It was the site of the Siege of Mafeking during the Second Boer War. Located close to South Africa's border with Botswana, Mahikeng is 1,400 km northeast of Cape Town and 260 km west of Johannesburg. In 2001, it had a population of 49,300. In 2007, Mafikeng was reported to have a population of 250,000 of which the CBD constitutes between 69,000 and 75,000. The Siege of Mafeking was a 217-day siege battle for the town of Mafeking in South Africa during the Second Boer War from October 1899 to May 1900. The siege received considerable attention as Lord Edward Cecil, the son of the British Prime Minister, was in the besieged town. The siege turned the British commander, Colonel Robert Baden-Powell, into a national hero. The Relief of Mafeking , while of little military significance, was a morale boost for the struggling British.

If you are looking for some of the last true wilderness in Africa then Botswana is the place to go. Enjoy this aerial cinematic celebration of the Okavango Delta and the Makgadikgadi Pans. All filmed with the Phantom 4 Pro drone. Filming wildlife with drones has quickly got a very bad reputation. Animals running in panic from a drone justifiable annoys animal lovers and park authorities . So I took considerable care to film without disturing animals. It is possible if done correctly.

During my 11 day trip I was stunned by the scenic views throughout the country and the Mother City, saw beautiful wild life at Gondwana Game Reserve and met nice people at township Hout Bay. We ended the trip tasting some fine wines in Franschhoek and Stellenbosch.
