Being identified as a tourist is generally not a good thing. Here's how to blend in with the natives.
Step 1: Research local customs
Research the local cuisine and customs. That way, you won’t get punched for pointing your foot at someone in Thailand (considered extremely insulting) or laugh uproariously when someone in China offers you bird’s-nest soup.
Step 2: Dress appropriately in houses of worship
If you plan to visit houses of worship, determine what is acceptable attire. Some may require that women wear dresses or that your head be covered. Complying is often not only a sign of respect—but your only way in.
Step 3: Learn key phrases
Learn a few key phrases in the local language. Many tourists never bother to learn even the basics, so this will endear you to the natives and distance you from the tourists.
Step 4: Learn a few key phrases in the local
Don’t pack a tracksuit unless you’re planning to jog. Nothing says 'Tacky American' like a velour running suit, which in some countries is like wearing your pajamas. And leave your, 'I’m with Stupid ' t-shirt behind, too.
Tip
Forget the fanny pack. It a dead giveaway that you’re from out of town—and makes an easy target for pickpockets.
Step 5: Photocopy pages from your guide
Make photocopies of selected pages from guidebooks so you don’t have to lug the entire book around.
Step 6: Don’t shout
Speak at a soft but audible volume. Don’t fall prey to that bad American habit of speaking TOO LOUD in public places. Nothing betrays you faster than shouting, 'HEY, MABEL, ARE WE USING PESOS OR LIRE TODAY?'
Step 7: Don’t do the pee-pee dance
Don’t pantomime any body function requiring a restroom. In most parts of the world, 'toilet,' or a slight variant, is clearly understood and will resolve your need nicely.

Paris Gold Ring Scammer Busted on Camera: TL;DR - In Paris and elsewhere there are people who try to scam tourists out of their money by pretending to find men's gold rings, don't fall for it!

Having been targeted for this scam over the years and having witnessed it being repeatedly perpetrated on others (sometimes successfully)-: I decided to try and record it happening. I managed to do so with this entertaining if somewhat educational warning video.
This is a warning to folks planning on visiting Paris. Don't fall for this street scam!

ploy to fleece money out of me
as a 'dumb tourist'.
In the spirit of the BBC 'The Real Hustle' TV
series this video's purpose is to help folks
not fall for this scam. The full explanation
about it requires a brief minute or two
of patience but the funny lesson learned
from this captured example is worth it.
This wоmаn was attempting
to scam me out of money by
pretending to find a well polished man's
gold wedding band near me.
For many years now each summer
in Paris, France scammers from certain
Rоmа communities come to prey upon
unsuspecting tourists, particularly those
walking along the banks of the river Seine.
There are a number of minor scams
they use but one of the more
frequently perpetrated is the
found men's gold wedding band scam.
This is how it typically works:
Tourists will be walking along
the Seine or in another heavily
touristed spot and suddenly someone
nearby (typically of a Rоmа persuasion)
will bend down to feign finding a man's
shiny gold wedding band on the ground.
Typically a scammer will play as though
they're a bit slow but with a ready bogus
excuse about why they can't keep the
ring. Either their religion prohibits
it or some other fairly ridiculous excuse
(e.g.: My husband would be jealous!).
They'll offer and then give the ring to a
'lucky' tourist and pretend as though
they're going to walk away but then turn
around and ask for something in return
hoping that either greed or compassion
on the tourist's part will take hold and
they'll give the scammer some money
in exchange for the valuable 'gold' ring
they've just received. In reality it is just a
worthless fake ring the scammer pulls out
of their pocket and places on the ground.
These scammers have pockets
full of such rings. They're made
out of cheap metal with shiny brass
plating. They'll spend their entire day
'finding' ring after ring.
I know this because over the years on days
I've been out to take photos several have
tried it on me, one after another, as I've sat
for hours on the river banks recording time
lapse images. From a distance I've also seen
scammers trying it on others over and over.
One day as a challenge I decided to see
if I could record the scam being perpetrated.
Having had several scammers come to
me I noted a certain consistency in
their appearance, #1 being each was
seemingly walking alone.
I then kept a look out for individuals
matching this appearance who'd be
walking towards my position. When I'd
spot someone I would quickly begin to
use a touristy point-and-shoot camera
in video mode and pretend to be a
tourist recording the beautiful Parisian
scenery. When I'd be approached I'd just
act natural and turn around to 'innocently'
interact with the scammer while continuing
to record so they'd not question my
making a recording of our interactions.
What follows is the best
exchange I've caught so far.

