Day 14 on our Round The World Trip for Food: Rome, Italy - On our very first day in Rome, we set off early in the morning to see some of the most famous attractions in Rome, including the Colosseum and the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill. After doing some more sightseeing and having lunch, we had an amazing Roman food at a restaurant in Rome called Trattoria Dal Cavalier Gino.
00:37 Breakfast at the hotel - To begin the day of sightseeing in Rome, we had breakfast at the hotel, and did the final planning of the day.
2:12 Colosseum - One of the most important and well recognized attractions in Rome is the Colosseum and we arrived pretty early to get in, and I also had pre-purchased my tickets online to attempt to beat the crowds and not have to waste time waiting in line. It worked well, and as soon as the Colosseum opened, we went through security and got in. It was an amazing sight to see, especially because it was so quiet when we arrived.
3:51 Roman Forum and Palatine Hill - Locate in the same area as the Colosseum is the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill, and so that’s where we went next. Again, seeing the ancient ruins of Rome was truly spectacular.
5:48 Trattoria Luzzi - I wasn’t quite sure where to eat lunch, and located right around these famous attractions in Rome, there are a lot of expensive, and probably not so good restaurants. We decided to go check out a restaurant called Trattoria Luzzi, just down the road from the Colosseum on the opposite side of the road. I ordered Trippa Alla Romana, a Roman tripe dish and also a pasta of Amatriciana. Overall, the food was good, and it was a friendly little restaurant and the location was good. Total price - 21 EUR ($23.47).
10:31 Basilica di San Giovanni in Laterano - After lunch we headed to Basilica di San Giovanni in Laterano, a huge basilica in Rome. Right across the plaza is Scala Sancta, a small chapel with a 28 step staircase where Jesus is believed to have ascended.
13:25 Gelateria Valentino - I don’t know of anyone that goes to Rome without eating some gelato, and right around the Trevi fountain area of Rome, you’ll find a lot of gelato spots. We tried Gelateria Valentino. Gelato - 3 EUR ($3.35)
14:50 Trevi Fountain - Another one of the most iconic attractions in Rome is the Trevi fountain. We didn’t spend too much time there, but it is pretty cool to see in person.
16:25 Amazing Italian Roman food at Trattoria Dal Cavalier Gino Restaurant - For dinner, my wife and I met up with Valentina and Antonio. After walking through the amazing narrow lanes of Rome, we navigated our way to Trattoria Dal Cavalier Gino Restaurant, where they had made a reservation for dinner. The restaurant is exactly what you want in a classic Roman Italian food restaurant, a family style restaurant that offers an abundance of Roman dishes. We first started with some types of Roman pasta including cacio e pepe, and carbonara, all of which were incredible - the best pastas I’ve ever had. Then we moved on the an amazing assortment of main Italian food dishes, including veal, lamb, and so many other amazing dishes. It was an Italian food meal like I’ve never had before. Most of the dishes were Roman food style. Thank you Valentina and Antonio for the amazing dinner!
Day 14 in Rome was an amazing day of visiting some of the most famous attractions in Rome and eating some incredibly delicious Italian food!

