TRIP TO CUSCO PERU - TOP THINGS TO SEE - VLOG
Cusco is the historic capital of the Inca Empire. In 1983, Cusco was declared a UNESCO World Heritage site and has become a major tourist destination, attracting over 2 million visitors per year. In this vlog, we cover the Incan archaeological sights and the Spanish Colonial historic sights.
Our Peru Tour:
We travel from Lima to Cusco with Latin Escapes Tours. Cusco has a high altitude of about 11,000 feet. The first day we rested and sipped the local remedy, coca tea to adjust to Cusco's high altitude.
Our city tour of the Inca Royal City of Cusco starts in the very impressionable Central Square, known as the Plaza de Armas, which is surrounded by a beautiful stone arcade. Plaza de Armas is also the city's center point for activity, including performances, music, and fútbol parades.
In the Plaza is the Cathedral, which is exceptional because of its contrasts of styles. The first cathedral built in Cusco is the Iglesia del Triunfo, built in 1539 and the basilica was constructed using the stone extracted from the blocks of Incan fortress Saksaywaman.
The Church of the Society of Jesus, (commonly known as the Jesuits), was constructed in 1576 and its main altar is made of carved wood covered with gold leaf.
The Covent of Santo Domingo was built above the most important Inca Temple, the Temple of the Sun, or Koricancha, as it was known in the Inca language Quechua. Gold laminas or sheets covered the original Inca Temple walls.
Near the City of Cusco, you will visit the extraordinary Inca Fortress Sacsayhuaman, made up of three gigantic terraces, superimposed in a zigzag form, and surrounded by enormous walls of rock, some of which are up to 300 meters in length.
Qenqo, was a religious center formed by a singular flowering of calcareous rock. It has underground galleries and a semicircular amphitheater with a series of stone seats.
Puca Pucará or the Red Fort was military base made up of stone stairways, terraces, and walls. Nearby is Tambomachay, well known as Baths of the Incas, a place dedicated to the cult of the water, formed by aqueducts, channels and small cascades worked in the rock.
We visit Museo de Arte Precolombino which has an impressive collection of indigenous crafts, jewelry, and ceramics drawn from all regions of pre-Columbian Peru.

PUNO, PERU | Things to do at 12,500 feet up!
Puno was one of our favorite spots on our Peruvian trip! With only 150,000 people, it's small enough to not feel cramped like a big city, but large enough to have great sights and food.
We began our day at 12,500 feet up by struggling with some altitude sickness. Once we found a delicious cafe just outside Plaza de Armas, we began to perk up!
After a quick pitstop at our AirBnb, we ventured even higher in elevation to Mirador El Condor which has a gorgeous overview of the city and Lake Titicaca.
Then we returned to central Puno and enjoyed a tasty lunch with a great view. Several Coca de Mates may have been consumed as well!

The lake Titikaka is the highest navigable lake in the world!
There you can find tribù isolated in the lake in the Uros Island, where a population with the same name lives on floating islands!
40km from Puno there are the rests of a very fascinating pre-inca and inca cemetery in Sillustani tombs!

Magical Peru #18: Travelling by Bus From Puno to Cusco [Part 1 of 2]
Magical Peru:
Please watch the second part of this bus trip here
We woke up very early in Puno to hop on a Cruz del Sur bus heading to Cusco!
It is a touristic service so we stopped a few times in small towns and archaeological sites, and the bus trip took the whole day.
The first stop was on Pukará (or Pucará), a little but ancient pueblo, with a 2,400 years-history.
A couple of hours later we stopped by the border between the departments of Puno and Cusco, at 4,338 meters above sea level.
On the next video we pass by the Inca ruins of Rachi and the San Pedro de Andahuaylillas, the Sistine Chapel of the Americas, before arriving in Cusco!
Puno is in southeastern Peru, located on the shore of Lake Titicaca. It is the capital city of the Puno Region and the Puno Province with a population of approximately 100,000. The city was established in 1668 by viceroy Pedro Antonio Fernández de Castro as capital of the province of Paucarcolla with the name San Juan Bautista de Puno. Puno has several churches dating back from the colonial period; they were built to service the Spanish population and evangelize the natives. Lake Titicaca (Spanish: Lago Titicaca) is a lake in the Andes on the border of Peru and Bolivia. By volume of water, it is the largest lake in South America. It is often called the highest navigable lake in the world, with a surface elevation of 3,812 m (12,507 ft).
Cusco (often spelled Cuzco) is in southeastern Peru, near the Urubamba Valley of the Andes mountain range. It is the capital of the Cusco Region as well as the Cuzco Province. In 2007, the city had a population of 358,935. Located on the eastern end of the Knot of Cuzco, its elevation is around 3,400 m (11,200 ft). Cusco was the site of the historic capital of the Inca Empire and was declared a World Heritage Site in 1983 by UNESCO. It is a major tourist destination and receives almost 2 million visitors a year. It is designated as the Historical Capital of Peru by the Constitution of Peru.
When we first arrived in Peru, we spent a couple of weeks studying Spanish in Lima (please watch the vlog Living in Lima) then we headed to the North of Peru and visited Trujillo, Chiclayo and some archaeological sites, such as tombs, pyramids and ancient cities. On the South of Peru, our first stop was in Arequipa, and then we headed to Chivay and its thermal pools (La Calera hot springs) and the Colca Canyon, to do a canyon tour. Now, we go to the country side: Puno, Lake Titicaca, Cusco, Machu Pichu and so on...
On the next video we continue our journey to Cusco, but not before visiting the Inca ruins of Rachi and the San Pedro de Andahuaylillas, the Sistine Chapel of the Americas!
Brasileiro no Peru --

Inka Express Tourist Bus from Cusco to Puno
Traveling with Inka Express tourist bus from Cusco to Puno. Mark and I wanted to visit Puno before we crossed the border to Bolivia. You can travel by train and public bus transportation from Cusco to Bolivia. The public bus only takes 5-6 hours, but picks up passengers along the way. We wanted to see more of Peru along the way, but in a more organized manner. We decided to take a tourist bus as our mode of transportation.
When we visited there were 2 tourist bus traveling back and forth from Cusco to Puno. There's the Inka Express and Tourismo Mer companies. You can buy the tickets online. We chose the Inka Express bus. We met in the office early morning and boarded ont he bus. There's a restroom and snacks and beverage was provided. There was a total of 6 stops planned.
We stopped at church of San Pedro Apostol de Andahuaylillas, another church, Wiracocha temple, Buffet lunch, La Raya, and Pukara.
