Looking for Free Camping | Low Country, South Carolina
After leaving Hunting Island we decide to continue our inadvertent new mission, FIND FREE CAMPING near the coast!! We were amazed that it cost so much to stay in the State Park on Edisto Island. I understand charging a premium for the big rigs to come hook into the little mini city but for someone to primitive or tent camp!! We decided to go to Francis Marion National Forest. After a quick search we were able to find a suitable camp for zero dollars!! Francis Marion National Forest is definitely on the list for exploring.
Free Camping at Santee Coastal Reserve in South Carolina

We live and travel full-time in our RV. In 2018 we spent a total of $48 in camping fees. So boondocking (aka: dry camping) is what we do best! In a big rig sometimes that can get challenging but we don't let it stop us. We love to share our boondocking locations with anyone interested.
When the National Forest we were hoping to stay at for a few days was closed due to the government shut down, we scrambled to find our plan B. Our plan B was awesome! Probably better than our Plan A! Santee Coastal Reserve in McClellanville, SC was fantastic! We went on a short hike, explored the little, unique town and saw our first alligator in the wild.
We just sincerely would like to thank each and every person who watches, subscribes and supports us with the amazing, encouraging comments. We do this for you! Sumter National Forest And Lick Fork Lake Camping
The Sumter National Forest consists of three ranger districts (Enoree, Long Cane and Andrew Pickens) that comprise nearly 371,000 acres. It is unlike many forests in that its three ranger districts share no contiguous boundaries.
In the piedmont, the Enoree Ranger District has gained national recognition for outstanding work in natural resource management on the Indian Creek Wildlife Habitat Restoration Initiative. The Long Cane Ranger District is home to the Forks Area Trail System, a nationally-known mountain biking trail network. Both districts offer outstanding hiking, boating, hunting and equestrian opportunities.
The Andrew Pickens Ranger District is located in the mountainous western edge of the state, with elevations ranging from 800 to 3,400 feet. Certainly one of its crown jewels is the wild and scenic Chattooga River, a popular whitewater and angling destination. The Ellicott Rock Wilderness offers opportunities for solitude and primitive camping. The Andrew Pickens District has numerous waterfalls and hiking trails to satisfy every challenge level.
