West Coast of Brittany - France 4K Travel Channel
The west coast of Brittany undoubtedly belongs to the most beautiful in the world. Miles long sandy beaches alternate with bizarre rock formations. At low tide you find a flat beach, whereas towering wave often rage at high tide. Fishing boats and sparse vegetation give the landscape its unique touch.
The Route of our discovery tour leads from Brest to le Conquet, Ruscumunoc, the lighthouse of Trézien, the port of Porscav, Lanildut, Melon, Porspoder, Argenton and to the beach of Penfoul. Along the tourist coast to Portsall we drive to the beaches of Saint Pabu Lampaul-Ploudalmézeau and d'Erlearch. From there we return to Brest.
Le Conquet lies in the outermost west of Brittany. The bay offers the fishing boats a good protection from the elements. It is market day and we take the opportunity for a little walk through the small town. To the east of the city, at the end of the beach are beautiful biotopes which are home for various birds. We reach a fantastic sandy beach north of Le Conquet, la Plague des Blancs Sablons.
In Ruscumunoc à Trézien we explore the coast. It is characterized by rocky sections with huge boulders. After that we go to the lighthouse of Trézien which shall offer a marvelous vision but was closed because of the lunch break. Therefore we drive on directly of to the port Porscav.
Again, the same image; Sandy beaches, cliffs, fishing boats. However, it differs from the previous landscape and shows its unique character.
In Argenton a series of peninsulas lead into the sea. An old stone custom house reminds of past times
North of Penfoul, a bay with fine sand extends deep into the inland region. The bay is used for surfing, that's why you find a surf school here.
Along the tourist coast we reach the small port of Portsall.

Die Westküste der Bretagne zählt zweifellos zu den schönsten der Welt. Kilometerlange Sandstrände wechseln sich mit bizarren Felsformationen ab. Wo bei Ebbe flacher Strand zu finden ist, toben bei Flut oft turmhohe Wellen. Fischerboote und karge Vegetation geben der Landschaft ihre einzigartige Note.
Die Route unserer Erkundungsfahrt führt von Brest nach le Conquet, Ruscumunoc, zum Leuchtturm von Trézien, zum Hafen von Porscav, Lanildut, Melon, Porspoder, Argenton, zum Strand von Penfoul, über die Touristenküste nach Portsall, zu den Stränden von Saint Pabu Lampaul-Ploudalmézeau und d'Erlearch. Anschließend fahren wir zurück nach Brest.
Le Conquet liegt im äußersten Westen der Bretagne. Die Bucht bietet eine guten Schutz für die Fischerboote vor den Naturgewalten. Es ist gerade Markttag und wir nutzen die Gelegenheit für einen kleinen Spaziergang durch die kleine Stadt. Im Osten der Stadt, am Ende der Bucht gibt es wunderschöne Biotope, die einer Reihe von Vögeln eine Heimat bieten. Wir erreichen den nördlich von Le Conquet gelegenen phantastischen Sandstrand, la Plage des Blancs Sablons.
Bei Ruscumunoc à Trézien erkunden wir die Küste. Die sich durch steinige Abschnitte mit riesigen Felsbrocken auszeichnet. Danach besuchen wir den Leuchtturm von Trézien, der einen herrlichen Weitblick bieten soll, aber wegen der Mittagspause geschlossen war. Deshalb fahren wir direkt weiter zum Hafen von Porscav.
Auch hier wieder das gleiche Bild; Sandstrände, Felsen, Fischerboote. Dennoch unterscheidet sie sich von der vorherigen Landschaft und stellt ihren einzigartigen Charakter zur Schau.
Bei Argenton führen eine Reihe von Halbinseln ins Meer. Ein altes steinernes Zollhaus erinnert an vergangene Zeiten
Nördlich von Penfoul erstreckt sich eine Bucht mit feinem Sand tief in das Landesinnere. Die Bucht wird zum Surfen genutzt, was einer hier angesiedelten Surf-Schule zu verdanken ist.
Entlang der Touristenküste erreichen wir den kleinen Hafen von Portsall.

Le Croisic and the Salt of Guérande - France 4K Travel Channel
Le Croisic lies at the western end of the Guérande peninsula. The commune is only accessible via a narrow land bridge. The picturesque village with its harbor nestles along the coast, that surrounds it on 3 sides, on the headland.
A car is not absolutely necessary, everything is within easy walking distance. As an end-point of the TGV route Paris simmers Montparnasse over Nantes and Saint-Nazaire, the commune is quickly reachable by train from all over.
You find sandy beaches to take a swim, as well as a rough rocky coastline, the preferred home of the birds.
On the northern shore of the bay one can recognize Pen Bron. Once founded as a monastery, it was later converted into a fortress and then to a hospital. Today, it is the center for the treatment of scoliosis and polio in France.
However, there still is another treasure in the bay north of Le Croisic. The Guérande salt. Guérande is a small medieval town surrounded by powerful fastening walls. It is center of the salt extraction.
But the real salt extraction is carried out in Saillé, a village between Guérande and Le Croisic. In the House of salt gardener, the salt is cleaned and dried. At the same time you find a visitor center with multimedia presentations and knowledgeable guides. As we have to continue our journey, we don't pay a visit this time.
Anyone driving through the bay (Marais salants), sees the endless salt flats, where the salt is extracted from seawater.
At dusk, we reach Saint-Nazaire where we cross the muzzle of the Loire on the way to Nantes.

