MVUU LODGE & LIWONDE NATIONAL PARK, MALAWI
I spent two nights at Mvuu Wilderness Lodge in Liwonde National Park, Malawi, in May 2016. There are sooooo many elephants and hippos on the Shire River, so wildlife spotting on safari was pretty easy! This video showcases my experience of Mvuu Lodge - fantastic comfortable accommodation, and well worth a trip! :)

El Camino Primitivo, Lugo - San Román, 24 marzo 2010.wmv
Met José from Madrid again at Lugo albergue (nobody slept well, low lights on all night) and, with no bfast, no bar open for coffee, we all set off in the rain, leaving Lugo crossing the river Miña. Up a hill after walking along the riverside it was so wet José put his cucaracha plastic poncho on (shown) and we stood by a wall to have some packet croissants we stuffed with sticks of chocolate. Cheering and energy-giving! José pressed on ahead but as today we were only due to walk about 20 kms, we weren´t in a hurry. Pity about the rain but Galicia has an overdose of it. There were lots of little water fountains along the way and chapels, fields, mimosa and eucalyptus trees... I even saw a stork flying overhead. Came across a signpost Hospital and leaned on it (shown), thinking I should have been there yesterday when done in! Midmorning, near Sta Eulalia´s Chapel, we found a good large country bar where we had a freshly-cooked french omelette served in thick toasted slices of good bread. A coffee at last too!
Better for fuelling up, I enjoyed the walk. There were many birds singing in the rain when it eased, including thrushes and cuckoos in dripping trees and bushes. Primroses and violets, now we´re lower down. Before San Román it became really muddy!
The San Román albergue must be a star along the Primitive Route. Cosy, wooden-beamed ceiling, stone walls AND a window seat overlooking the grassy tree slope outside, cumfy bunk beds and radiators, what more could you want in March. It had a good working kitchen with utensils, hot water, very good showers and washing clothes area. The only problem is that it´s small and after May when lots of pilgrims come, specially during summer, they need something bigger. Apparently this is only a provisional albergue. Jorge, the hospitalero, a very helpful person, said, as we had such bad weather, we go to Palas de Rey joining the main French Route (Camino Francés) there the following day, closer than going to Melide some 30kms away as we had planned.
After settling in at San Roman - José was there before us again! - we, including Jorge, all went to a nearby bar/shop for a coffee... locals very friendly. The sky cleared for a while as night set in and, back at the albergue, sat outside and listened to owls in the old woods before tucking up warm in bed for a good night´s sleep, the wind getting up the while...