Our visit Venice travel guide covers some of the top attractions including a food guide to local Italian food, top sightseeing tourist attractions and the city by day and by night including visiting cathedrals, canals, ruins and islands. We cover activities you won't find in a typical Venice tourism brochure, Venice itinerary or Venice, Italy city tour also known as Venezia Italia.
20 Things to do in Venice, Italy Travel Guide Video Transcript: (VENEZIA ITALIA):
We’re taking you on a whirlwind tour of Venice in winter visiting the famed Floating City. Join us as we show you the best things to see, do and eat in Venice.
The Vaporetto is Venice’s water bus service. The standard ticket is 7.50 Euros and valid for 60 minutes, the 1 day pass is 20 Euros and valid for 24 hours.
The most visited attraction in Venice: Piazza San Marco where there is quite a bit to see and do around the square beginning with St Mark’s Basilica.
St Mark’s Campanile, a tall brick bell tower was once used by approaching ships as a beacon to guide them home where you get great views of the city.
Then you have the Doge’s Palace, which was the residence of the Doge of Venice, the ruler of the former Republic of Venice built in the Venetian Gothic style.
Don't forget the Bridge of SIghs, whose name refers to the sighs of prisoners who would get their last glimpse of Venice as they were led from Doge's Palace to their cells.
Across to the other side of the Grand Canal, you have the Basilica of Saint Mary of Health and the Galleria dell’Accademia in case you’re in the mood for art.
A restaurant we really enjoyed La Zucca - a place where all the dishes are made with pumpkin! The Rialto Market specializes in produce and fresh seafood for self-catering.
Let’s talk about island hopping in Venice:
Founded in the 5th century, Torcello is even older than Venice and was the original settlement in the Venetian Lagoon with lots of walking paths, nature and Byzantine mosaics.
Burano is known for its lace work and brightly coloured homes with plenty of restaurants, cafes and shops to browse.
Mazzorbo island sits next to Burano and is connected by a bridge while being known for its vineyards and orchards.
Murano is renowned for its glass production dating back to 1291 when the glassmakers in Venice were forced to relocate by the Venetian government.
Lido is an 11-kilometre sandbar island that shelters the lagoon from the Adriatic Sea with beaches, lots of seaside homes, and this is also where the Venice Film Festival takes place.
A restaurant we liked in Venice is Osteria Mocenigo specializing in local cuisine. Try the “Sarde in saor” - a typical Venetian dish made with sardines.
While your vaporetto pass is valid ride the canals at night and watch the Floating City come to life.
We hope you enjoyed this Venice travel guide and that it gave you a few ideas for your own trip.

Florence in a Day: Hidden Gems & Top Attractions
Trastevere, Rome in a Day: Hidden Gems & Top Attractions
Hey guys, Sean here from The Roman Guy.
We’re here in Roma Termini station, it’s 6:05 AM and we have the 6:15 AM train for a Rome to Venice day trip.
We generally suggest you spend at least one night in Venice, but not every vacation has time for that. We understand so we’re going to show you how to see Venice in a day.
Venice is made up from 118 island and is home to over a quarter million people. The historical center itself and what we call the main island, is home to just around 55,000 residents.
With an average of over 30 million visitors per year, it’s a great idea to plan your day well.
Venice is about 15 times smaller than Rome, and all the top things to do are within walking distance from one another.
Venice is in the Veneto region of Italy, on the Adriatic Sea. By train it’s about 3.5 hours from Rome, 2 hours from Florence and 2.5 hours from Milan. Don’t get off at Venice Mestre, Venice S. Lucia is your stop!
From Venice Santa Lucia train station you can either take an expensive water taxi which is really cool, or the vaporetto which is like a boat version of a bus. You can take number 2 which will take you straight to St Mark's Square.
You can buy your tickets right outside the train station, and a single journey will cost you 7.50 euros as of 2018. Remember to validate the ticket before you get on board. The ticket is good for 75 minutes after you validate it and you can hop on and hop off as you go. The trip to St Mark's Square takes about 30 minutes.
St Mark’s Square is one of the most important and most recognizable squares in all of Italy. If you’re planning on going inside St Mark’s Basilica, you can either buy tickets online or book a guided tour to skip the line. Don’t show up without a ticket, or you’ll spend your day in Venice waiting in line.
Remember that entering St Mark’s Basilica, you’ll be entering a holy place, so make sure you have your shoulders and knees covered.
On the right hand side of St Mark's Basilica, you’ll find the Doge’s Palace. The special itinerary tour takes you to the once famous cell of Casanova and you also get to go across the Bridge of Sighs which is super cool!
You can visit the Doge’s Palace every day from 8:30am to 7pm April through October or until 5:30pm November to March.
This clock has been keeping time in Venice for over 500 years and built in the late 15th century.
Venetian legends hold that when the clock was revealed, it was so beautiful that the Doge had the clockmaker blinded so he could never create anything to rival it.
If you’re a lover of great views, definitely check out the Campanile or Bell Tower, open only April through to October.
Most people just think it’s the Libreria Acqua Alta is just a quirky store with gondolas inside but there’s actually a method to the madness. The name translates to the Library of High Water, most books are protected in bathtubs or even a gondola. This is because the canals flood and it’s the best way to keep the books protected.
Now we’ll head for a casual lunch at Osteria al Portego. In Venetian bars they sell something called Cicchetti, different mixed foods; fish, meat, all kind of fried items…
The Rialto Bridge is one of the most recognized attractions in Europe, let alone Venice. It was actually first built as a pontoon bridge in the 12th century. Later they rebuilt it out of wood but it burnt down a few times and collapsed on even more occasions. Finally they completed what you see today in 1591.
Nino & Friends is a cool little shop that we happened to stumble upon, they had the best cookie I’ve ever eaten in my life.
This city is a fishing village, so definitely walk through the fish market, which is a great picture of the local culture.
The Jewish Ghetto in Venice is the oldest Jewish ghetto in the world. It was created here in 1516.
In the Jewish Ghetto neighborhood you can find many cicchetteria and restaurants such as Mezzopieno, Bacaro dai Morosi and Birreria Zanon.
At this point, check your watch, see what time it is and start making your way back to the train station.

