Dakota - United States
Dakota County is the third most populous county in the U.S. state of Minnesota. As of the 2010 census, the population was 398,552. The county seat is Hastings. Dakota County is named after the Dakota Sioux tribal bands who settled in the area. The name is recorded as Dahkotah in the United States Census records until 1851.
Dakota County is included in the Minneapolis-St. Paul-Bloomington, MN-WI Metropolitan Statistical Area, the sixteenth largest metropolitan area in the United States with about 3.3 million residents. The county is bordered by the Minnesota and Mississippi Rivers on the north, and the state of Wisconsin on the east.
The county was the site of historical events at Mendota that defined the state's future, including providing materials for the construction of Fort Snelling across the river and the signing of the Treaty of Traverse des Sioux which ceded land from the native Dakota nation for the Minnesota Territory. The county's history was initially tied to the confluence of the Mississippi and Minnesota Rivers, both strategically important for United States expansion and as the convergence of the Dakota and Ojibwe nations who regarded the site as sacred. Influence shifted westward during the post-World War II settlement boom when Interstate 35 connected the western half of the county to Minneapolis and Saint Paul and bedroom communities grew. Most work outside the county but like many metro counties, Dakota continues to absorb industry and jobs from the core cities.

Minnesota North Woods Fall Color
Our trip during the week of Sep 19-26 to Two Harbors and trips to Ely and the location of the old Deer Trail Lodge site on Ojibway Lake, Lutsen with a gondola ride to Eagle Ridge where the most briliant color was found, a walk around the high trail at Gooseberry Park, and a walk at Two Harbors light house. High wind caused good wave action on Lake Superior at Gooseberry State Park.

Havasu Creek in the Grand Canyon - Home of the Havasupai
WESTERN RIVER EXPEDITIONS
Day five [of Western's Grand Canyon 6 day expedition] you’re going to stop at Havasu. And even day three, day four, you know, some of those earlier days, they’re almost setting you up to stop at Havasu. It’s the highlight of the trip for most people.
Havasu consists of waterfalls and pools, and waterfalls and pools, and waterfalls and pools for miles and miles and miles. It’s a great place to, sort of, maybe do your own thing and leave the group for a while, and go find a - your own private nook for swimming, or sunbathing, or, or just hanging out.
Havasu is a gorgeous canyon. Blue green water, uh, flowing on down over big boulders, made white by the minerals in the water. That’s Havasu.
The water does something you wouldn’t expect when you’re in the desert. It’s beautiful.
I was in this canyon as a seven year old, with my family. As a seven year old, you remember the, the hugeness of the uh, the size of those rapids. You also remember these magical places, and the blue water of Havasu Canyon.
Earlier today we stopped at Havasu. Got to hike up the, the canyon a little bit, and my wife Terry was bold enough to jump into the water.
My favorite thing was Havasupai. The water was so blue. It was warm, and it rushed over the rock. It’s just really spectacular. Everything - the serenity - it was just gorgeous.
I’d always heard about Havasupai, and had never been there. Most of the people that I know that have been there, have come down from the top, so they - they’re at a different, um, spot than we were at. But it was so beautiful. If, if you told someone that the color of the water was the color it really is, they would never believe you. And when they look at the photos, they’re going to think they were photoshopped. And it was just refreshing to get in and swim and hike.
That blue water is something that is just unbelievable to me. It’s the color I’ve never seen in nature anywhere else.
Havasu, and so much of the other offerings of the canyon, has really helped me to appreciate nature, and to really respect what grandeur and what amazing experiences lie beyond the… the four walls of work.
We took dozens of pictures, and they'll never do it justice.
The cameras can take pictures, but it’s difficult to capture the grandeur of where you are. Yeah, this has been an absolutely fantastic, uh, adventure. To witness all the scenery, and the magnificence of it, it’s overwhelming. Have I found peace down here? Sure. It’s just been nice to look at the rocks and listen to the river as we head on back. It’s been a great experience.
You can see the Grand Canyon from a lookout point on the north and south rims, but until you’ve floated down the center of it, you really haven’t seen the Grand Canyon. And I don't know of a better way to see this, this creation than floating through the middle of it.
Cruise Line Updates Regarding Seattle Jamaica Virgin Voyages Viking Cruises San Juan and Pickle Ball
Cruise Line Updates Regarding Seattle Jamaica Virgin Voyages Viking Cruises San Juan and Pickle Ball The Alaska Cruise season is about to begin and Seattle is ready to recieve a record number of cruisers. Last year over 1 million passengers and their luggage came through town and brought lots of cash to spend in the area. Hotels, airports, rental car agencies, restaurants and all those
Starbucks locations welcomed the tourists with open arms. The new Norwegian Bliss will make Seattle it's home for the summer season and 4000 passengers a week will climb onboard this new ship and enjoy all of it's new features. Jamaica has just set a new record for tourist visits, but the country remains under a state of emergency. Cruise passengers can only visit private isolated ports with armed security guards present as the large cities and the countryside is too unstable for visitors. Virgin Voyages meanwhile has had to stop accepting $500 cruise deposits for it's first ship out of Miami in 2020 due to demand. The cruise line will focus all of it's energies towards a younger aged crowd but not allow anyone under 18 to board. The demographic seems to be 25 to 50. Lots of activities are planned for each cruise out of Miami to the Caribbean. Viking Cruises has a sale on right now for those passengers who enjoy a quiete cruise. You can get free airfare to the ship from all major airports in the US plus a few from Canada if you reserve an 8 day cruise in the caribbean for Nov 2018. These cruises depart from San Juan Puerto Rico and that might explain why there is a deal offered for these cruises. San Juan is still in a fragile state from the Hurricanes last fall and flights in and out are dicey. Attention all Pickle Ball Players! Holland America, Princess, and Regent Cruises have installed Pickle Ball courts onnboard their ships and within 2 years almost all cruise lines will have pickle ball onboard. It is becoming a very popular sport among the 50 and older crowd.
