Laos in Seconds - Vacation in Laos: Day 11 - Vientiane to Pakse / Don Det / 4,000 Islands
Holiday in Laos, Day 11: We catch an early morning flight on Lao Airlines out of Laos's capital, Vientiane and fly an hour and a half south to Pakse. From there, we hop on a songthaew -- a cross between a public bus, a tuktuk, and a cattle car, for a bumpy, swervy, three-hour drive to Nakasong. It's a cramped ride, but a nice lady shares her coconut sticky rice with us.
In Nakasong, we hop in a rickety, wooden boat that buzzes us 15 minutes to Don Det in the 4,000 Islands area.

Don Det , is an island in the middle of the Mekong River in Si Phan Don (4000 Islands) in Laos.
Don Det used to be a really off the beaten track place only five to ten years ago. However, since the changes to the tubing scene in Vang Vieng in 2012 which saw the majority of bars closed down, the young party crowd has moved here. Don Det has many cheap guesthouses and bars catering to the lower budget tourist and is now very much on the backpacker trail. Don Det recently acquired 24 hour electrical supply which will most likely lead to increasingly more services and development.
Don Det is somewhat of a mecca for backpackers and is comparable with the Vang Vieng prior to the changes made to improve its safety record. Tourists, mostly in their 20s and 30s, come to this island to party, drink, and relax. Some stay a day or two, some for weeks and a few have decided to stay for good.

A team of European cavers explores caves in cooperation with European Union Microprojects and the Provincial Tourism Office for the use of ecotourism. The 15 min documentary shows the search for caves and its survey together with the Lao people of the nearby villages.

Pakse - its time for bike maintenance | Singapore to Germany motorcycle trip | Laos
We made to to Pakse. Nice little town surrounded by water and mountains. We decided to stay at the Pakse hotel where the General Manager turned out to be a biker himself. And you know how it goes, time to look whats under the hood. Had to take the gas tank of in order to take a look at the air filter. When we got off the boat from Don Det and started riding the engine light went on which of course bothered the hell out of us. After riding for about 30-40 km the light went off, but the worry still stayed with us, so we decided to check whatever we can, hence taking the gas tank off.

泊まったホテルはシルバーリバーホテル(Silver River Hotel)。場所も便利で料金のわりに設備は充実。おすすめです。
最後に、拙い動画にお付き合い頂きありがとうございました。気づけば結局全15回、約3時間の長編になってしまいました。自分で改めて見直して感じるのは「やっぱり旅は楽しい！」ということに尽きます。旅のスタイルは人それぞれだと思いますが、多少なりともその楽しさが伝われば幸いです。
時に冗長、また時には肝心な部分が抜け落ちていたりという感じで今回は撮影・編集共にあまりうまくできませんでした。ただ、機材も揃ったことですし次回の旅でも動画を撮ろうと考えています。またその時にぜひお会いしましょう！
