique, stranded sailboats, french wine and cheese for Christmas!
We reach Martinique after setting sail in St Lucia. We have been looking forward to this island since we was on anchor in Grenada. FRENCH WINE, CHEESE AND BAGUETTES!
Le marin is an incredible huge bay, with so so so many boats! And completely different from the other places we have been. felt like I was in Europe again. But we anchored ut outside the bay, outside a small village called saint Anne. Better water to swim in, close to the beach, close to check in, that btw was super easy on a computer in the ice cream shop! So now we are anchored up with our friends on SY Isis, and an other Norwegian boat SY Harry Z is soon coming up. NICE!
And btw, there is so many boat wrecks here after hurricanes and swells!
And you wanna know what other cool thing they have? Mc Donalds! haha, first junkmeal for 6 month! haha, felt so bad after...
So this is where we are gonna stay for a couple of weeks, before I go home to Norway for 3 school exams and Christmas. And then coming back before new year

Marvelous Martinique - Beaches, Rum Distilleries, Hiking & Diving
Come explore the French Caribbean with us! Martinique is a unique island with a mix of French and Island culture. If you have the chance to visit - you won't want to miss it!
Airbnb in Gros-morne, Martinique
We found a charming Airbnb with incredible hosts who made our trip memorable. They are perfectly situated in the middle of the island, away from the highly populated tourist areas. Gros-Morne is just a one-hour drive to all corners of the island, and we definitely took advantage, exploring as much of Martinique as possible in just one week!
Mt Pelée
That’s right! We hiked the third deadliest volcano: Mt. Pelée. Pro-tip: start your hike early for the best views and for the least amount of crowds. Hike up to the caldera, around the caldera, and even into the Chinois cone if you still have the energy! Definitely plan to hike around the caldera for the best views over the ocean. After a successful hike, treat yourself to the island’s best ice cream: Ziouka Glaces in Le Carbet. Then, go for a dip in the refreshing waters—you earned it!
Anse Couleuvre
Martinique is an island, and therefore home to countless beaches! We spent one week driving around to find the best beaches, and we found our favorite to be Anse Couleuvre! A remote, black sand beach in the northernmost parts of Martinique, Anse Couleuvre was the least crowded! Navigating your way to this beach takes a bit of effort: a two hour drive from Les Trois-Îlets, and then a 15 minute hike to reach the beach. Trust us - it’s worth it!
Rum, rum, rum!
When in Martinique—take a rum tour! Martinique is home to more than 15 rum distilleries, most of them offering FREE rum tastings! Our favorite was Plantation St. James which includes beautiful grounds and an in-depth museum about the history of rum in Martinique. We highly recommend a visit - especially on a rainy day!
Scuba
Or as the French say, “Plongeé”! There are many dive sites, for which you can see diverse sea life! While we didn’t encounter any turtles, were told you can catch them in the early mornings at Anse Dufour. We saw colorful corals, and even some moray eels! There’s nothing like surrounding yourself in schools of fish to feel like you’ve entered another world.
Diamond Rock and Cap 110 Memorial
What’s a trip without a little bit of history? We visited the Cap 110 Memorial which honored the lives lost in a tragic shipwreck in the 1830s. The somber memorial is a lasting tribute, and offers views of the famous Diamond Rock.
Savanna of Petrifications
Looking for beautiful, vast scenery? Head to the petrified forests and hike to the edges of the world. You can spend hours hiking to remote beaches, away from the crowds. Bring enough sunblock and water, because there aren’t many places to hide from the sun.

Martinique Travel Video
Martinique Travel Video - Martinique is for (beach) lovers. And foodies. And divers. And hikers. And, especially, Francophiles. A marriage of Gallic culture and Caribbean customs, this overseas department of France is a sunnier, slightly less crowded version of the motherland. People looking for the more sophisticated pleasures, whether they be the kind you put on your plate or the kind you put on a credit card, will be happy to know that good food and the latest fashions arent optional here, but a mandatory fixture wherever visitors congregate - especially in its harbourside capital, Fort-de-France.
Volcanic in origin, the island is crowned by the still-smoldering Mont Pelée, which wiped out Martiniques former capital of St-Pierre in 1902. Theres plenty of hiking and nature-watching on the slopes of the volcano. And since this is often called the Isle of Flowers there are botanical gardens tucked into the rugged landscape.
Long luscious beaches and loads of diving are the main attractions in the south. Fishing villages dot the coasts; most of them have managed to hang on their seafaring soul while offering plenty for visitors to see and do.
Theres a lot going on here, but it all happens on Caribbean time. Except for the mountainous north, its an exceptionally easy island to drive around. One can surf at Presquîle de Caravelle in the morning and make it back to Fort-de-France in time (avoiding rush hour) to sample the citys budding nightlife.
Enjoy Your Martinique Travel Video!
