The municipal seat is in the frazione of Boleto. It borders the following municipalities: Arola, Cellio con Breia, Cesara, Civiasco, Pella, Pogno, San Maurizio d'Opaglio, Valduggia, Varallo Sesia.

The Santuario della Madonna del Sangue is a sanctuary in the comune of Re, Italy. It is devoted to the Virgin Mary and it was built where in 1494 a miracle occurred: a small fresco of the Nursing Madonna was hit by a stone and started bleeding. This sanctuary is the destination of many pilgrimages from the area and is the most important religious place in Val Vigezzo. The castle of Visconteo, which is at the edge of the Old Town, is one of the masterpieces designed by non other than renaissance genius - Leonardo da Vinci. Castle of Visconteo gives Switzerland its own da Vinci relic.
Not so far from the city center is the holy mountain of Madonna del Sasso. It is considered as one of the most popular pilgrimages in the region. Popular folklore says that Virgin Mary appeared on this site in 15th Century. Walking up to the hill spot is considered auspicious, although the monastery can as well be reached by a classical funicular train.

Funicolare Locarno - Madonna del Sasso
EN:The Funicular Locarno Madonna del Sasso (FLMS) opened in 1906 and connects Locarno with the village of Orselina and the pilgrimage church Madonna del Sasso. Locarno itself is located on the picturesque Lake Maggiore in the Swiss canton of Ticino. The lower station is only a few minutes walk from the railway stations of the SBB (Gotthard branch line from Bellinzona) and the FART (Centovallibahn to Domodossola).
On a length of 825 meters, the two 1958 introduced cars rise a total of 173 meters in height. In the summer months the trains every 15 minutes, in the evening and in the winter months every 30 minutes.
At the upper station you can change into the ropeway to the summit Cardada mountain on 1340 meters over sea level.

Locarno selbst liegt malerisch am Lago Maggiore im schweizerischen Tessin. Die Talstation befindet sich nur wenige Gehminuten von den Bahnhöfen der SBB (Gotthard-Zweigstrecke von Bellinzona) und der FART (Centovallibahn nach Domodossola).
Auf einer Länge von 825 Metern überwinden die beiden 1958 eingeführten Wagen insgesamt 173 Höhenmeter. In den Sommermonaten verkehrt die Bahn im 15min Takt, am späten Abend sowie in den Wintermonaten im 30min Takt.
An der Bergstation kann in die Seilbahn zum 1340 Meter hoch gelegenen Aussichtsberg Cardada umgestiegen werden.

Su una lunghezza di 825 metri, le due vetture introdotte nel 1958 sorgono su un totale di 173 metri di altezza. Nei mesi estivi i treni ogni 15 minuti, la sera e nei mesi invernali ogni 30 minuti.
Nella stazione a monte si può passare in funivia verso il monte Cardada (1340 metri s.l.m.).
