Top 10 Places Around the Italian Lakes
Top 10 Places Around the Italian Lakes according to DK
10. Sirmione and Southern Lake Garda
Sirmione is a comune in the province of Brescia. It is bounded by the comunes of Desenzano del Garda (Lombardy) and Peschiera del Garda in the province of Verona and the region of Veneto. It has a historical centre which is located on the Sirmio peninsula that divides the lower part of Lake Garda.
9. Lake Idro and the Valvestino
Lake Idro is an Italian prealpine lake of glacial origin situated largely within the Province of Brescia and in part in Trentino. The lake is surrounded by wooded mountains. The shoreline of some 24 km is shared between four communes: Idro (the frazioni Crone and Belprato), from which the lake takes its name, Anfo, Bagolino (fraz. Ponte Caffaro) and Bondone (fraz. Baitoni).
8. Bergamo
Bergamo is a pretty town of some 120,000 people nestling in the foothills of the Alps. Widely acclaimed as a city of rare beauty, Bergamo is famous for its wealth of artistic treasures and enchanting medieval atmosphere. It is a real life tale of two cities: Città Bassa, the busy and modern lower city, and Città Alta, the upper city with its rich heritage of art and history.
7. Centro Lago and its Villages
At the centre of Lake Como -- the Centro Lago -- where the three branches of the lake meet, stands Bellagio, with its pretty village centre of stepped streets
6. Verona
Verona is a cityin north-eastern Italy's Veneto region most famous as the setting for Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. Though close to the more popular tourist destination of Venice, many people consider Verona a more relaxed and pleasant place to visit. There are many tourists, but the number of tourists per square meter is lower.
5. Milan
Milan is financially the most important city in Italy. In essence, for a tourist, what makes Milan interesting compared to other places is that the city is truly more about the lifestyle of enjoying worldly pleasures: a paradise for shopping, football, opera, and nightlife. Milan remains the marketplace for Italian fashion -- fashion aficionados, supermodels and international paparazzi descend upon the city twice a year for its spring and autumn fairs.
4. Como
Como has always been an area of intense activity, as it has acted over the centuries as a crossing point between Central Europe and the Mediterranean. Built by the Romans at the end of the Piedmont road, it was an important communication point between Rome and its northern territories. In more recent times Como became famed for its silk.
3. Orta San Giulio
Orta San Giulio is a town and comune in the Province of Novara in the Italian region of Piedmont, located about 100 km northeast of Turin and about 40 km northwest of Novara. The town itself is built on a promontory which juts out from the eastern bank of Lake Orta close to Isola San Giulio, an island which also falls within the municipal boundaries.
2. Northern Lake Maggiore
With a length of 68 km and a coastline of over 150 km the glacial Lake Maggiore stretches from the Swiss canton Ticino in the north into the two major Italian regions Piedmont and Lombardy. Since the climate is mild year-round, the area is filled with Mediterranean vegetation and exotic plants. Surrounded by beautiful lake shore towns and villages with lush botanical gardens, amazing islands and a backdrop of Swiss mountain peaks the Lake Maggiore has become a top tourist destination, mainly for central and northern Europe tourists.
1. Isola Bella
Isola Bella (lit. 'beautiful island') is one of the Borromean Islands of Lago Maggiore in north Italy. The island is situated in the Borromean Gulf 400 metres from the lakeside town of Stresa. Isola Bella is 320 metres long by 400 metres wide and is divided between the Palace, its Italianate garden, and a small fishing village.

INCREDIBLE HOLIDAY ON LAKE COMO - Italy travel guide video
Looking for an incredible holiday in Italy? Lake Como is literally one of the most beautiful places to travel to, so take a look in my Lake Como video guide all about the lake and hiking in the surrounding mountain range.
This part of Italy is packed with alleyways and waterside towns to get lost in, ferry rides across the lake, eating incredible Italian food and of course, mountain hiking and trekking in the Swiss and Italian Alps (which is only an hour away). These for us were the best parts of Lake Como.
It's an insane place to explore for those who are looking to discover a truly native side of Italy with few tourists, epic scenery and beautiful towns and villages.
We stayed in a quiet village called Civenna, which is just a 10-minute drive from Bellagio and the ferry port we used to travel across the other side to head to the Alps.
I got some amazing drone footage as well of outstanding views, and photos for my blog.
We were there for 9 days before we headed back to Milan to get our flight back.

Best app to navigate Italian trains - Trenit
ttps://itunes.apple.com/us/app/trenìt-find-trains-in-italy/id1058908183?mt=8
Probably one of the most romantic places on earth is Lake Como (Como Lago) It is absolutely amazing, everywhere you go you have breathtaking views.
It is very easy to get to from Malpensa airport in Milan. You can either take a taxi for aprox 150Euros or save a bundle with the train and ferry. I chose the train and it couldnt have been easier. In terminal 1, I followed the sighns for the train which brought me to their ticket counter. I just told them where I wanted to go and they gave me my tickets. The fastest was to Como Lago is with a stop in Sarrona. This train runs aprox every 20 minutes and is around a 20 minute ride. Then you will grab the Como Lago train, which runs less often, and is an aprox 43 minute ride, ending in Como. I found an amazing app, TRENIT, just search for it in your app store. This app will show you all options for trains as well as platform information. This was awesome because I only had 2 minutes to change trains or I would have to wait for the next one which was 1-2 hours later. So since I knew that I would be arriving on platform 2 and departing on platform 4, I was able to run and made it perfectly. There are plenty of awesome places to stay right there in como, or head to one of the other lake villages. I stayed at Tremezzo, which is just across from Bellagio so I grabbed the ferry. They have the fast ferry with inside seating which only takes about 43 minutes, they also offer the slow ferry, with inside and outside seating. This one takes much longer because it stops at each village on its way.
Once in Tremezzo, I stayed at the Grand Hotel Tremezzo, which was AMAZING!!! after I got situated I bought a ferry day pass for only 15EURs which takes you between Lenno, Tremezzo, Bellagio, Varrena and Menaggio. Get off and on as much as you want.
Bellagio is ine of the favorites for most vacationers, but I fell in love with Varrena. You can hike up to the top of the mountain and visit Castela de Vesio, also explore Villa Monestero which offers amazing gardens and views.

Lake Como Day Trip from Milan
Lake Como (Lago di Como) is one of the most famous lake destinations in Italy, about one hour drive from Milan. It is comprised of a number of small islands so you can island-hop and visit some of them easily on a daytrip. It is so picturesque you'll fall in love with the surrounding mountains and lakeside views.
We visited some of the smaller islands, Tavernolo, Cernobbio and Torno which turned out to be beautiful places to visit, explore and feed some ducks.
Lake Como, Italy and Lugano Switzerland in 30 minutes, travel vlog
Hi all, if you live in the city this is the one place where you should get away! It's rustic, the word instant doesn't exist as things take time. A place where you fall in love with the food the weather and the scenery.
I went to Lake Como in Italy, where celebrities Like George Clooney and Richard Branson reside and Vegas copied the Bellagio.
A 30 minute train ride away well have you swapping Italy for Switzerland and Pasta for Chocolate!
Hotel Glavjc is outstanding for its friendliness, the views and the food.
The views from the bedrooms and their balconies are superb and the food was beautiful.
