Normandy/Beautiful Brittany Adventure www.ArtisticGourmetAdventures.com
Brittany spans the farthest northwestern point of France. From rugged coastlines to medieval towns, Brittany is enchanting. We will concentrate on the eastern most area, once the “riviera of the north”, we will see beautiful beaches and harbors filled with sailboats and golden sands. And the amazing medieval towns Dinard/Dinan/St. Malo/Mont St Michel and more. Early in the morning on June 6, 1944, about 156,000 Allied soldiers stormed a handful of beaches along the coast of Normandy, France. Although choppy seas and heavy German resistance prevented them from fully meeting their objectives that day, they were able to gain a crucial foothold. By late August, Paris had been liberated, and Germany’s surrender came not long afterward. On this Adventure we will experience the two American landing points that, along with British and Canadian forces, kicked off the Allied invasion of Western Europe during World War II.

Berkhamsted Castle [The History Roadshow] Episode 3
Berkhamsted Castle [The History Roadshow] Episode 3
Join us on our History Roadshow. A new series of short films bringing you the sights and sounds of historical places in England's Heritage.
In this show we visit Berkhamsted Castle, Hertfordshire.
Berkhamsted Castle is a Norman motte-and-bailey castle in Hertfordshire. Now in ruins, It was once a mighty structure which was originally built to control the route between London and the midlands at the time of the Norman conquest of England
Originally the castle would have been a wooden construction, but over the centuries this would have been upgraded to stone.
Robert Mortain who was half brother to William the Conqueror was probably responsible for the construction in 1066, as he later became the owner. The grounds were surrounded by protective earthworks and a deer park, a place for royalty to enjoy the hunt.
Political tensions were on the rise in England in the 13th century and a potential conflict between King John and an alliance of rebel barons opposed to his rule began to look likely. Prince Louis of France eventually forced a surrender of the garrison. Within a year though, forces loyal to Henry III retook the castle.
There is almost a thousand years of history on this site, from its humble beginnings back in 1066 and through its expansion over the following years to be seen as one of the great fortresses in Britain. Although it has been through its fair share of troubles and not only in battle but also in ownership this ancient monument deserves its place as one of the most outstanding motte and bailey castles in England to this day. Thanks to English Heritage you can now re-enact your own adventure at Berkhamsted Castle.
