Ep.28-Traditional Tibetan Dance Becomes Part of Daily School Exercise -- BONTV

A primary school in Diqing （迪庆）Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture has made traditional Tibetan dancing a daily exercise. Schools in China start the day with morning gym exercises. But in this school, the pupils are either Tibetan or from nearby counties. One of their favorite activities is Guozhuang(锅庄) dancing. It's a type of group dance and dancers usually stand in a circle. Instead of doing gym exercises, pupils in this school dance in traditional Tibetan clothes in the playground.

We worry that our culture may get lost in our generation or the next generation. So we make Guozhuang dancing and Xianzi(弦子) dancing daily exercises, so that the children not only strengthen their bodies, but also inherit an important part of our Tibetan culture.
The school has invited a professional choreographer to teach Xianzi dancing, another form of Tibetan dance- to be taught next semester.
Recently, as more and more tourists are visiting Tibet, their traditional dancing has become a popular attraction. However it's not a performance to be watched in a theatre. Instead, it's to be enjoyed by a large group of people observing their ceremonies.
