Exotic Mountaintop Estate. California's San Diego County, USA - Unravel Travel TV
Exotic, mountaintop estate in California's San Diego County will be sold at a live Auction on September 19, 2015 by Platinum Luxury Auctions. Recently offered for $12.5 million, the property will be sold to the highest bidder who meets or exceeds the auction's $5 million reserve price. Listing agent K. Ann Brizolis of Pacific Sotheby's International Realty is the cooperating listing agent for the sale
The mountaintop estate is one of the most unique and intriguing homes in all of San Diego County. Perched atop Paint Mountain on more than 18 acres, the Property offers striking, 360-degree views of Southern California, with vistas stretching all the way to the Pacific Ocean. Sunsets are especially spectacular when viewed from one of the estate’s many terraces, or while soaking in the one-of-a-kind lap pool. The mansion’s unique design was custom-created by its original owner, a wealthy inventor, investor, and physician. Materials and craftsmen were imported from all over the world to produce the sprawling residential structure. In fact, the development of the estate became quite a local attraction, with random visitors constantly driving onto the project site just to capture a peak of the work in progress.
An immense, 288,000-gallon lap pool is perhaps the residence’s most striking feature, as it runs through the property’s central courtyard and out towards its back lawn, where it seems to disappear over the edge of the mountain. It is purported to be one of the longest residential pools in the world. Massive walls of glass, unique water features, and a striking central courtyard with a pool and spa allows for a seamless integration between the estate’s indoor and outdoor living spaces. Many features of the home seem well beyond their time, such as 10-ft by 10ft doors that gently swing open on special, hidden hinges, and oversized, electronically controlled sliding glass doors that open the main level’s hallways to the central courtyard.
The tri-level estate offers more than 23,000 interior sq. ft., with 8 bedrooms, 9 full and 2 half baths. The master suite alone measures 4,300 sq. ft., and opens to a large, rooftop terrace. There is also a separate guesthouse, which adds 2 beds, 2 full baths and approximately 1,200 sq. ft. of living space, an ideal location for on-site staff. (Note: The guesthouse is presently unfinished). Additional features of the mansion include two living rooms, a game/media parlor, formal dining room with glass walls and a revolving floor (designed to allow all dinner guests to enjoy the panoramic views during their meal), a dedicated theatre, fitness center, executive office, and sauna. The commercial-grade kitchen includes a Teppanyaki station, Viking and Wolf appliances, and a separate prep room. There is also a wine cellar and a garage capable of accommodating more than 20 cars.
In addition to it’s incredible pool, the estate’s water features include two, 900-gallon salt-water aquariums, gentle stone “wall waterfalls,” and various koi pools. There is even a custom rock waterslide that slopes down the edge of the mountain, terminating in a small plunge pool. Other outdoor features include a gated entry, circular driveway with porte-cochere, and a private jogging path that encircles the estate.
Elfin Forest is an unincorporated community in the foothills of San Diego County’s Santa Rosa Mountains. It is bordered on the south by Rancho Santa Fe (the Property is in fact located within the Rancho Santa Fe school district). A rural area comprised of large homes and estates on multi-acre parcels, Elfin Forest offers many rolling hills and trails. The area is also home to the Elfin Forest Recreational Reserve, a 784-acre reserve with 11 miles of trails for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding, in addition to many beautiful spots for picnics, or simply taking in the mountain views.

HUGE 130 Ton 4798 horsepower 100 year old Cooper Corliss Steam Engine Operating in Freeport IL
This video is of the Huge 130 Ton 1914 Cooper Corliss Stationary Steam Engine in Freeport, Illinois that originally came out of the Matthiessen Hegeler Zinc Rolling Mill in Lasalle Illinois.
While I shot this video a few years ago and posted it in 2012, we will be celebrating its 100th birthday this year in 2014.
It is owned and operated by the Stephenson County Antique Engine Club in Freeport, Illinois which also has the Silvercreek & Stephenson Railroad (with its annual Halloween Train Of Terror) and the Silver Creek Museum at 2954 S. Walnut Rd. Freeport, Illinois 61032. The engine is located in a building right behind the Museum which is accross the road from the Railroad complex at the corners of Lamm & Walnut Roads just a couple miles South of Freeport and about a mile off of Highway 26
This is the Largest Steam Engine within a 500 Mile Radius of Freeport Illinois, and the Largest Operating Steam Engine in the Entire United States.
.
The 130 Ton engine has a 25 foot 4 inch diameter flywheel that weighs in at 60 Tons with a total rolling mass of 85 Tons with the crankshaft, hub, and flywheel, yet on start up when the valve is opened, it will get up to speed in less than a single revolution. While it does run at a slow RPM, just imagine taking an 85 Ton Semi tractor trailer rig and getting it up to speed in that short of a time. This does it with a single cylinder. That is the awsome power of Steam.
There are a few other videos of this engine on here, but I haven't found any others with it running anywhere near its rated speed of 45 RPM where it puts out a staggering 4798 horse power on 225 psi of steam pressure. The paint color is just a little darker than John Deere Green.
