Alfriston to Eastbourne - South Downs Way - Weekend Walk 41
For the final stage of the 100-mile SDW, I took the Coastal Route from the downland village of Alfriston, through the Cuckmere valley, across the Seven Sisters Country park with its bright white cliffs, via Birling Gap, up to Beachy Head before leaving the downs, descending into Eastbourne and it's seafront promenade. A thoroughly enjoyable last twelve miles - a classic!

Weekend Walk 19 - Selborne
From the village of Selborne in Hampshire, up the Zig-Zag path to Selborne Common, leaving on the west side across to Wick Hill, then back to the village via Long Lythe
SWC Free Walk 108, Burgess Hill to Hassocks. 18/9/11.
Nearly 17 miles of walking through the West Sussex countryside incorporating both the Sussex Border Path and The South Downs Way.
The walker initially follows a path next to the railway line towards Hassocks before branching off across a local park. Thereafter, there's a climb past a water tower before joining the Sussex Border Path for the walk to Ditchling for lunch.
The afternoon section begins with an ascent to Ditchling Beacon for a walk along the South Downs way before the descent into Pyecombe; there's a further climb from there up to Wolstonbury Hill before another descent down to Hurstpierpoint and the journey back to Hassocks.
A delightful day's walking that is full of variety.

Part 1 -- I've be showing Highlights of my walk of the Coastal footpath from Start of the South Downs Way runs along Cliffs at Beachy Head on to Birling Gap on over the famous Seven Sisters Cliffs then Cuckmere Haven river walk via Exceat to Village of Alfriston.
Then I walk the Circular walk from Alfriston, passing the famous Long Man of Wilmington, Britain’s largest chalk figure Bottom Coombe Hill on to the village of Jevington back to Eastbourne. My next video of the Highlights Part 2 of The South Downs way will start the main walk from of Alfriston. The path climbs onto the downs offering stunning views all along South Downs Way to the famous beauty spot of Devil’s Dyke. The suburbs of Brighton UK you see that in my Part 2 video a follow up to Part 1 Seven Sisters cliffs. It offers spectacular views of Cuckmere Haven, Belle Tout and Beachy Head lighthouses.
This classic cliff-top walk – one of the finest coastal walks in England – affords stunning (and very famous) views of the white cliffs of the Seven Sisters, and the renowned Beachy Head, The Seven Sisters is the name for the undulating cliffs between Cuckmere Have and Birling Gap.
They are thought to have been formed by glacier meltwater at the end of the last Ice Age: the meltwater carved steep sided valleys, which were then truncated by sea erosion into the cliffs we see today.
Between Cuckmere Haven and Birling Gap, you pass over eight hills in all – Haven Brow, Short Brow, Rough Brow, Brass Point, Flagstaff Point, Flat Hill, Baily’s Hill and Went Hill. So which one is not a real sister? Belle Tout is a former lighthouse that first entered service in 1828, over 130 years As you head upto the coast the scenery changes with grasslands full of wild flowers and after the climb up Devils Dyke
On a clear day you could spot paragliders and buzzards sharing the thermals above you South Downs Way I walk in 2012 Starting from Eastbourne to, you get an early chance to walk across the famous chalk cliffs Seven Sisters. Then up through the rolling downs, past villages and towns. You finish at ancient Town of Winchester, and it's Cathedral.

The picturesque villages to Winchester City at the finish great experience the outstanding places of natural beauty. And there was a rich diversity of wildlife all along the walk. That’s what made the walk more interesting and well worthwhile. Been a wonderful experience the whole walk and the views was stunning. been through beautiful picturesque villages and stunning scenery all along the walk.
One hundred miles of chalk downland walking separate the Cathedral city of Winchester, the ancient Saxon Capital of Wessex and England, from the Victorian seaside resort of Eastbourne. Stretching over a rare, large Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the South Downs Way follows ancient tracks along the chalk escarpment and ridges of the South Downs the white chalky cliffs of the Seven Sisters and Beachy Head.
Rolling hills dominate the West section of the walk as you pass through traditional villages with friendly country Inns. Mixed woodland walking, and views as far as the Isle of Wight can be seen from Butser Hill, the highest section of the trail. Steeped in history there are ancient hill-forts, barrows, a Roman road and deserted medieval villages.
Walk amongst vibrant yellow fields of corn, follow picturesque chalk cliffs and admire traditional thatched cottages with colourful English Gardens on this walk in Southern England.
