Archeological digs on the Ophel have occurred on and off since the early 20th century. It wasn't till January 2010 that the most spectacular discovery was made. Under the direction of Dr. Eilat Mazar, an esteemed archeologist who has a rich history of digging on the Ophel, the excavation was carried out with assistance from the Israel Antiquities Authority, the Israel Nature and Parks Authority, the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and volunteer students from Herbert W. Armstrong College in Edmond, Oklahoma. On June 21, after months of preparing the Ophel Wall site and its artifacts for tourists, Dr. Mazar, together with Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat, announced that it was officially open to the public.
Beginning today, visitors will actually be able to walk through First Temple remains, touch the stones, enjoy and study about yet another period of the archeology of the city of Jerusalem, announced Jacob Fisch, executive director of the Friends of the Israel Antiquities Authority. The opening of the Ophel site was a big deal for Jerusalem. Though the city is packed with historic sites and incredible artifacts, tourists haven't been able to explore the history of the First Temple period—until now.
The wall has been dated to the 10th century B.C., and all evidence indicates that it was built by King Solomon and is the one mentioned in 1 Kings 3:1. This scripture speaks of Solomon building his own palace, and the house of the Lord, and the wall of Jerusalem round about. It's pretty incredible, when you think about it—being able to reach out and touch a wall that King Solomon himself strolled by daily three millenniums ago!
Importantly, this gigantic wall not only confirms the presence of Solomon in Jerusalem, it also confirms the biblical narrative of ancient Israel as a large and advanced kingdom. The city wall that has been uncovered testifies to a ruling presence, Mazar told theTrumpet soon after its discovery in 2010. Its strength and form of construction indicate a high level of engineering.
Speaking at the official unveiling ceremony, Dr. Mazar stated again that the reality was that a very highly skilled fortification and sophisticated fortification was built by King Solomon. The wall contains the largest hewn stones from the First Temple period ever found in Israel. Only a thousand years later, with the construction undertaken by Herod the Great, did greater-size building blocks appear in Jerusalem.
Bible critics take pleasure in ridiculing Scripture's account of King David and King Solomon. They believe these men were mere chieftains of an obscure, primitive tribe of sheepherders tucked away in the hills of Judea. These critics need to visit Jerusalem and stand beneath Solomon's towering edifice. As they gaze at its impressive size and sophisticated engineering, they ought to realize that such a wall couldn't have been patched together by a few hillbilly sheepherders.
Chol Hamoed: Passover Vacation in Village Israel
For an afikoman prize we gave our granddaughters a donkey ride. Moshav Zanoah down the road from our apartment in Beit Shemesh had animals to pet, donkeys to ride and an inflatable castle to jump in. The whole neighborhood turned out for 10 shekels a kid.
Later we went to Park Canada near modiin for a picnic. In Israel many families take vacation during chol hamoed and it really felt like a national festival. All the picnic tables in the shade were taken, so we spread a blanket under some trees.
Next stop was the new central park in Modiin. This was the first time the new artificial lake was full and paddleboats were operating so the park was full of young secular israel families from Modiin and large Charedi families from nearby Kiryat Sefer and Modiin Ilit.
We had to pass on the paddleboats, but the girls had a great time watching the kites flying. After a quick mincha we headed back to Ramat Beit Shemesh where we had a BBQ with friends and family.

My name is Zahi Shaked
In 2000 I became a registered liscenced tourist guide.
My dedication in life is to pass on the ancient history of the Holy Land.
Following upon many years of travel around the world, which was highlighted by a very exciting emotional and soul-searching meeting with the Dalai Lama, I realized that I had a mission. To pass on the the history of the Holy Land, its religions, and in particular, the birth and development of Christianity.
In order to fulfill this calling in the best way possible, I studied in depth, visited, and personally experienced each and every important site of the ancient Christians. I studied for and received my first bachelors degree in the ancient history of the Holy Land, and am presently completing my studies for my second degree.(Masters)
Parralel to my studies, and in order to earn a living, I was employed for many years in advertising. What I learned there was how to attract the publics attention, generate and, increase interest, and assimilate information. All this I use as tools to describe, explain and deepen the interest in the sites that we visit. From my experience, I have learned that in this way, the Holy Land becomes more than just history, and that the large stones that we see scattered about in dissaray, join together one by one until they become - a Byzantine Church. This also happens when I lead a group of Pilgrims in the Steps of Jesus. We climb to the peak of Mount Precipice, glide over the land to the Sea of Galilee, land on the water and see the miracle which enfolds before us. This is a many faceted experience. Not only history which you will remember and cherish, but an experience which I hope will be inplanted in your hearts and minds, and will accompany you all the days of your life.

Dr. Kedar is specializing in Islamic groups, the politics of Arab countries, the Arab media and Israeli Arabs and is a lecturer in Arabic Literature at Bar-Ilan U.