Restaurants in Venice - Italy ( Il Canova, Fortuny Restaurant, Osteria Oliva Nera)
Venice can be a difficult place to find a decent meal; it is filled with often awful restaurants offering 'tourist' menus. However, it's not impossible to find good quality food and you don't have to travel too far from the famous Piazza San Marco to do so. There are a number of very good restaurants in the Castello area with great food and atmosphere. If budget is not an issue, there are also a number of excellent restaurants, many with terraces on the canals or in private gardens.
The Venice restaurants have been priced into three categories and have also been rated out of 5:
Expensive (over €100)
Moderate (€50 to €100)
Cheap (up to €50)
These Venetian restaurant prices include a three course meal for one, at least one glass of wine and taxes and service charges. It is customary in Italy to add an extra 10% tip to your bill if you've received a good service.

1 Day in Venice, Italy: Sightseeing + Food | Italy Day 3
After a couple days in the Dolomites, we ventured to Venice for one full day of sightseeing and eating! It was so fun to explore a city that we have seen in movies, tv shows, and even Las Vegas for so long! We had a great morning escaping the crowds and seeing some of the major sights, getting lost, checking out Venice from 99 meters up, and of course, having lots of gelato and other delicious food. :)

The Best Italian
The day after Thanksgiving we spent cleaning the kitchen before heading out to the city. We stopped for lunch at 2nd City, which is a New York City Filipino restaurant that puts an American twist on some classics. We then head over to Best Buy while stopping at one of New York's many Christmas markets around town. After which we take the subway to eat dinner at our favorite Italian restaurant called Lupa for real fresh al dente pasta like back in Italy. Make sure to try the pasta tasting. It is well worth it!

Shopping in Venice, Italy
Shopping in Venice is an eclectic experience. As with most Italian cities, there are plenty of designer stores to choose from but Venice's side streets streets are lined with an abundance of tourist shops selling porcelain carnival masks and other local gifts.
Key areas:
Extending from the Piazza San Marco to the Rialto area, the Mercerie and Calle dei Fabbri are the main shopping streets while expensive clothing boutiques line the wide Calle Larga XXII Marzo nearby. A good area for souvenir and gift shopping is the streets north of Campo Santo
Stefano.
For lovely glass shops and wonderful handmade paper shops, there are several in the narrow streets near the Accademia gallery. Nape sells hard-to-find antique glass pieces from Murano. Giorgio Nason, in a long line of master glass blowers dating back to 1325, sells lovely rings to Liberty in London and Barney's in New York while his wife Trina Tygrett sells glass bead jewellery from her shop nearby. Il Pavone is a delightful old shop selling a range of handmade papers and notebooks.
Markets:
The most popular market in Venice is the fish market which is located alongside the Rialto Bridge. It is open Tuesday to Saturday between 0800--1200.
Shopping centres:
There are not any shopping centres but there is a department store called Coin, Cannaregio 5787, Salizzada San Giovanni Grisostomo, which sells women's, men's and children's clothes, and has beauty and homeware sections.
Opening hours:
Shopping hours in Venice vary greatly. Generally speaking, larger shops in Venice will open between 0900--1900. Smaller shops often close in the afternoons and reopen in the evenings. Many food shops will close on Wednesday afternoons. Tourist shops tend to remain open most hours, with the occasional exception being Monday mornings.
Souvenirs:
Classic Venetian souvenirs include papier mache Carnival masks, Murano glass trinkets (look for a sticker saying Vetro Artistico Murano if you want to get the real thing), hand-made paper and notebooks and lace from Burano Island.
Tax information:
There is no tax-free shopping in Venice, and sales tax, known as Value Added Tax (VAT) is 21%. VAT is included in the indicated price of products.
