Ibn Battuta was a Berber Muslim Moroccan scholar and explorer who widely travelled the medieval world. We visited the city Turkistan in the southern region of Kazakhstan and stopped by Shymkent. We took an overnight train to Shymkent, and then a taxi/minibus for about 1.5 hours to Turkistan. It was a super windy and unusually cold day for the region, and I’m sure the mausoleum looks even more impressive when the sun is out.
