The Virginia Creeper Trail is a 35-mile multi-purpose rail trail, located in the Mount Rogers National Recreation Area of southwestern Virginia. The trail runs from Abingdon to Whitetop, Virginia, near the North Carolina state line – through National Forest and crossing numerous restored trestles and crossing the Appalachian Trail. The trail descends from Abingdon to Damascus, traversing rolling farm countryside and numerous parcels of private property – requiring opening and closing private gates along the route. From Damascus, hikers, cyclists and equestrians ascend to Whitetop, following Laurel Creek. Cyclists can use a shuttle service to Whitetop for the 17-mile return descent.

A drive through Pilot Mountain State Park, located in Pinnacle, North Carolina. Pilot Mountain State Park is a beautiful and picturesque place to enjoy nature. The state park includes things such as camping, picnicking, hiking and rock climbing. There are miles of trails. The 49 site family campground offers no hookups, but water spigots are located throughout the campground. There is no dump station located at Pilot Mountain State Park.

For centuries Pilot Mountain has served as a landmark for Native Americans, early explorers, and migrating wildlife. This iconic peak is the most recognizable mountain in North Carolina and forms the centerpiece of Pilot Mountain State Park. Rising to an elevation of 2421 feet, this solitary quartzite mountain, part of the ancient Sauratown Mountain range, was dedicated a National Natural Landmark and now serves as a beacon to hikers, rock climbers, and nature lovers.

A 6.5 mile wooded corridor trail joins the Mountain Section of the park with the Yadkin River Section which includes the north and south side of the river and a dozen small islands. This scenic section of the Yadkin provides hiking trails, fishing, and includes a canal wall built in 1825 that was designed to deliver boat traffic above the rocky shoals that form islands in this portion of the river.

Since 1968, a portion of the wild Piedmont and a geological wonder has been preserved for you to enjoy at Pilot Mountain State Park.

Hiking Hanging Rock State Park NC with Phantom 4 in 4K

I just went hiking while on vacation at Hanging Rock State Park in Danbury, North Carolina with my DJI Osmo and Phantom drone. It was a beautiful day outside and the Fall leaves were just starting to change. Two weeks later would have been much better for leaf color though. it was my first time using the Osmo outdoors in an active setting and the built-in microphone worked, but as you can tell the audio was very scratchy and weak. The movie required lots of audio editing and boosting. From now on I'll definitely have my Rode mic or even lapel microphone.
