    The Masungi Georeserve is the first conservation project in the Philippines situated in the Southern Sierra Madre range in Baras, Rizal, 47 kilometres east of Manila. In 1993, the Masungit Rock and its vicinity was proposed to be declared as a Strict Nature Reserve and Wildlife Sanctuary by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources. Ten years later, it became a protected landscape in accordance to Proclamation No. 412. It is being managed by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources and the Rizal Provincial Government.
