Buenos Aires is one of the most beautiful and vibrant city in Latin America with a long and interesting history. First settled by the conquistadors in the 16th century, the capital of Argentina lived in the shadow of the richer imperial cities like Cuzco and Mexico. In the late 19th century, the industrialization and technological progress allowed to export meat and agricultural products overseas. A massive wave of European immigrants arrived in Argentina to fuel this economic boom. In 1914, half of Buenos Aires’s population was foreign-born. In the 43 years leading up to 1914, GDP had grown at an annual rate of 6%, the fastest recorded in the world. Argentina ranked among the ten richest countries in the world ahead of France, Germany and Italy. This period was known as the Belle Époque and considerable fortunes were made in Buenos Aires. The new European settlers re-shaped the city based on the architectural standards of their homeland countries (mainly Italy, Spain and France). The curious visitor wandering around Buenos Aires may feel lost in Paris, Madrid or Rome because of the city's stunning architecture and cosmopolitan atmosphere. In fact, Buenos Aires is often called the Paris of Latin America.
Unfortunately, the first World War dramatically reduced the flow of exports and foreign investments. The country got caught in troubled times marked by a succession of military coups. The first came in 1930; others followed in 1943, 1955, 1962, 1966 and 1976. The election of 1989 marked the first time in more than 60 years that a civilian president had handed power to an elected successor.
But Buenos Aires is more than a city, it's the reflection of a beautiful nation full of warm and sophisticated people. One of the most influential and populous cities in South America, a thriving cultural hub rich of traditions. The food, the art, the Tango dance, the opera, the great universities, Buenos Aires has it all.

Convento Santo Domingo, Celda de San Martín - San Juan (Argentina)
La Celda de San Martín es la denominación de un celda ubicada en el Convento de Santo Domingo en la ciudad de San Juan, Argentina, donde se alojó el General Argentino José de San Martín en 1815, tras su visita a la nombrada ciudad.1
El convento de Santo Domingo aun existe, aunque fue mayormente destruido en el terremoto de 1944, curiosamente, la celda de San Martín no se vio comprometida en su estructura y aun se halla en pie conservando el mobiliario existente al momento de la visita. Su ubicación de acuerdo con la cartografía actual la ubica en calle Laprida 57 oeste.
El 9 de julio de 1815, el general José de San Martín se hallaba asentado en la Ciudad de Mendoza desempeñándose como gobernador de la Provincia de Cuyo. Entró a la ciudad de San Juan por la actual calle Mendoza, en ese entonces calle Real de las carretas, y se alojó en una de las celdas del convento de Santo Domingo. En esa celda donde se desarrolló una reunión con su teniente gobernador José Ignacio de la Roza, con el fray Santa María de Oro y con un joven Francisco Narciso de Laprida, y los dirigentes dieron el total apoyo de los sanjuaninos a sus planes de liberación del Chile y el Alto Perú.
Los historiadores sostienen que de esas conversaciones de los sanjuaninos se gestó otro hecho de gran peso histórico: un año después, el 9 de julio de 1816, Francisco Narciso de Laprida y el fray Santa María de Oro respondieron a un pedido especial de San Martín en el Congreso de Tucumán para que apuraran la declaración de la independencia del reino de España, la cual se logró durante la presidencia de Laprida en el Congreso de Tucumán. Santa María de Oro hizo una férrea defensa del sistema republicano de gobierno.
Luego de esta visita a la ciudad partió hacia la Cordillera de los Andes buscando los pasos más adecuados para el Ejército de los Andes en su campaña para invadir Chile y liberarla del dominio español.
The Cell of Saint Martin is the name of a cell at the Convent of Santo Domingo in the city of San Juan, Argentina , where he stayed the Argentine General José de San Martín in 1815 , after his visit to the named ciudad.1
The convent of Santo Domingo still exists , although it was mostly destroyed in the 1944 earthquake , interestingly, the cell of St. Martin was not compromised in its structure and is standing still retaining the existing furniture at the time of the visit. On July 9, 1815 , General José de San Martín was settled in the city of Mendoza serving as governor of the Province of Cuyo. He entered the city of San Juan Mendoza by the current street , then Real street carts , and stayed in one of the cells of the convent of Santo Domingo. In the cell where a meeting with his lieutenant governor José Ignacio de la Roza, with Fray Santa Maria de Oro and a young Francisco Narciso Laprida developed, and the leaders he had the full support of the San Juan its plans to release Chile and Upper Peru .
Historians argue that those conversations sanjuaninos another fact of great historical weight was conceived : one year later, on July 9, 1816 , Francisco Narciso Laprida fray and Santa María de Oro responded to a special order of St. Martin in Congress of Tucumán to hurry up the declaration of independence of the Kingdom of Spain , which was achieved under President Laprida in the Congress of Tucumán. Santa María de Oro made a strong defense of the republican system of government.
After this visit to the city left for the Andes looking for the most suitable for the Army of the Andes in his campaign to invade and liberate Chile from Spanish rule steps.
