A walk around The Village at Club Med Port Saint Lucie, FL
FLORIDA PANHANDLE, ROUTE 98, FLORIDA, USA
Driving on Highway 98 from the junction with Route 65 (southwest of Tallahassee, Florida's capital) up to the outskirts of Panama City Beach, with Gulf of Mexico on the left side.
In this beautiful area you'll drive thru communities of Eastpoint, Apalachicola, Port St Joe, Highland View, Mexico Beach (where CST time zone starts), driving by Tyndall AFB, then Panama City and at the end arriving at beautiful resort of Panama City Beach.
Couple of useful links mostly for out-of-state tourists:
Enjoy your Florida vacation and always drive safely.
Beach near Port St Joe, and St. Joseph Peninsula Park
There is good shelling on the beaches between Port St. Joe, Florida and the Tyndall Air Force base.
Nearby is the St Joseph Peninsula State Park. With miles of white sugar sand, this park has one of the top rated beaches in the United States. Sunbathing, snorkeling, and swimming are popular activities along the Gulf of Mexico and St. Joseph Bay. Canoeists and kayakers can see the high dunes and sand pine scrub. Over 240 species of birds have been sighted in the park.
St. Joseph Peninsula, best beach in the world
It's easy to see why this park is one of the top rated beaches in the United States. Some of the highest dunes in the nation are here as well as some of the last remaining coastal sand pine scrub (just looked like grasses to us but I am sure it's very important grass). We didn't stay at the park but they do offer camping and had some really nice sites. If you're looking for a relaxing and beautiful getaway, this beach is on our top 10 list!

Key West (Spanish: Cayo Hueso) is an island and city in the Straits of Florida on the North American continent. The city lies at the southernmost end of U.S. Route 1, the longest north-south road in the United States. Key West is the southernmost city in the contiguous United States and the westernmost island connected by highway in the Florida Keys. The island is about 4 miles (6.4 km) long and 1 mile (1.6 km) wide, with a total land mass of 4.2 square miles (11 km2). Duval Street, its main street, is 1.1 miles (1.8 km) in length in its 14-block-long crossing from the Gulf of Mexico to the Straits of Florida and the Atlantic Ocean. Key West is about 95 miles (153 km) north of Cuba at their closest points.
The city is the county seat of Monroe County. The city boundaries include the island of Key West and all or part of several nearby islands: Sigsbee Park, Fleming Key, Sunset Key, and the northern part of Stock Island. The total land area of the city is 5.6 square miles (14.5 km2). Key West is the southern terminus of U.S. Route 1, State Road A1A, the East Coast Greenway and, before 1935, the Florida East Coast Railway.
Key West is 129 miles (208 km) southwest of Miami by air, about 160 miles (260 km) by car, and 106 miles (171 km) north-northeast of Havana. Key West is a port of call for many passenger cruise ships. The Key West International Airport provides airline service. Naval Air Station Key West is an important year round training site for naval aviation due to the tropical weather, which is also the reason Key West was chosen as the Winter White House of President Harry S. Truman. The central business district is located along Duval Street and includes much of the northwestern corner of the island. The official city motto is One Human Family.

Florida Travel: Escape to the Lower Suwannee National Wildlife Refuge
You might not expect the peace and quiet you'll find in the Lower Suwannee National Wildlife Refuge, but you'll be pleasantly surprised. Seemingly unchanged for decades, you can fish, paddle or hike while leaving your day-to-day worries at the entrance.

Key West, a U.S. island city, is part of the Florida Keys archipelago. It's also Florida's southernmost point, lying roughly 90 miles north of Cuba. Famed for its pastel-hued, conch-style houses, it’s a cruise-ship stop also accessible from the mainland via the Overseas Highway. It’s known more for its coral reefs – destinations for diving and snorkeling – than for its beaches.
Key West is the far frontier, edgier and more eccentric than the other keys, and also far more captivating. At its heart, this 7-sq-mile island feels like a beautiful tropical oasis, where the moonflowers bloom at night and the classical Caribbean homes are so sad and romantic it’s hard not to sigh at them.
While it has obvious allure, it's not without its contradictions. On one side of the road, there are literary festivals, Caribbean villas, tropical dining rooms and expensive art galleries. On the other, an S&M fetishist parade, frat boys passing out on the sidewalk and grizzly bars filled with bearded burnouts. With all that in mind, it's easy to find your groove in this setting, no matter where your interests lie. As in other parts of the Keys, nature plays a starring role here, with some breathtaking sunsets – cause for nightly celebration down on Mallory Sq.
The earliest Key West neighborhoods, on the western part of the island, are broadly known as Old Town. The Key West Historic District includes the major tourist destinations of the island, including Mallory Square, Duval Street, the Truman Annex and Fort Zachary Taylor. Old Town is where the classic bungalows and guest mansions are found. Bahama Village, southwest of Whitehead Street, features houses, churches, and sites related to its Afro-Bahamian history. The Meadows, lying northeast of the White Street Gallery District, is exclusively residential.
Key West, the southernmost point in the United States, is famous for watersports, lively nightlife, beaches, historic sites and its pastel, conch-style architechture. Duval Street, one of the most energetic strips of shops, bars and cafes anywhere, offers Sloppy Joe’s bar, a favorite Key West hangout of novelist Ernest Hemingway. And, for the more sober-minded, there's Ernest Hemingway Home and Museum.