From the beginning of Islam in year 610 CE it considered itself the religion of truth while Judaism and Christianity were considered religions of falsehood. This is taught in Muslim schools throughout the world (madrasa's).
The Koran has both violent, radical and extremist verses as well as moderate ones.
There is only one Islam but there are different Muslims. Both moderate and radical Muslims read the same Koran, Hadith (oral traditions) and Sirah of Muhammad (the life of Muhammad) but use different parts of it.
Radical Muslims emulate the first century of Islam when they were beheading people, burning people, selling daughters of Infidels into slavery and breaking and destroying remnants of other religions which are viewed as Infidel religions. So they are actually walking exactly in the footsteps of 7th century Islam and can form radical groups such as ISIS, Al-Qaeda etc.
Later Islam became more moderate because of various reasons. So the radicals view what later came into Islam as some kind of deviation from Islam.
They go to the origin, to the fundamental ideas and ways of conduct of early Islam. To how Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him and his immediate followers behaved . And this is why they call themselves The Caliphate, just like those Caliphs which replaced Muhammad right after his death.
They base their deeds on the sources of Islam. So coming to say that they are detached from Islam or deviation of Islam is incorrect. This is what they read in their own holy books.
In the Middle East your religion is the most important characteristic which defines you, unlike in the West.
If you're a Muslim, you're legitimate. If you're not, go away! Vanish! Especially if you're a Jew!
This is also a clash inside Islam. 98% of victims are Muslim. The rift between Shia and Sunna: they are fighting each other for 14 centuries on the succession of Muhammad. This struggle between them started when Muhammad closed his eyes forever in the year of 632 CE. And they kill each other in mass until this very day.
The Shia are considered by the Sunna to be a real deviation of Islam. They went out of Islam and deserve any punishment which will be inflicted upon them by the Islamic State.
Then come the others: the Infidels: the Jews, the Christians, Buddhists, and the Yazidis whose daughters are being
sold and their men are being slaughtered. And the Alawis in Syria.
Muslims can give peace to Infidels, but only temporarily peace. Only as long as the Infields are too powerful to be defeated.
This is based on the precedent of prophet Muhammad who made temporay peace with the infidels of Mecca in the year of 628 CE, whisi is known as a Hudaibiyah peace. That peace agreement was signed for ten years. After two years however when the Meccans fell asleep at the guard, he attacked in the year 630, TWO years into the 10 year agreement, violating it.
Muslims learn from this precedent two things. The first thing is that when you as a Muslim cannot defeat the Infidel,
you can give him peace for a while, just like Muhammad did.
Second thing is: when Allah with mercy gives you the opportunity and the ability to get rid of the Infidel, you DO it! Even during the temporary peace. Why? This is how Prophet Muhammad did in Mecca.
So yes we have now temporary peace with Egypt. That peace which we signed with Egypt in 1979 was justified by El Azhar, the Supreme Islamic institution in Cairo as a kind of Hudaibiyah peace. Al Azhar gave Saadat a verdict (fatwah) for the peace with Israel. Only because the Infidels are strong.
The second time that we heard about Hudaibiyah peace was from Arafat. When he signed with us the Oslo agreements in 1993 he justified it as another version of Hudaibiyah peace. So definitely they can give us a temporary peace only as long as we are invincible.
And you know what? I'll buy it! But we need to make sure that Israel is invincible forever! So the temporary peace will be forever. And this is the problem with BDS and many others in the West. By criticizing and weakening Israel they are actually decreasing the chance for peace in the Middle East.

In India, there are up to 1.2 million transgender people, also known as hijras. Earlier this year, the country's first transgender mayor was elected and less than 12 months ago the Supreme Court granted legal recognition to the community as a third gender.
To an outsider, it might be assumed that these hijras - described as 'men minus maleness' - are able to lead peaceful lives without fear of discrimination, but this could not be further from the truth for some.
Hijras live together in houses where a chief or godmother acts as leader. They refer to each other as mothers, sisters, aunts, grandmothers and great-grandmothers. They have maintained a traditional Indian style, in contrast to many middle and upper class women who have cut their hair and wear western clothing.
Many are encouraged to become prostitutes due to the financial benefits as well as beg in return for blessings.

With God’s help, all of the Jewish people will be living in unity in Israel. But until all of our brothers and sisters make Aliyah or come to visit, we decided to recreate the Israel experience on camera, to give everyone a virtual tour of what it’s like living in the holy land on a normal day. Ride around with us on public transportation through the city, or take a bus with us to holy graves and historic sites. Follow us as we walk around the streets and alleys of ancient Jerusalem, interview tourists visiting for holidays, and talk to the locals about the history. There’s no doubt that Passover, Sukkot, Chanuka (Hanukkah) and Purim here are an experience that everyone should have, and we’re going to capture the atmosphere all on video, and have tourists explain what they most spiritually connect to here in Jerusalem. We’re going to be walking around the old city of Jerusalem, visiting Tel-Aviv, Haifa, Netanya, Be’er Sheba, Tazfat ( Safed) , Meron, Tveria (Tiberias), Ashdod, Eilat, and all the other favorite tourist locations. We’ll be taking hikes in the Golan, backpacking around the Negev, and swimming in the Dead Sea. Israel makes the Torah (Bible – Old Testament) feel so real and alive, and we’re going to capture a taste of what life here feels like for a normal citizen. All the Israeli news and TV channels like Arutz Sheva, Jerusalem Post, Haaretz, VICE news, CNN, BBC and The New York Times, only report the occasional extreme terrorism and terrorist attacks, boring international politics, Orthodox VS Secular conflicts, and IDF military operations. We’re making a reality news channel to show you what it’s like to live in Jerusalem, to go shopping in the Jerusalem market, and to taste all the local traditional foods at the restaurants and cafes. Falafel and shawarma anyone? Israel has some of the most talented street performers in the world, and we’ll show you the side of Israel Got Talent that is too good for the television series as we check out the street entertainers in the merkaz, watching Middle Eastern entertainment at its finest. And most importantly, for those experienced travelers who are more interested in old fashioned tourism, we’ll be going to all the historic sites and archaeological digs, like the Kotel (Western Wall, Wailing Wall) by the Temple Mount, The City of David, Ancient Synagogues all over Israel, Ancient Graveyards, the Mediterranean coast, and Lake Kinneret (Sea of Galilee), as well as all the mystical Kabbalistic locations. And of course, the Emunah Channel team is going to be following Rav Dror Moshe Cassouto around before and after classes, talking to him about the soul and Hashem, as usual.
