Maldegem is a municipality located in the Belgian province of East Flanders. The municipality comprises the villages of Maldegem, Adegem and Middelburg. Kleit and Donk have always been separate hamlets of Maldegem. On January 1, 2006, Maldegem had a total population of 22,289. The total area is 94.64 square kilometres which gives a population density of 236 inhabitants per km². The Stoomcentrum Maldegem is located at the former NMBS railway station at Maldegem.

Stoomcentrum Maldegem , literally Maldegem Steam Centre, is a heritage railway located at Maldegem in northern Belgium. It is located at the former NMBS station. Standard gauge trains run on the line to Eeklo, where the SCM has its own station. A 600 mm narrow gauge line runs to Donk on the former line to Bruges; this was supplemented by the standard gauge line in 1989.

The Musée Hergé, or Hergé Museum, is a museum in Belgium dedicated to the life and work of the Belgian cartoonist Georges Remi , who wrote under the pen name Hergé, creator of the series of comic albums, The Adventures of Tintin. The museum is located in the town of Louvain-la-Neuve in Wallonia to the south of Brussels at the address, Rue Labrador 26, Tintin's first home in the books. It was designed by the French architect Christian de Portzamparc, with interiors designed by cartoonist Joost Swarte. The first stone was laid May 2007 during the centenary of Hergé's birth and it opened in June 2009. It consists of three floors with a total of nine exhibition rooms, and a café, museum shop and mini cinema.

All Aboard For The Belgian Steam Gala 2018 At Mariembourg and Treignes Part 1

The date is Saturday 22nd September 2018 and we were invited by some Belgian friends to stay with them and go to the annual Festival Vapeur/Stoomfestival. ( everything is in dual text Walloonish French and Flemish Dutch). So after a sorrowful day visiting the Somme War Grave sites in nearby France the day before, we had a day of escapism in the Ardennes.
We start Part 1 at Mariembourg station which is the 3 Valleys junction. It has an engine shed in working order which houses some on- going projects. The preserved line travels roughly east for 10 miles to Treignes where there is a vast Museum containing many locos both steam and electric/diesel. In this film we see 0-6-0T AD05, 0-6-0T Tkh 5387 ( a bit like a USA T) and the wonderful Polish 2-8-2T Tkt 48 87 - painted in the wonderfully named shade of Fantasy Blue! You may notice the lack of orange Hi Viz , steel spikes, barbed wire, H & S policy documents floating around - because the Belgians kind of like being laid - back, almost Hygge . I include a brief shot of the fabulous Green Pacific in the Museum - there are some YT films of this loco in action in the 90's but it was crippled by leakages and poor steaming so its's in the museum. Also the derelict Giesl - ejector chimneyed Kriegslok in the siding .The active locos have great individual sounds and very loud whistles.ENJOY! Vive le vapeur ! Filmed on my new Panasonic HC VXF1 - not a bad internal 5.1 mic . Sorry Canon, blown you out.....

Bruges Busses - riding around town

A small network of buses operated by De Lijn (070 22 02 00; delijn.be in Flemish) covers destinations in and around Bruges. Most depart from De Lijn's information office on the square in front of the train station, and many stop at central locations such as 't Zand, Markt, Wollestraat and Biekorf on Kuipersstraat.

From the train station, buses 1, 3, 4, 11, 13, 14 and 16 head for the centre -- take any bus marked 'Centrum'.

A single ticket bought at De Lijn's information office costs €1.20 (or €1.50 on the bus), a dagpas (day ticket) is €5 (or €6 on the bus) and a 10-journey lijnkaart (network card) is €8 (€10 on the bus). A tweerittenkaart (two rides) costs €2 and can be used either for one journey by two people, or for two rides by one person. Buses run from 5.30am until about 11pm. On Friday and Saturday, limited night-bus services run from the centre to the suburbs (and to Damme) until 2am.

Steam in Belgium: Dendermonde - Puurs

A little trip along the railways from Puurs to Baasrode-Noord. Whilst the line continues to Dendermonde, it is only used for access as there is no connection between the preserved railway line and the SNCB at Puurs. This was filmed on the 7 July 2012 during the Steam Festival weekend.
