About The Chateau Garli.....
The Chateau Garli is located on the foothills of Dhauladhar mountain range of the Himalayas, in the heritage village of Garli built by Lala Mela Ram Sud in 1921. It fell into a state of disrepair as no one visited the house for the last 20 years. In September 2012, Amish Sud, his great grandson spent a week at Garli and rediscovered the potential, beauty and heritage value of the place. Thereafter, Yatish C. Sud (grandson) and Amish Sud took up the restoration work, equipping it with modern amenities to turn it into a heritage hotel. The art work was undertaken by Tarini Sud, the great grand-daughter......

Move Over Prague | Explore India’s First Heritage Villages | Pragpur & Garli

When you think of Himachal, you picture the images of snow-capped mountains, long winding roads, rows of pine trees and gushing rivers.

And then one day I saw a few pictures of Garli & Pragpur. To me it looked like somewhere in Europe. And I was left in disbelief that such a place exists in India and that too in the heart of Himachal Pradesh. So off I went to explore the Prague of India - The heritage villages of Garli & Pragpur.

Both these villages were built by the Soods community in the 16th century. These merchants travelled the world and returned home to build mansions, schools and hospitals in the European style architecture. And with an agenda of preserving this unique architecture and the cultural significance, the govt named them a heritage zone around 20 years back.

Truly speaking Garli & Pragpur are not for everyone. But if you ask me, one should go there atleast once. Not only for the charm of European elegance but also to revisit the childhood memories

At the heart of the medieval hamlet of Pragpur is a three hundred and fifty year old ancestral haveli known as the Judge’s Court. It is situated at an altitude of about 2000 ft. from the main Kangra Valley.

This is one of the major destinations in the country where rural tourism is being promoted. It was initially built for Justice Sir Jai Lal by his beloved father Bhandari Lal. The establishment of Judge’s Court has a very interesting history behind it.
