Part 2: Mitake
Mount Mitake (御岳山) is a mountain in the Chichibu Tama Kai National Park near Tokyo, Japan. It stands 929 m (3,048 ft) tall.
It is one of the many highlights of the Chichibu Tama Kai National Park, which covers more than 1,250 km2 (483 sq mi) of forested mountains, hills, gorges and some rural towns in the prefectures of Yamanashi, Saitama, Nagano and Tokyo.
Mitake is a popular destination for rock climbers. The rock climbing (bouldering) in Mitake is centered on the riverbed of Tama River
Some of Japan's famous boulder problems can be found in the Mitake area. On boulders such as Ninja Rock and Deadend
With boulders between a few feet till 20 feet tall.[3] The boulders are graded according to the Japanese Dankyu grading system.[4] With problems ranging between Fb3 and Fb8B.
Mitake is easily accessed by train from Tokyo. Take the Ome line from Tachikawa station to Mitake Station (Tokyo)
Spiffy places to see in Japan: Kamakura
Kamakura is a prefecture just south of Tokyo on the coast. Its a very historic place with many interesting things to see! In this vid, I take you to Hachimangu where we witnessed a live Japanese traditional wedding. Then to Daibutsu, the great buddha via our friendly tour guide Junko. Hope you enjoy! I know the vid is long but trust me it has some great information in it!
If you have any questions about getting around Kamakura of how to get there feel free to drop me a line. I would be happy to assist you!
JAPAN: TOKYO TRIP AND ITINERARY PART 2
Our Tokyo trip continued!
Day 3:
-We still didn't get over our jet lag. So we woke up around 4am. Steve took a walk around, and got McDonald's- Japanese style! And also the nightlife is still bright and bustling- it never stops! Then around 7 am we went to get sushi for breakfast at Sushi Gai- just a block from our airbnb.
-We then make our way to Harajuku. Takeshita street is full of teenagers as this area has lots of cute merchandise and clothing. It is also famous for its Japanese creepes!
-After walking around, we went to Meiji shrine which is about a 10 mins walk from Harajuku. The shrine has a large ground, and very crowded as people pray for the New Years. The Shinto is the biggest religion in Japan. We were fascinated as we learned a lot about Emperor Meiji and the Japanese history at the Samurai Museum the previous day. We also visited the museum here.
-After visiting the shrine, we went to look for lunch. Steve got pizza, and I got ramen. We stumbled upon this ramen place in an alley where everything was in Japanese, and we didn't understand a thing. But it was full of locals. So we figured that it must be good, and it was! Then the jetlag hit us again, so we went back to our airbnb in Shinjuku, watched some Japanese tv shows- which is an experience all its own, and had an early night.
Day 4:
Finally we woke up at decent time around 7am. Went to rainforest cafe for breakfast- mostly western food. Then walked to Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden. It was huge! It has a traditional Japanese garden, tea houses, and a greenhouse.
- After the garden, we walked to Shibuya. It took about an hour to get there. We had lunch at Uobei conveyer belt sushi. It was a fun experience! Although Steve only had the french fries and fried chicken lol- which was actually pretty good. We then just walked around Shibuya. Nice busy area but I still prefer Shinjuku.
-We then went back to Shinjuku around 4pm, and took a rest before we meet our friend Megumi for dinner at Omoide Yokocho. So sorry I didn't have this part recorded as I did not bring my camera. Definitely regreted it as it turned out to me my favourite part of Tokyo! I could immersed myself in the culture, and lots of locals come here for dinner and drinks after work. This area has small alleyways with rows of small bars and eatery - famous for its yakitori. It is similar to the Golden Gai with more food selection! We then went to the Golden Gai, back at Kenzo's bar, and had some more fun with our friends from Japan, America, Australia, and a couple other Canadians.
Next stop: Hakone