Le Croisic liegt am westlichen Ende der Halbinsel Guérande. Der Ort ist nur über eine schmale Landbrücke erreichbar. Der pittoreske Ort mit seinem Hafen schmiegt sich entlang der Küste, die ihn von 3 Seiten umfasst, auf die Landzunge.
Ein Auto ist nicht zwingend erforderlich, alles ist bequem zu Fuß zu erreichen. Als Endpunkt der TGV Strecke Paris Gare Montparnasse über Nantes und Saint-Nazaire, ist auch der Ort rasch mit der Bahn von überall her erreichbar.
Sandstrände zum Baden sind ebenfalls vorhanden, genau so wie raue felsige Küstenabschnitte, die bevorzugte Heimat der Vögel sind.
Am nördlichen Ufer der Bucht ist Pen Bron erkennbar. Einst als Kloster gegründet, wurde es später in eine Befestigungsanlage und dann in ein Hospital umgewandelt. Heute ist es das Zentrum für die Behandlung von Skoliose und Polio in Frankreich.
In der Bucht nördlich von Le Croisic gibt es aber noch einen anderen Schatz. Das Salz aus Guérande. Guérande ist eine mittelalterliche Kleinstadt, die mit mächtigen Befestigungsmauern umgeben ist. Sie ist Zentrum der Salzgewinnung. Doch die eigentliche Salzgewinnung erfolgt in Saillé, einem kleinen Dorf zwischen Guérande und Le Croisic. Im Haus der Salzgärtner wird das Salz gereinigt und getrocknet. Gleichzeitig ist es ein Besucherzentrum mit multimedialen Vorführungen und sachkundigen Führern. Aber wir verschieben den Besuch, da wir unsere Reise fortsetzen müssen
Wer durch die Bucht (Marais salants) fährt, sieht die endlosen Salinen, in denen das Salz aus dem Meerwasser gewonnen wird.
Mit einfallender Dämmerung erreichen wir Saint-Nazaire, wo wir auf dem Weg nach Nantes die Mündung der Loire überqueren.

Evening in Berlin - Germany 4K Travel Channel
In the evening, Berlin appears in a completely different atmosphere. The Kurfürstendamm (Ku'damm) has evolved over the last two decades to a shopping mall. Between the shops and cinemas there are still scattered restaurants. Only one bar,which we will visit later, remained unchanged in the old style.
First we move towards the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church and the Bahnhof Zoo station, to take the line 200 to Potsdam Square. We pass the Berlin Philharmonie and the Chamber Music Hall. From Potsdam Square we walk the short distance to the Brandenburg Gate, which we would like to see the illumination. From a distance we see the Reichstag building with its illuminated glass dome.
At the Potsdam Square we take a look at the old facade of the Hotel Esplanade, which had to be integrated into the Sony Center.
Back on the Ku'damm, we enjoy our dinner in the restaurant Knese in Knesebeckstrasse. The restaurant is part of the Plaza Hotel. In old Berlin atmosphere, you can eat Berlin specialties as well as classics such as Wiener Schnitzel.
We end our evening in the King's pub, the last bar in the old style at Kurfuerstendamm. As long as Berlin was surrounded by the wall, the night life primarily took place around the Kurfürstendamm. At that time Bars and many discos turned night into day. The owner of the King's Pub told about the old days and how life in Berlin has changed since the Fall of the Berlin Wall.

Abends in Berlin erscheint die Stadt in völlig anderer Atmosphäre. Der Kurfürstendamm (Ku'damm) hat sich in den letzten zwei Jahrzehnten zu einer Einkaufmeile entwickelt. Zwischen Geschäften und Kinos gibt es noch vereinzelt Restaurants. Nur eine einzige Bar im alten Stil ist erhalten geblieben, die wir später noch besuchen werden.
Doch zuerst gehen wir in Richtung Kaiser Wilhelm Gedächtniskirche, und weiter zum Bahnhof Zoo um mit der Linie 200 zum Potsdamer Platz zu fahren. Wir passieren die Berliner Philharmonie und den Kammermusiksaal. Vom Potsdamer Platz gehen wir das kurze Stück zu Fuß zum Brandenburger Tor, das wir gerne nächtlich illuminiert sehen wollen. Von der Ferne sehen wir auch das Reichstagsgebäude mit seiner beleuchteten Glaskuppel.
Beim Potsdamer Platz werfen wir noch einen Blick auf die alte Fassade des Hotel Esplanade, die in das Sony Center integriert werden musste.
Zurück am Ku'damm gönnen wir uns ein Abendessen im Restaurant Knese in der Knesebeckstrasse. Das Restaurant gehört zum Plaza Hotel. In Alt-Berliner Atmosphäre werden sowohl Berliner Spezialitäten als auch Klassiker wie Wiener Schnitzel serviert.
Den Abend beenden wir im King's Pub, der letzten Bar im alten Stil des Ku'damms. Solange Berlin von der Mauer umgeben war, spielte sich das nächtliche Leben bevorzugt am Kurfürstendamm ab. Eine Bar nach der anderen und viele Discos machten die Nacht zum Tag. Auch die Besitzerin des King's Pub erzählte uns von alten Tagen und wie sich das Leben in Berlin seit der Wende verändert hat.

