Ostashkovsky District is an administrative and municipal district , one of the thirty-six in Tver Oblast, Russia. It is located in the northwest of the oblast and borders with Demyansky District of Novgorod Oblast in the north, Firovsky District in the northwest, Kuvshinovsky District in the east, Selizharovsky District in the south, Penovsky District in the southwest, and with Maryovsky District of Novgorod Oblast in the west. The area of the district is 3,200 square kilometers . Its administrative center is the town of Ostashkov. Population: 23,761 ; 7,357 ; 8,921 . The population of Ostashkov accounts for 76.1% of the district's total population.

Seliger is a lake in Ostashkovsky District of Tver Oblast and, in the extreme northern part, in Demyansky District of Novgorod Oblast of Russia, in the northwest of the Valdai Hills, a part of the Volga basin. It has the absolute height of 205 metres , the area of 212 square kilometres , and the average depth of 5.8 metres . Lake Seliger is a large system of lakes linked by effluents, has many small islands and is surrounded by forests, including pine woods with many berries and mushrooms. Lake Peno is a lake in Penovsky District of Tver Oblast, Russia. The Volga River flows through the lake in its upper course. The area of the lake is 16.7 square kilometres .Lake Vselug is the third one of four big lakes which make together Upper Volga Reservoir and which constitute the only remaining large natural lake system on the Volga. The other three lakes of the system are Lake Volgo, Lake Vselug, and Lake Sterzh. Lake Peno is located downstream of Lake Vselug and upstream of Lake Volgo.
