1. Southern Prairie Railway Ogema
Southern Prairie Railway is a tourist railway operated by the Ogema Heritage Railway Association in Ogema, Saskatchewan. Southern Prairie Railway offers train tours that travel from Ogema to Pangman, Saskatchewan and Horizon, Saskatchewan. The tours operate on weekends from May to October. Chartered trips are also available. The centrepiece of their operation is a fully restored 1912 CP Rail train station. The station was moved to Ogema from Simpson, Saskatchewan in 2002, as the original station was removed in 1960s. The feature engine is a 1945 GE 44 tonner diesel locomotive purchased in 2010 from Conway Scenic Railroad in North Conway, New Hampshire. The Big Muddy Badlands are a series of badlands in southern Saskatchewan and northern Montana along Big Muddy Creek. They are found in the Big Muddy Valley, a cleft of erosion and sandstone along Big Muddy Creek. The valley is 55 kilometres long, 3.2 kilometres wide and 160 metres deep. The valley was formed when it was part of an ancient glacial meltwater channel that carried great quantities of water southeastward during the last ice age. In the nineteenth and early twentieth century the Badlands formed the northern end of the Outlaw Trail, a series of trails and stopping areas utilized by outlaws in the American West spanning from Canada to Mexico. Claybank Brick Plant was a brickworks factory for the manufacturing of bricks from clay located with a quarry for clay on site. The Claybank Brick plant has been conserved as a part of Saskatchewan's industrial heritage with its official announcement June 29, 1997 as a National Historic Site of Canada by Minister of Canadian Heritage Sheila Copps. $2 million for the conservation and presentation of the Brick Plant by Claybank was contributed jointly between Federal and Provincial Government funding departments. Claybank Brick Plant used neighboring clay from the Massold Clay Canyons. The Cretaceous period resulted in the Whitemud Formation which is the underlying zone of the Claybank Hills. Hello everyone! Welcome to my new Youtube channel, Canadiana!

I thought I would start off with a video showing my beautiful home Saskatchewan. This was a trip my family took this summer to the badlands. We drove through the southern part of the province, stopping in Rouleau, Ogema, Coronach, and Castle Butte. It was such a great adventure and I highly recommend it to anyone. It was so fun for me to see a new and different geographical side of Saskatchewan that I didn't even know existed.

Touring The Big Muddy Badlands

The Big Muddy Badlands are filled with stunning landscapes and rich history.I recently spent an entire day discovering the best way of exploring it all - joining a Badlands Tour hosted by Coronach Tourism. From a twenty metre wide ceremonial circle to the caves once used by notorious outlaws like Sam Kelly, the tour takes you places typically inaccessible to the public and allows you to explore freely.

The tours begin in the town of Coronach and the onslaught of knowledge begins right away and doesn’t stop. For example, did you know that the town was named after the winning horse in the 1926 Epsom Downs Derby in London, England? You travel between points of interest by vehicle and there’s a nifty radio system that allows all vehicles to hear the tour guide through an FM frequency. If you choose the “long tour” you’ll be spending all day out and about, so be sure to pack and lunch and have a full tank of gas before departing.

Brightest Northern Lights in Saskatchewan

While I was time lapsing these gorgeous Northern Lights last night, they got so bright that I was able to record them without long exposure to show how fast they were moving! My wife was driving and was about 2 hours away, and she was seeing the same thing so we were talking on the phone and enjoying the same light show from 2 different places! You can hear our excitement since this is the first time we've seen them so vibrant with the naked eye. Such is the beauty of this world!
