Abel Tasman Nat. Park, Takaka, Nelson, New Zealand Travel Video Guide
I have one day in the Nelson/Golden Bay area so decide to set myself a challenge of trying to hitchhike from Nelson to Takaka, and then onto Abel Tasman National Park. I learn about how the hippies moved into the Takaka region in the 1970's, and how even today the area is made up of lifestylers trying to live off the land.
'It takes six rides for this cat in a hat to explore this region by thumb, and there are not many places left in the world, where this can be done!'

Totaranui, Golden Bay
A travel and tourism guide to Totaranui in Able Tasman National Park aimed at people taking roadtrip holidays around New Zealand. The focus is mainly on providing information for visitors who are self-driving visitors touring around in both cars and camper vans. We look at the camping ground, the beach, the scenery and walks in the area. In particular we talk about the remoteness and lack of services there and taking a walk over to Anapai.
If you’re interesting in getting more detail about walks around Totaranui and Able Tasman National Park you could have a look at these links:
For attractions in the area you could check out:
roadtripnewzealand.com
roadtripnewzealand.co.nz
At roadtripnewzealand we believe that New Zealand is the best worlds best country to tour by car or camper van and we want to share our love of driving holidays with every interested traveller.
For more information about taking selfdrive road trips around through NZ then you have to go to roadtripnewzealand.com and see it all on the map.
That way you can see where everything is when you’re planning your travel itinerary. There’s a bunch of other useful information there about road safety and driving that we hope will be useful for visitors to New Zealand and help keep them safe while they’re here.
Our goal at roadtripnewzealand is to provide the best content on the web for people who are looking for New Zealand’s choicest little places. We don’t focus on places you hear about all the time like Queenstown, Auckland, Rotorua and Milford Sound, we’re more interested in the special little places that make us glad we live in New Zealand. It’s our personal view of our country, what we like and what we love and we hope to give visitors the inside running on the best places to see and the best things to do.
The excellent music is licensed from Alan Ferguson who wrote and performed it and is a total legend.
Maori Tours - Overnight Marae stays
TIME Unlimited Tours offers Overnight Marae stays around Auckland and beyond. Here we took a group of University students to Rotorua for a combined tour that included a Marae stay. Please see on our website.
A truly unique experience for your group -- enjoy life on an authentic Maori Marae for a very special Overnight or Full Day Experience. All food, drinks and cultural activities are included!
Visit a Marae (Maori meeting house), where we can show you and your group many interesting aspects of Maori culture. The iwi (tribal family) also benefits from your visit because it is our opportunity to give back to our local community.
Your Interactive Maori Culture Experience includes:
•Visit a real Maori community Marae set in a stunning location
•Experience a very traditional Maori welcome ceremony (powhiri) and the famous process of Hongi (nose pressing)
•Learn about Maori customs and traditions (tikanga) & even go home knowing some basic Maori language (te reo Maori)!
•Learning a basic Maori greeting (mihi) & develop a basic family tree/genealogy (whakapapa/pepeha) in a Maori speech
•The history of the Marae, Maori and the Treaty of Waitangi during our cultural walks at the Marae
•Learn some Waiata (Maori songs)
•Learn how to prepare a hangi (earth oven meal) - in fact we will prepare the meal together, take you through the process of cooking the food, lift the hangi from the REAL earth oven and enjoy a fantastic meal together. This is always one of the major highlights during our Marae stays.
•Learn about the Haka (famous war dance used by the All Blacks Rugby team!)
•Have a go at Flax (harakeke) weaving and/or wood carving (whakairo)
•Hear Maori Myths and Legends told by the local Tangata Whenua (people of the land)
•One night sleepover in a sacred traditional meeting house. If requested we can also provide separate accommodation at extra cost but we thoroughly recommend sleeping at the Marae to enjoy the complete experience.
•Great food (kai) is provided from the time the manuhiri (visitors) arrive at the Marae on day 1 through to their departure on day 2. We also provide snacks and drinks throughout your time with us, so nobody ever goes hungry!
•Complimentary pick-up and drop-off at/from Auckland City or your inner-city accommodation.
All expenses are included in the price of this tour!
Currently only $345 per person for the overnight experience on the Marae
Includes: All transport, food, Marae accommodation, Maori cultural and sightseeing activities!
Please note that our Marae stays are for group bookings of more than 20 persons only. Please contact us to discuss your requirements - see newzealandtours.travel

Sanctuary Mountain / Mount Maungatautari - New Zealand's Biggest Gap Year – BackpackerGuide.NZ
Day 23: Today we’re going to Sanctuary Mountain / Mount Maungatautari to check out some New Zealand native wildlife in this protected area.
Yesterday - Day 21 -
Tomorrow – Day 23 –
About this video:
After a night in the Arapuni Backpackers in the Waikato, it’s just a short drive to Sanctuary Mountain, also known as Mount Maungatautari. This is a pest-free wildlife sanctuary surrounded by a predator-proof fence in order to protect some of New Zealand’s most endangered species. What’s more, Sanctuary Mountain is open to the public to come and enjoy the unique wildlife of New Zealand.
We join a tour of one of the enclosures holding beautiful takahe birds and tuatara, a native New Zealand lizard that is a living descendent of the dinosaur era. After seeing and learning about these amazing creatures, we head off into the forest with a conservation team to release some kokakos – some of New Zealand’s most melodic songbirds.
Sanctuary Mountain / Mount Maungatautari has walking tracks within the boundaries of the predator-free area so it’s a great place to spot birds in New Zealand. An awesome New Zealand wildlife experience!