On Day 21 of our Round The World Trip for food with Star Alliance, we spent the day in Barcelona. Barcelona is an amazing food city, and one of the best places to start eating is at La Boqueria. After eating and wandering, we headed over to Sagrada Família for a breathtaking tour. It was an amazing day of food and attractions in Barcelona.
00:34 Breakfast at Cotton House Hotel - We started off the morning at our hotel by having a quick breakfast. The jamon and selection of cured meats was the highlight.
2:53 Mercat de Sant Josep de la Boqueria - Often known in short just as La Boqueria, this historical market is a food lover's paradise and a pilgrimage destination. We arrived early in the morning and headed first to Bar Pinotxo to eat our second breakfast. I ordered an omelet with eggplant and a plate of garbanzo beans and blood sausage. The dish was simple, but it was incredibly delicious. Additionally, the coffee was extremely good. Total price - 12.80 EUR ($14.04)
6:59 El Quim De La Boqueria - After finishing with the first place of tapas, I wandered over to another legendary tapas bar within La Boqueria market known as El Quim De La Boqueria. It’s a very expensive place, but I knew I wanted to try the fried eggs with baby squid. The dish was a simple combination of ingredients, but it was cooked perfectly, and it was incredibly delicious. I also couldn’t resist a plate of fried chilies. Total price - 32.05 EUR ($35.16) There are dozens of things to eat and try at La Boqueria, and after all the salty food I was ready to have a passion fruit juice. And then finally, to conclude the Barcelona food tour of La Boqueria, I bought a cone of sliced Jamón Ibérico.
14:14 Gothic Quarter, Barcelona Cathedral - After an amazing food tour, we walked around the Christopher Columbus monument and then continued on walking around the Gothic Quarter of Barcelona. The Barcelona Cathedral was originally closed when we arrived, but I came back in a few minutes and walked around the Barcelona Cathedral as well.
16:37 Xarcutería La Pineda - Located just around the corner from the Barcelona Cathedral, I headed over to a place called Xarcutería La Pineda (recommended by Chris English), to try the botifarra blanca and a cup of vermouth. It’s an amazing little family run shop with a fantastic array of meats and drinks. Total price - 11.50 EUR
21:25 Basílica de la Sagrada Família - One of the most famous attractions in Barcelona is the Sagrada Familia, a basilica that was famous designed by Antoni Gaudi. I had read and dreamed about visiting for many years, so I was very excited to finally have the chance to visit. What amazed me is how dark and gothic it looks from the outside, yet how light and happy it is on the inside. Sagrada Familia is truly a stunning architectural feat, and an attraction you must visit in Barcelona. Along with visiting the main part of Sagrada Familia, I also bought tickets to go to the Nativity Tower. Going to the top of the tower and walking down was the highlight of visiting. Price - 29.00 EUR per person w/ tower entrance
26:16 Catalan Food for dinner at Restaurant Portolés - For dinner Ying and I walked over to Restaurant Portolés, a local Catalan food restaurant. Some of the main dishes I ordered included Fideuà and Rollitos De Pollo, all of which were delicious. It’s a great restaurant to try in Barcelona. Total price - 26.50 EUR
This was a fantastic day in Barcelona, packed with delicious food and attractions in Barcelona.

10. Apsara dancing

Sihanoukville is a seaside town featuring Cambodia's best-known beaches. Prasat Preah Vihear is a Khmer temple crowning a 525 m cliff in the Dângrêk Mountains in Cambodia, across the border from Si Saket and Kantharalak in northeastern Thailand. Located on the Eastern bank of Tonle Sap close to the Sen River, the central part of Sambor Prei Kuk is divided into three main groups. Each group is located in a square lay out surrounded by a brick wall. During the wet season the water of the Mekong River becomes so powerful, that it reverses the flow of the Tonle Sap River and pushes the surplus of rain water back into the Tonle Sap Lake.

SLocated 6 km north of Siem Reap, Angkor Wat is one of the largest of Khmer monuments.
