PORTOVIEJO - ECUADOR - 2017
Portoviejo, capital of the Manabi province, located in the western lowlands region of Ecuador. With 280.000 inhabitants it's the political and economical capital of the region. Portoviejo is a large commercial center for the province, where there are two shopping malls, one with a large hypermarket, 8 movie theaters, food court, and other stores. There is a large flea market in downtown. Locals are very friendly and very well educated. The city is home of the cancer treatment hospital Dr Julio Villacreses Colmont serving the provinces of Manabí and Esmeraldas. Portoviejo is the perfect place to enjoy traditional Manabí cuisine, of great fame in Ecuador, usually at countryside restaurants located on the side of the Portoviejo-Crucita roadway. The local airport is used for domestic flights. This city is one of the oldest in Ecuador. Portoviejo is currently recovering from a devastating earthquake on 16th of April 2016. 676 people lost their lives and lost many beloved ones. Ecuador was broken. It mourned and cried. This was a national disaster that no one could have seen coming nor preventing. Today, Portoviejo is recovering with the help of Ecuador. Ecuador was more unified then ever..

Manta is the most important port city in the Province of Manabí and the one having the greatest economic growth. There are good hotels in Manta near Tarqui Beach and El Murcielago Beach. Noteworthy locations near Manta are towns of Jaramijó, Punta Blanca, San Mateo and Montecristi. The province of Manabi is home to over three hundred kilometers of peaceful and relaxing Pacific Ocean shoreline
A Tour of Ecuador's Southern Coast
Whenever you hear about the Pacific Ocean beaches of Ecuador, often the focus is mostly on the two more populated cities on the coast—the port city of Manta and the resort town of Salinas. My wife and I live in Salinas, but recently we embarked on a road trip, taking a week to cover the four-hour drive along the Ruta del Sol between those two major destinations, and a bit further north of Manta. We saw a lot of beautiful places, and met many interesting people. This video will give you a look at just seven of the beach towns we visited, giving you an idea of the range of options available on Ecuador’s coast.
Listed from south to north, you will get a taste of Ayangue, Montañita, Ayampe, Salango, Puerto Lopez, Santa Marianita, and the “twin cities” of San Jacinto/San Clemente.
Of course, all of these towns have great beaches, that is pretty much a given on Ecuador’s coast. But we found that each place was also a unique destination to be enjoyed for its own particular charm and lifestyle.

MY ECUADOR TRIP! | Janessa Kohs
This past January I studied abroad in Ecuador! While I was there I learned and experienced their culture. I did things such as climbing a volcano, staying with a host family, zip lining, helping with Venezuelan immigrants and refugees, volunteer work, meeting an indigenous tribe, and much more!

QUEVEDO - ECUADOR 2017
Quevedo, city of the Los Rios province located in the Western lowlands region of Ecuador. With around 200.000 residents it is a mid-size city in Ecuador. Quevedo is an important city in the agriculture sector of Ecuador. It is one of fast growing cities in Ecuador. Roads are being built, dilapidated houses are being replaced by appartments or villa's, shopping centres are being built to boost the economic activities etc etc. In recent years non-agricultural activities have experienced significant progress mainly in the financial and educational sectors. Quevedo's geographic location makes it an important logistics link between the Pacific coastal area's main population centers like Guayaquil, Santo Domingo and Manta and cities in the Andes highlands such as Ambato and Quito. Quevedo is an upcoming city that will rise through the hard work of its residents.

Ecuador by Bicycle Slideshow
It's all at morrisonlife.com
Ecuador is a relatively small country by South American standards at 109,483 square miles or about the same size as Japan, New Zealand and the UK incl. Ireland, with a population hovering around 13 - 16 Million.
It appears to be heavily influenced by the USA though, as most imported manufactured goods tend to be from the States, like all Cigarettes, canned foods, machinery, trucking and a lot of the cars etc. They even use the US Dollar which we find bizarre, but after their disaster with their own Sucre currency in 2000, they could only stabilise the situation by adopting the dollar. Of course with the use of the dollar it has made goods and services more expensive so it is not a cheap country except where and how the poor live. Americans and Canadians flock there to retire as anyone with $25,000 can buy a property or business and live there forever as long as you have about $1000 a month coming in, per person. It is paradise for some but far from it for us.
Travel Vlog: Ecuador’s coastal gems l Los Frailes, Olon, Puerto Lopez
I hope you guys enjoyed this coastal adventure in Ecuador! This is day 4, and it's officially time to unwind as we head back to the city. In this video, you'll get a small taste of Olon, Puerto Lopez and Los Frailes (one of my favorite hidden gems). If you visit these places, PLEASE try cazuela de camaron and thank me later!
Locations:
Victor Hugo Hotel Puerto Lopez:
(Malecón Norte y 24 de Mayo, Puerto López 131950, Ecuador)
*Where they serve the coconut shrimp, ceviche and tacos*
Los Frailes Beach:
You can drive or take a bus from the terminal just outside of Puerto Lopez. The park entrance is free and you'll either walk (bring sneakers) or pay for a tuk-tuk to drive you to the beach entrance. The beach closes at 430pm and becomes dangerous to swim in (especially near the cave).
