Manado Food at Ikan Tude Bakar Restaurant in Jakarta
Ikan Tude Bakar is a restaurant in Jakarta that specializes in food from Manado, which is in the northern part of the island of Sulawesi. Theresia preferred not to be in the video, but you can check out her blog here:
Theresia on YouTube:
Along with Tere, we went to Restoran Ikan Tude Bakar in Jakarta to have a meal of Manado food. Indonesian Manado food is know for being spicy and full of flavor, and after trying it for the first time, it’s exactly my kind of food. We ordered a bunch of different dishes including cakalang rabe, dry fish with chili, goropa woku, a fish curry with lots of turmeric and chilies, bubur Manado, a type of Manado style rice congee porridge, ayam rica rica, chicken in a thick spice filled and herb sauce, and tude bakar, grilled mackerel. All the dishes were incredibly delicious, but the dish I probably liked the most was the goropa woku, which included pieces of grouper in a sauce that was absolutely packed with turmeric, chilies, onions, and lemon basil. It was a truly outstanding dish. After eating at Ikan Tude Bakar, I’m a huge fan of Indonesian Manado food.
After we finished with lunch we then took a dive over to a legendary ice cream shop called Ragusa Es Italia, located very close to the National Monument. The shop was very old and classic. Outside the ice cream store there were also a few street food carts, and so along with having some ice cream, we also had a plate of asinan Betawi.
Big thank you to Tere for bringing us around Jakarta today!

Additional information from Wikipedia
Sulawesi, formerly known as Celebes is an island in Indonesia. One of the four Greater Sunda Islands, and the world's eleventh-largest island, it is situated between Borneo and the Maluku Islands. Within Indonesia, only Sumatra, Borneo and Papua are larger in territory, and only Java and Sumatra have larger populations.
Four peninsulas comprise Sulawesi: the northern Minahasa Peninsula; the East Peninsula; the South Peninsula; and the South-east Peninsula. Three gulfs separate these peninsulas: the Gulf of Tomini between northern Minahasa peninsula and East Peninsula; the Tolo Gulf between East and Southeast Peninsula; and the Bone Gulf between the South and Southeast Peninsula. The Strait of Makassar runs along the western side of the island and separates the island from Borneo.
The name Sulawesi possibly comes from the words sula (island) and besi (iron) and may refer to the historical export of iron from the rich Lake Matano iron deposits.[1] The term sula is also means tines, horn or spikes, derived from Sanskrit, as trishula refer to trident. Thus sulawesi means iron spikes, which suggested that the island was also a producer of iron edged weapons. The name came into common use in English following Indonesian independence.
The name Celebes was originally given to the island by Portuguese explorers. It was Portuguese rendering of native name Sulawesi.

Scuba Diving in Lembeh Strait | Sulawesi, Indonesia | 2019
On the far northeast tip of Indonesia’s Sulawesi island, you’ll find Lembeh, a small island separated from the mainland by the Lembeh Strait.
Although the island itself doesn’t have too much to see, the real attractions lie just underneath the surface in the Lembeh Strait. Lembeh is one of Indonesia’s top dive sites, but people might be surprised to find there are few coral reefs or pelagic sea life here. Instead, divers from all over the world journey to Lembeh to discover wild, minuscule creatures dwelling on the ocean floor.
