Last year in December my family went on holidays to Afrika.My grandsons and their parents spent two weeks on Sal Island -CAPE VERDE,having a great time!They also brought a lot of film material of this beautiful place!All videos will be uploading on YT in February,so please enjoy watching!Amnas2011
Sal is an island in Cape Verde. It belongs to the northern group of islands, called Barlavento (windwards), and comprises a single administrative division, the Sal municipality. The island is home to Amílcar Cabral International Airport, the main airport of Cape Verde.
The island was discovered on December 3, 1460 and named Llana until salt deposits were found. Sal is the geologically oldest island in Cape Verde, formed 50 million years ago during the eruption of a volcano which is now inactive.
The island is 35 km long by 12 km wide. It is one of the three sandy eastern islands (Sal, Boa Vista and Maio) of the archipelago, with white sandy beaches and fairly flat. The highest elevation of 408 m is at Monte Grande. Serra Negra has a height of 92 m.

Republika Zielonego Przylądka (port. Cabo Verde, República de Cabo Verde) – państwo wyspiarskie na Oceanie Atlantyckim, położone 620 km na zachód od zachodnich wybrzeży Afryki, geograficznie tożsame z Wyspami Zielonego Przylądka wraz z wodami terytorialnymi.
Wyspy Zielonego Przylądka stanowią archipelag położony w środkowej części Oceanu Atlantyckiego, 620 km na zachód od wybrzeży Afryki, na wysokości Przylądka Zielonego. Archipelag ten składa się z 10 głównych wysp i 16 mniejszych wysepek. Dzielą się one na dwie grupy: Wyspy Zawietrzne (Ilhas de Barlavento) i Podwietrzne (Ilhas de Sotavento). Wyspy Zawietrzne to położone na północy wyspy: Santo Antao, Sao Vicente, Santa Luzia, Sao Nicolau, Sal i Boa Vista. Wyspy Podwietrzne leżą na południu, są to Maio, Santiago, Fogo i Brava. Wnętrza wysp są górzyste z najwyższym szczytem Pico – 2829 m n.p.m. Wyspy zajmują powierzchnię 4033 km2. Wszystkie, oprócz wyspy Santa Luzia, są zamieszkane. Główne miasta: (stan na 1 stycznia 2005 r.): Praia – 113 364 mieszkańców, Mindelo – 70 611 mieszkańców, Santa Maria – 17 231 mieszkańców, Assomada – 9488 mieszkańców, Sao Filipe – 8189 mieszkańców.

There is an ancient laurel forest which you can visit for free.
We were lucky to visit Fanal once on a sunny day and once with low clouds.
