Patagonia: Los Antiguos, Cave of the Hands, Pico Truncada, Comordoro Rividavia. Argentina travel trip. Santa Cruz Province. On the way to Los Antiguos, we stopped at Estancia Don Jose near the town of Rio Mayo. This ranch is one of 6 which raise guanacos for their wool. After lunch and a visit with some of the guanacos and a few rheas, we drove to Los Antiguos, a town near the Chilean border and on the shores of Lago Buenos Aires, the 2nd largest lake in South America. Here, we visited the Canon del Rio Pinturas and Cueva de las Manos where we viewed petroglyphs and pictographs dating back at least 9,000 years. Our guide, Harry, pointed out unique areas and drawings, like the one where the guanacos are chasing the hunters. At Pico Truncada we visited the wool scouring plant that processes the wool gathered at Estancia Don Jose. Our last night together was in Comordora Rividavia on the coast where we were treated to a lovely sunset and farewell dinner. After visiting the Marble Caves in the morning, we drove to Perito Moreno. Not to the Perito Moreno Glacier, Lake Perito Moreno or the Perito Moreno National Park, but to the village called Perito Moreno.
The road along the Lago General Carrera (General Carrera Lake) in Chile was unpaved and a feast to drive. In the village Puerto Guadal we have eaten delicious empanadas. This Panaderia La Ruta has won the award for best empanada of Chile in 2016. I can tell you: in 2017 the empanadas were still very good!
Between Chile Chico and Los Antiguos we have crossed the border. In Argentina the Genenral Carrera Lake is called Lago Buenos Aires (Lake Buenos Aires). The road along Lago Buenos Aires is paved and straight. Despite of the strong wind we arrived soon in Perito Moreno.

Colorado Scenic Byways: Los Caminos Antiguos
Los Caminos Antiguos is a scenic highway passes thru the San Luis Valley in southern Colorado. It passes thru the Sangre de Cristo Mountain range, viewing the Blanca Peak and Crestone Peak, all higher than14,000 ft. I drove thru this scenic byway while visiting the Great Sand Dunes National Park in May, 2015.
Tour Del Vino en Mendoza, Argentina en Bodegas López
Esta semana tuvimos la oportunidad de visitar Bodegas López, una de las bodegas más históricas y famosas de Mendoza, Argentina. Nuestro día en la bodega comenzó con un desayuno de medialunas, facturas, pan casero, mermelada, mantequilla, jamón crudo, jugo de naranja, té y café.
Luego recorrimos las instalaciones aprendiendo sobre el proceso de la producción del vino. De ahí continuamos a la zona de viñedos donde tuvimos la oportunidad de degustar las uvas Malbec. También pudimos ver algunos de los vinos más antiguos de la bodega como el Chateau Vieux Gran Reserva del año 1938.
Después fuimos al restaurante Rincón de Lopez donde almorzamos empanadas, bife de lomo con ensalada y papas al horno, y un delicioso postre de maracuyá - acompañados con tres diferentes variedades de vino. Al final de la visita, bajamos a la cava donde degustamos cuatro vinos más!
Nuestro tour de Bodegas López fue una experiencia muy interesante y divertida, y es algo que les recomendaríamos hacer si visitan Mendoza. Nuestro guía Nicolás fue muy informativo y conocedor, y aprendimos mucho sobre la producción de vino. Esperamos volver a visitar algún día!
We recently had the opportunity to visit Bodegas Lopez, one of the most historic and famous vineyards in Mendoza, Argentina.

Our full day tour started with a complete breakfast that included homemade bread, pastries, jamon crudo, marmalade, butter, orange juice, tea and coffee.
We toured the facilities where wine is produced learning about the entire process. From there, we continued to the vineyard where we had the chance to sample Marlbec grapes. We also got to look at some of the oldest wine at the bodegas like the Chateau Vieux Gran Reserva that dates back to 1938.
For lunch we had a 3-course meal consisting of empanadas, beef with roasted potatoes and salad, and a delicious passion fruit cheesecake - all paired with 3 different types of wine.
The final part of the tour included a special visit to the wine cellar where we sampled four more wines.
Overall, our tour at Bodegas Lopez was a really fun and informative experience that we would recommend to anyone visiting Mendoza! Our guide, Nicolas, was informative, knowledgable and passionate about wines and we learned a lot from him.
We hope to be back again some day!

