The North Cape
Doug Pearson / Getty Images
For us, the top attraction in Norway is the North Cape. A quarter of a million tourists visit the North Cape each summer, making it one of Norway's most popular sights. The North Cape is a monumental, natural experience offering breathtaking views, unusual climatic conditions, the dramatic cliff itself...and one is standing at Europe's northern end. You'll find the North Cape in the region of Finnmark.

The Geirangerfjord in Norway

The beauty of the Geirangerfjord, with its waterfalls and cliffs, is hard to surpass. If you haven't seen the Geirangerfjord, then you really haven't seen all of Norway, which is the reason many Scandinavian cruises include the town of Geiranger in their cruise itinerary. On a map, you'll find the Geirangerfjord about halfway between Trondheim and Bergen. Popular activities at the Geirangerfjord include guided tours, hiking, fishing, and boating.

Our favorite attraction in the Norwegian town of Bergen is the old Bryggen wharf. Bryggen (wharf in Norwegian) consists of 14th century Hanseatic buildings, which are free to visit and a great photo opportunity. Today, more than 60 buildings of the original wharf are still standing, and Bryggen is both a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the top sights in Norway.

Travel video about destination Norway.
Norway is a fascinating land in the extreme north of Europe where both magic and fairytales are very much alive. It has crystal clear lakes and rivers, snow covered mountains, idyllic fishing villages and endless beaches that are only accessible by boat.Although the Norwegian metropolis of Oslo is a modern city it continues to be inspired by the lively spirit of its past traders, fighting men and seafarers. Oslo is a harbour town that lies well sheltered at the end of a fjord and in the ninth century it was much appreciated by the Vikings who travelled throughout the known world, plundering much of it! Bergen’s main tourist attraction is the Bryggen district that originated in the middle of the fourteenth century when it was heavily influenced by the North German Hanseatic Office. The city not only boasts a fascinating history but also a number of music festivals and it was the birthplace of world famous composer Edvard Grieg. Trondheim is Norway’s historic capital in which the country’s kings have been crowned. The Nidaros Domkirke is the most splendid Gothic cathedral in northern Europe. It was built on the bones of Holy Olav. For several centuries it has been a place of pilgrimage and since the Middle Ages the Norwegian kings were crowned and also entombed within its walls. The small village of Nusfjord is located in front of a captivating backdrop of mountains. Due to its unique location it looks more like a high mountain village than a fishing settlement. It is both an historical as well as a cultural treasure. It is easy to understand why the descendants of the Vikings are so proud of their fascinating home in the extreme north. Norway, a country bursting with breathtaking and untamed beauty!

Northern Norway
Northern Norway is by far the largest and most sparsely populated
part of mainland Norway, and covers more than a third of the country.
It stretches from the idyllic Helgeland region in the south, to mainland
Europe’s northernmost point, near the North Cape.
The Svalbard Islands
The Svalbard Islands are located in the Arctic Ocean, halfway between
Norway and the North Pole. Here, you will find untouched arctic
wilderness and unique wildlife in a setting that is both rugged and
fragile at the same time.
Fjord Norway
Western Norway is a region of narrow fjords cutting into tall
mountains, of waterfalls cascading down mountainsides, and of
glaciers that never melt. Spectacular architecture and exiting food
made from local produce enhance the experience.
Eastern Norway
Ambitious architects and young chefs are taking Oslo to new heights. If
that doesn’t make you dizzy enough, try hiking to Galdhøpiggen,
Norway’s highest peak at 2469 metres above sea level.
Southern Norway
Visit Southern Norway and experience Norwegian culture with snow
skiing, hiking and an amazing coastline with boating and bathing
opportunities.
Trøndelag
Rooted in Norwegian traditions in the middle of Norway, Trøndelag is
a perfect base for experiencing nature, culture and Norway’s exciting
history.
TROMSØ
This modern city in the Arctic is where nature and culture go hand-in-
hand. Here you will find attractions from an aquarium and several
museums to the world’s northernmost botanical garden. It’s also an
ideal place to observe the majestic phenomenon of the northern
lights.
OSLO
metropolitan city with forests and fjord
Between the Oslofjord and the forests lies Norway’s capital and largest
city, with its vibrant social scene and special combination of nature
experiences and city life.
Oslo is one of Europe’s fastest-growing cities, with a population
approaching 700,000 and new neighborhoods with eye-catching
architecture. The largest city in Norway is quickly transforming into a
cosmopolitan hub with an abundance of world-class museums,
restaurants and art, but still maintains the relaxed atmosphere of a
much smaller town.
BERGEN
The gateway to the fjords
Bergen is Norway's second largest city, and lies clambering up the
mountain sides, overlooking the sea, embracing you. You can roam
through living history in this modern city, before continuing on to
explore the wildest and loveliest fjords of Norway.
On a Norwegian scale, Bergen is a large city, but one with a small-town
charm and atmosphere. Its passionately patriotic inhabitants are
proud of their many-sided city and its history and cultural traditions.
Many are only happy to direct visitors to their favourite local
attraction, coffee-shop or restaurant.
Trondheim
Trondheim – an intimate big city in Norway
Trondheim is Norway’s third largest city. Getting here is easy and it’s a
perfect base for exploring the region.
Trondheim has many names. It’s a city of students, technology, culture,
cycling and food. The 30,000 students, many of whom attend the
Norwegian University of Science and Technology, leave their mark on
the city and contribute to a high level of innovation and a vibrant
cultural life.
STAVANGER
The city of natural highs
Breathtaking surroundings with beautiful fjords, mountains and long,
white beaches. As a former European Capital of Culture, Stavanger
also boasts an impressive assortment of museums and cultural events.
The Stavanger region boasts many scenic attractions, among them the
Lysefjord, Sola beach and the world famous Preikestolen (the Pulpit
Rock). Preikestolen is located 604 metres above sea level and is the
most visited attraction in the county of Rogaland. Lonely Planet
named it the number one most breathtaking viewing platform in the
world.