This engine was disassembled by a group of club members, and transported from Lasalle to Freeport, where it was eventually reassembled after aquiring the land to build it on, and then the new building was erected over it. If you look closely, you can see where the steel frame building required a little modification to clear the flywheel rim, as a mistake was made in the measuments and the main beam did not clear the flywheel. Another good size comparison, is the old Wallis OK Tractor that can be seen in the background through the spokes of the flywheel.
The engine can be seen running each time the Railroad and Museum are open including on Memorial Day, Fathers Day, Independance Day, Labor Day, and during the clubs annual Threshing Show aka the Freeport Show which is held just up the road at the Stephenson County Fairgrounds, where I operate the Club's Steam Powered Circular Sawmill.
I'm not posting the individual dates on here, as they change each year with the holidays and most of the open dates being on weekends, but you can find the dates posted on the clubs website at along with other information about the club and its activities.
THE WORLD'S MOST HAUNTED PLACE! | Waverly Hills Sanatorium Paranormal Tour
(Louisville, Kentucky) Producing my first documentary at THE Waverly Hills Sanatorium!.....Don't miss what we're up to next, HIT SUBSCRIBE to keep up! Aerial Views and Ghost Hunting at Waverly Hills Sanatorium, known by many as One of The MOST HAUNTED PLACES ON EARTH. Waverly is known world wide to be FULL of History & Paranormal Activity...
The Waverly Hills Sanatorium is a closed sanatorium located in southwestern Louisville/Jefferson County, Kentucky. It opened in 1910 as a two-story hospital to accommodate 40 to 50 tuberculosis patients. In the early 1900s, Jefferson County was ravaged by an outbreak of tuberculosis (the White Plague) which prompted the construction of a new hospital. The hospital closed in 1961, due to the antibiotic drug streptomycin that lowered the need for such a hospital.
Waverly Hills has been popularized on the television show Ghost Hunters as being one of the most haunted hospitals in the eastern United States. The sanatorium was featured on ABC/FOX Family Channel's Scariest Places On Earth, VH1's Celebrity Paranormal Project, Syfy's Ghost Hunters, Zone Reality's Creepy, the British show Most Haunted, Paranormal Challenge and Ghost Adventures on Travel Channel. Also popularizing Waverly Hills was the film Spooked: The Ghosts of Waverly Hills Sanatorium, released in 2006, which purports to document paranormal sightings at the site
Plans have been developed to convert the sanatorium into a hotel and conference center.
HISTORY:
The land that is today known as Waverly Hill was purchased by Major Thomas H. Hays in 1883 as the Hays' family home. Since the new home was far away from any existing schools, Mr. Hays decided to open a local school for his daughters to attend. He started a one-room schoolhouse on Pages Lane and hired Lizzie Lee Harris as the teacher. Due to Miss Harris' fondness for Walter Scott's Waverley novels, she named the schoolhouse Waverly School. Major Hays liked the peaceful-sounding name, so he named his property Waverley Hill. The Board of Tuberculosis Hospital kept the name when they bought the land and opened the sanatorium. It is not known exactly when the spelling changed to exclude the second e and became Waverly Hills. However the spelling fluctuated between both spellings many times over the years.
EXPLORATION:
One of the legends told of Waverly Hills involves a man in a white coat who has been seen walking in the kitchen and the smell of cooking food that sometimes wafts through the room. During their initial visit, they found the kitchen was a disaster, a ruin of broken windows, fallen plaster, broken tables and chairs and puddles of water and debris that resulted from a leaking roof. The cafeteria had not fared much better. It was also in ruins and the team quickly retreated. Before they could do so though, several of them reported the sounds of footsteps, a door swinging shut and the smell of fresh baked bread in the air. A quick search revealed that no one else was in the building and there was certainly no one cooking anything in the kitchen. They could come up with no logical explanation for what had occurred.
Ghost researchers are always drawn to the fifth floor of the former hospital. The fifth floor consisted of two nurses’ stations, a pantry, a linen room, medicine room and two medium-sized rooms on both sides of the two nurses’ stations. One of these, Room 502, is the subject of many rumors and legends and just about every curiosity-seeker that had broken into Waverly Hills over the years wanted to see it. This is where, according to the stories, people have jumped to their deaths, have seen shapes moving in the windows and have heard disembodied voices that order trespassers to “get out”.
There is a lot of speculation as to what went on in this part of the hospital but what is believed is that mentally insane tuberculosis patients were housed on the fifth floor. This kept them far away from the rest of the patients in the hospital but still in an area where they could benefit from the fresh air and sunshine. This floor is actually centered in the middle of the hospital and the two wards, extending out from the nurses’ station, is glassed in on all sides and opens out onto a patio-type roof. The patients were isolated on either side of the nurses’ stations and they had to go to a half door at each station to get their food and medicine and to use the restroom, which was located adjacent to the station.