1. Whale-watch in Puerto Madryn
============================
Patagonia offers some of the world's best whale-watching and Puerto Madryn is the place to glimpse them. Its warm, more enclosed waters along the Golfo Nuevo, Golfo San José and the coastline near Caleta Valdés are prime breeding zones for southern right whales between June and mid-December. A standard whale-watching trip lasts an hour and a half, but longer excursions are available too.
2. Outdoor adventures in El Chaltén

El Chaltén's surrounding mountains are prime hiking, rock climbing and horseback riding territory so if you're into outdoor adventure, this is the spot for you. Think mountain traverses, mountain ascents and rock-climbing classes. You can go horse-riding to the pretty valley of R?o de las Vueltas or take a more challenging ride up the Vizcacha hill followed by a barbecue on a traditional ranch. There are also ice-climbing courses and ice treks available.
3. Dinosaur discovery at the Palaeontology Museum

Showcasing the most important fossil finds in Patagonia, this natural-history museum offers outstanding life-sized dinosaur exhibits and more than 1700 fossil remains of plant and marine life. The three-hour guided visits are a walk through time, along a well-designed nature trail past a wealth of exposed fossils dating as far back as the Tertiary, some 40 million years ago. The Dinosaur route in northwest Patagonia is a wonderful adventure. The skeletons of the biggest dinosaurs ever to have walked the planet are, palaeontologists insist, buried in this region's red-rock badlands; and discoveries to date in the area have forced scientists to rethink established theories. 5. Penguin-watch at Punta Tombo

Punta Tombo has a colony of more than half a million Magellanic penguins and attracts many other birds, most notably king and rock cormorants, giant petrels and black oystercatchers. Most nesting areas in the 200-hectare reserve are fenced off: respect the limits and remember that penguins can inflict serious bites. Trelew-based travel agencies run day-long tours but may cancel if bad weather makes the unpaved roads impassable.
6. Explore Cueva de las Manos

The incredible rock art of Cueva de las Manos (Cave of the Hands) was proclaimed a Unesco World Heritage site in 1999. Dating from about 7370 BC, these polychrome rock paintings cover recesses in the near-vertical walls with imprints of human hands, drawings of guanacos and, from a later period, abstract designs. Free guided walks are given every hour by knowledgeable staff. There’s an information centre and a basic confiter?a, but it’s best to bring your own food.
7. Stay at a ranch

Estancia Telken offers a welcoming stay in the pretty countryside of Los Antiguos. This 1915 working sheep and horse ranch 25km south of Perito Moreno has about 210 sq km of horseback riding and hiking possibilities, including a worthwhile meander along a creek bed up to the basalt plateau Meseta de Lago Buenos Aires.
8. Escape from it all in Camarones
============================
Camarones takes home the gold for Patagonia’s sleepiest coastal village. Empty beaches are perfect for strolling and the sociable townsfolk are masters of the art of shooting the breeze. It is also the closest hub to the lesser-known Cabo Dos Bah?as nature reserve, where you can visit 25,000 penguin couples and their fuzzy chicks. The very helpful oceanfront tourist office offers maps, good tips on scenic outings and lodging information.
9. Watch glaciers at Parque National los Glaciares
============================
Glaciar Perito Moreno is the stunning centrepiece of the southern sector of Parque Nacional Los Glaciares. Locally referred to as Glaciar Moreno, it measures 30km long, 5km wide and 60m high, but what makes it exceptional in the world of ice is its constant advance – it creeps forward up to 2m per day, causing building-sized icebergs to calve from its face. In some ways, watching the glacier is a very sedentary park experience, but it manages to nonetheless be thrilling. The main gateway town to the park’s southern sector, El Calafate is 80km east of the glacier by road. This is where you’ll find all the operators for tours and activities too.

Rome, the Eternal City. After several trips to Italy, we finally managed to visit our biggest oversight: the capital! From wandering through Roman ruins to devouring pizza, and climbing up lookout points to feasting on gelato, in this travel guide, we’re going to share with you 20 things to do in Rome, Italy:
We reached Roscioli which was the best pizza in Rome. Pizzas are served by the weight and we sampled 7 different pizza slices.
We stopped at Largo di Torre Argentina an archaeological site home to four different temples containing parts of the portico of Pompey.
It was a short walk to the Pantheon, a former Roman temple turned church, which dates back to the year 125 AD. The Pantheon boasted the world’s largest cupola up until the 15th century, and it is still the largest unreinforced concrete dome in existence to this day making it one of the greatest architectural achievements by the ancient Romans.
If you want to find the best gelato, look for colours that are muted with small batches.
One of the many things to do in Rome, was to visit the Trevi Fountain. This is the largest Baroque fountain in the city.
Rome’s most famed attraction is the Colosseum and its surrounding ruins. We started our visit on Palatine Hill, the most central of Rome's seven hills. What visitors see today are the ruins of the Palace of Domitian, a 1st-century complex, which served as the main imperial palace for 300 years. We continued to the Roman Forum. This square was the centre of ancient Roman life, with government buildings, temples, and markets. We reached the Colosseum, which was the largest amphitheatre ever built and could hold an estimated 50,000 and 80,000 spectators.
Walking through the Vatican Museum was more overwhelming than enjoyable. We visited Vatican City to climb St. Peter’s Basilica for views of Rome.
Castel Sant’Angelo was commissioned by the Roman Emperor Hadrian as a mausoleum for himself and his family.
Villa Borghese is the 3rd largest public park in Rome with gardens, villas, and ponds with views of the city overlooking Piazza del PO-polo, the people’s square.
