Oxelösund is a locality and the seat of Oxelösund Municipality in Södermanland County, Sweden with 10,870 inhabitants in 2010. It is located less than 15 kilometres south from the city centre of its larger neighbour Nyköping, with the two urban areas forming a wider agglomeration of nearly 50,000 people. Oxelösund literally translates as Molar Isle Strait into English, with the town being a harbour town bordering on an offshore archipelago, separated by narrow straits of water.
