Peru is a city in, and the county seat of, Miami County, Indiana, United States. The population was 11,417 at the 2010 census, making it the most populous city in Miami County. Peru is located along the Wabash River, which divides the city in two. Residents usually pronounce the name of Peru like the name of the nation of Peru is commonly pronounced in American English. Elderly Hoosiers commonly use the archaic pronunciation of PEE-roo.

    Indiana Dunes State Park is an Indiana State Park located 47 miles east of Chicago, Illinois, United States. The park is bounded by Lake Michigan to the northwest, and is surrounded on all four sides by the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore, a unit of the National Park Service . The 1,530 acres Dunes Nature Preserve makes up the bulk of eastern part of the park, and includes most of the park’s hiking trails and dune landscape. This was one of the first places Richard Lieber considered when establishing the Indiana State Park system. Like all Indiana state parks, there is a fee for entrance. It was designated a National Natural Landmark in 1974.Preserving the Indiana Dunes has resulted from the efforts of many citizens and politicians.

    Mississinewa Lake Dam is a dam in Miami County, Indiana, just outside the town of Peru, in the central part of the state. The earthen dam was constructed from 1962 to 1967 by the United States Army Corps of Engineers, with a height of 140 feet, and 8000 feet long at its crest. It impounds the Mississinewa River for irrigation storage and flood control. The dam is owned and operated by the Great Lakes and Ohio River Division of the Corps of Engineers. The reservoir it creates, Mississinewa Lake, has a normal water surface of five square miles, has a maximum capacity of 368,400 acre-feet, and a normal capacity of 75,200 acre-feet. Brace yourself for a USA road trip! Thousands of you entered our STA Travel Uncover/Discover Road Trip contest, by sharing your best travel tips or aspirations on the subject of travelling in the states, on our website.

We chose our winners, hired a professional film crew, and set a brief to capture their journeys. Our first winners, Tamsin from the UK and Guido from the Netherlands, travelled from NYC to Los Angeles, via the urban hideouts of the northeast and the California coast.

Then we welcomed Aussies, Jade and Aaron to explore Las Vegas and the National Parks of Utah and Arizona. Finally, Germans Max and Christian, and Alix from France and her Italian friend, Lorena, brought the journey home as they toured Florida and the deep south.
