Rodrigues Island, a small island in the Indian Ocean, may be off the beaten track, but there are plenty of things to keep the adrenaline junky happy. Hop on a motorcycle and take a tour out of Port Mathurin after exploring the local markets, and drive around the island to experience the sights and sounds! Take kitesurfing lessons where Lesson 1 is how to control the kite, and lesson 2 is to see how much salt water you can drink. Walk with the giant tortoises at Francois Leguat Tortoise Reserve. Try the zip line or bungy jump at the Tyrolieene Suspension bridge. Or just sit back and watch the kite surfers , eat some scrumptious creole dishes, and watch a traditional dance performance complete with traditional Rodrigues accordion music at the Morouk Ebony Hotel or Cotton Bay Hotel. There are hiking trails all over the island and caves to explore too! This island has something for everyone, and it was one of our most favorite stops in the entire Indian Ocean aboard our sailboat Brick House

The Mourouk Ebony Hotel must have the best place on the planet to learn kitesurfing, and some of the best creole food we had on Rodrigues Island. The buffet dinner and traditional music and dancing performance only happens a few times a week so be sure to ask. This is also the location of the International Kitesurfing Festival each year. The Francois Leguat Tortoise Reserve and surrounding caves were on the pricey side, but a must see to visit while you are there. You hike through trails accompanied with a guide who shows you all of the plants and animals of Rodrigues. For a few dollars extra you can visit some cave systems. Lunch is additional but quite tasty here. The website is here:

2014-01-02 -- Cyclone Bejisa vs Caudan & Mekong River + Tornado formation
Feat: I actually pulled an all-nighter on this one... Started at 19h02 right after the Sabbath ended and worked almost non-stop till 07h12 which is when I'm uploading this now... that's 12 hours straight!
Good thing I did sleep a lot through the Sabbath day... but I do feel like my eyes need to close for a few hours... already feeling quite uncomfortable... I guess the hardest part in the making of this video was to cut 30mins of footage down to only 6 because the music I had chosen only lasted that long... but I ended up fiddling with the music and extending it to 11+mins... And btw if you're wondering, it's Still by Hillsong, I thought it was most appropriate because of the wordings of the song...
Another copyrighted material I should point out in this video is the satellite animation at the beginning... I got this from Cyclones.fr... I searched the site for a contact me link or an email, but couldn't find any...
Now Cyclone Bejisa: We didn't feel much of it here in Mauritius... I must say that it was quite mild as experienced here... but that is because it didn't come very close... and I'm sure Mauritians are thankful for that... I have experienced big cyclones when I was younger, the most notable of them being Hollanda... which wreaked quite a bit of a havoc in several places of the island...
The information on Mekong River is from marinetraffic.com... There's the option to upload a photo of the ship, which I'm planning to do soon :D
I wonder what the Hazard A material is in our case... petroleum, may be? Good thing those ships are built to withstand those storms...
The last footage shows what looks like a tornado formation which is reabsorbed by the mother cloud... I actually filmed two such tornado formations two weeks ago, but they weren't completely formed so I didn't care to post... but this one here doesn't look too bad... does it?
Oh btw, who noticed the motorcycle plate? 2014 Y? I guess the dude must be quite happy this year :D

11h28 Edit: Woke up at 11h09 - t'was an 'excited' sleep like my conscious mind wouldn't let go and kept waiting till the vid got uploaded... So i finally got up after some 4 hours ... and first thing i did was re-watched the video - and it hits me: The title should have been Bejisa 2ND January 2014... but here it lies in plain sight: 1st January 2014... ARRRGH...this means Re-encoding... TWICE - (40 mins) + re-uploading (4h+) ... and the upload just completed right now...
I think i'm just gonna let go... cause the mistake occured cause the first image (on which the date appears) probably really is from the 1st of January... hence the mix up... i guess that's what happens when you pull an all-nighter... And it's not all that bad cause the cyclone was really here on both the 1st and 2nd January - we were Class2 on both days... Except that the videos were taken on the 2nd of Jan...
But Anyway, I'm not wasting 5h... I'm just sharing the link...

Mauritius round the island road trip
After a week of kiting at Le Morne we head to the North of Mauritius for a change of scenery and a bit of a break. This video is just of our drive there and not terribly exciting BUT stay tuned as the following videos will show us visit some landmarks and sights around the north as well as attend the Port Louis horse racing at the famous Champ de Mars Racecourse plus some scuba diving!!