Kunming, Yunnan, Shilin Stone Forest - China Travel Channel
The Shilin Stone Forest - 石林 - or Shilin Yizu Zizhixian - 石林彝 族 自治县 - located southeast of Kunming is a highlight for all visitors.
Shilin Yi Autonomous County, formerly called Lunan County, is home to the Yi nationality and under the jurisdiction of Kunming , the provincial capital of Yunnan in China. The bizarre formations of the Stone Forrest stretch across 24,000 hectares. 80 hectares of the Stone Forrest have been developed for tourists. 270 million years ago, sediment settled in the sea. Later the sediments were lifted tectonically and the soft layers were eroded by wind and water. The limestone formations reach a height of 98 ft.
Since 2007, two parts of the Stone Forest - the Naigu Stone Forest and the Suogeyi Village - belong to the UNESCO World Heritage Sites as part of the South China Karst.

Der Steinwald Shilin - 石林 - oder auch Shilin Yizu Zizhixian - 石林彝族自治县 - liegt südöstlich des Stadtzentrums von Kunming und ist ein Highlight für alle Kunming Besucher.
Der autonomen Kreis Shilin ist Heim der Yi-Nationalität und zählt administrativ zu Kunming, der Hauptstadt der Provinz Yunnan. Auf 24.000 ha erstreckt sich die bizarre Formation des Steinwaldes, wovon 80 ha touristisch erschlossen sind.
Vor 270 Millionen Jahren lagerten sich im Meer Sedimente ab, die später tektonisch gehoben und deren weiche Schichten von Wind und Wasser abgetragen wurden. Die Karst Formationen erreichen eine Höhe von 30 m.
Seit 2007 zählen zwei Teile des Steinwalds, Naigu Stone Forest und Suogeyi Village, als Teil der Karstlandschaft in Südchina zum UNESCO Weltnaturerbe.

Mount Athos - Greece HD Travel Channel
Mount Athos is a monastic republic, which under international law belongs to Greece, but it is managed autonomously. The access for women is strictly prohibited - out of reverence for the Virgin Mary. In recent years, the modernization of the monasteries were funded by the EU with 150 million EUR, although it is rumored that the assets of the monasteries could cover the Greek debt. Furthermore the monks are not always picky in their choice of methods. During the annual election of the supreme chairman, truncheons were used and to declare opposition, a monastery was occupied, too. At present, approx. 2.000 monks live on Mount Athos.
Apart from that, the monasteries around the holy Mount Athos are worth seeing. They house art historically unique objects, such as icons, manuscripts, frescoes and relics. The monasteries are part of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
The steep northern flanks of the 2,000 m high Mount Athos are visible over a long distance.

Der Heilige Berg Athos ist eine Mönchsrepublik, die völkerrechtlich zu Griechenland gehört, aber autonom verwaltet wird.
Frauen ist der Zutritt auf das Strengste untersagt -- aus Ehrfurcht vor der Gottesmutter Maria. In den letzten Jahren wurden Modernisierungen der Klosteranlagen von der EU mit 150 Mio Euro gefördert, obwohl man munkelt, dass die Vermögenswerte der Klöster die griechischen Staatsschulden decken könnten. Auch sonst sind die Mönche in der Wahl ihrer Methoden nicht immer wählerisch. Bei der jährlichen Wahl des obersten Vorsitzenden wurden auch schon Schlagstöcke zu Hilfe genommen und aus Opposition ein Kloster besetzt. Ca. 2.000 Mönche leben derzeit in Athos.
Unabhängig davon sind die Klosteranlagen rund um den heiligen Berg Athos äußerst sehenswert und beherbergen kunsthistorisch einzigartige Gegenstände, wie Ikonen, Handschriften, Fresken und Reliquien. Die Klöster sind Teil des UNESCO-Welterbes.
Weithin sichtbar sind die steilen Nordflanken des über 2.000 m hohen Berges Athos.

Summer Sailing Memories from Rade de Brest
