The area came to be known as old Phaleron in the later 19th century, following the development of the settlement of Neo Phaleron in 1850-1860, now a suburb of Piraeus. Before 1920 old Phaleron was a small seaside village where the houses were few and between which there were long stretches of wheat, barley and oats as well as many vineyards. Some of the men were fishermen, but most were farmers, shepherds and stock breeders. In 1883 the first public transport connecting old Phaleron with Athens was inaugurated, a horse-drawn tram line. In 1890 steam trams were introduced and it was later electrified.
In the western ‘Delta’ area a sea plane airport was started in August 1926, with the first international route Brindisi - Faliro - Istanbul.
Many Greeks from Istanbul (Constantinople) came to live in Palaio Faliro, especially after 1974, and now form a very active and prominent community.

Best Greek Restaurant in Palaio Faliro
The cradle of culture and knowledge. Home to philosophers and explorers that had a huge impact on today’s world. A place where one of the oldest civilization has developed. Greece.
It’s this kind of place where you go to see stunning views, but mostly to feel the atmosphere and experience their long-established culture.
Greek people, proud of their achievements are still very traditional in the way they live and behave.
Once you see all the places of interest, you want to encounter Greeks, learn about their hospitality and sample their cuisine.
We couldn’t find any better place to have some local bites and beer in Athens. A small sign in Greek outside in the pavement led to the restaurant’s garden. The roof was covered with grapes. Then two most adorable owners came out to greet us. There was no menu in English, but we liked that a lot. We googled traditional Greek food and asked for availability. Luckily they had all we wanted: Tiropitakia –hot, triangular pastries with feta cheese, Horiatiki - commonly known as Greek salad (tomatoes, cucumbers, onion, olives and feta cheese) and Dolmades – lemon and olive flavoured rice wrapped in grape leaves and some local beer. We were served by smiley senior owners. The food was tasty and fresh. Every step we felt very welcome and were asked if we enjoy. At the end, when our plates got empty, the owners brought us a surprise dessert on the house. The cake was delicious. That day we decided to come back on each day of our stay.
The next day we have tried all side dishes that the owner presented to us. There was some crab salad, muscles, small fish, aubergine, salads, cheese, tzatziki. We got some fruit for a dessert. We loved it as much as the day before. Spending time there was so relaxing.
On the last day we just popped in for a salad. We also wanted to say goodbye and thank you. The owner told us his story and after eating we took some by-bye pictures. All good things come to an end..
We will definitely remember the place thanks to the great people we met, their story and their approach.
This was a real pleasure and a lifetime memory to share with others.

Parthenon at night | The Acropolis of Athens, Greece HD
The magnificent temple on the Acropolis of Athens, known as the Parthenon, was built between 447 and 432 BCE in the Age of Pericles, and it was dedicated to the city’s patron deity Athena. The temple was constructed to house the new cult statue of the goddess by Pheidias and to proclaim to the world the success of Athens as leader of the coalition of Greek forces which had defeated the invading Persian armies of Darius and Xerxes. The temple would remain in use for more than a thousand years, and despite the ravages of time, explosions, looting, and pollution damage, it still dominates the modern city of Athens, a magnificent testimony to the glory and renown the city enjoyed throughout antiquity.
The project to build a new temple to replace the damaged buildings of the acropolis following the Persian attack on the city in 480 BCE and restart the aborted temple project begun in 490 BCE was instigated by Pericles and funded by surplus from the war treasury of the Delian League, a political alliance of Greek city-states that had formed together to repel the threat of Persian invasion.Over time the confederation transformed into the Athenian Empire, and Pericles therefore had no qualms in using the League’s funds to embark on a massive building project to glorify Athens.
The acropolis itself measures some 300 by 150 metres and is 70 metres high at its maximum. The temple, which would sit on the highest part of the acropolis, was designed by the architects Iktinos and Kallikratis, and the project was overseen by the sculptor Phidias (Pheidias). Pentelic marble from the nearby Mt. Pentelicus was used for the building, and never before had so much marble (22,000 tons) been used in a Greek temple. Pentelic marble was known for its pure white appearance and fine grain. It also contains traces of iron which over time has oxidised, giving the marble a soft honey colour, a quality particularly evident at sunrise and sunset.
The name Parthenon derives from one of Athena’s many epithets: Athena Parthenos, meaning Virgin. Parthenon means ‘house of Parthenos’ which was the name given in the 5th century BCE to the chamber inside the temple which housed the cult statue. The temple itself was known as the mega neos or ‘large temple’ or alternatively as Hekatompedos neos, which referred to the length of the inner cella: 100 ancient feet. From the 4th century BCE the whole building acquired the name Parthenon.

Kallithea, Athens
Kallithea (Greek: Καλλιθέα, meaning the best view) is the 8th largest municipality in Greece and the 4th biggest in the Athens urban area (following municipalities of Athens, Piraeus and Peristeri).
The site on which the city was developed covers the biggest part of the area to the south of Athens, protected in ancient times (5th century BC) by the Long Walls to the west and the Phalerum Wall to the east. Somewhere within this area the ancient town of Xypete lay. The town and its citizens are mentioned, among other places, in Plato's Dialogs.
