Mama Gertie's Hideaway Campground Review
We had an amazing week at Mama Gertie's Hideaway Campground in Swannanoa, NC, near Asheville. In this video, we review the campground from bottom to top, and show all of the fun things there are to do in the area.
Mama Gertie's provides awesome views of the mountains, yet is conveniently located near I-40, which makes getting to local attractions easy... leaving time to come back to camp and enjoy the amazing sunsets.
We were fortunate enough to get one of the four sites with a deck, swing and porch furniture. The view was amazing. I was able to fly my DJI Spark drone right off the deck for some spectacular photos and aerial footage.
Make sure you watch the video to the end, where we talk about nearby attractions such as the Biltmore Estate, Black Mountain, the Blue Ridge Parkway, Chimney Rock and Catawba Falls.

Blue Ridge Adventures is proud to present the 5th annual Looking Glass Tour. The 100-mile ride begins in downtown Brevard, North Carolina. From there, cyclists will make their way through the scenic, rolling farmlands of the French Broad River valley toward Cedar Mountain and the Connestee community where the first of five rest stops are located. At Mile 17, the first King of the Mountain challenge will be reached as riders push their way over short but steep climbs toward the town of Rosman. After reaching Rosman, riders will gear up for the long climb up U.S. Highway 215 toward the second rest stop, which comes around mile 32 and just before the first hard climb to the small town of Balsam Grove. The second King of the Mountain challenge is a six-mile-long climb with up to 14% grades of elevation culminating at the Blue Ridge Parkway where the third rest stop awaits.
Once past the Blue Ridge Parkway, riders plunge down a fast 11-mile descent to Lake Logan. After some rolling country roads the route winds into the town of Cruso where rest stop four awaits at mile 73.5. After leaving the rest stop riders will roll out a few gentle miles to begin their third and final King of the Mountain Challenge. The final large climb makes its way up the three-mile pitch back up to the Blue Ridge Parkway. From there, riders will descend 10 miles through the heart of the Pisgah National Forest, passing notable landmarks like the Cradle of Forestry, Looking Glass Rock, Sliding Rock and Looking Glass Falls along the way.
The final rest stop comes at mile 96 before the cyclists travel down Brevard's town pathway for 2 miles. The event ends on a series of small climbs to the flat, run out finish in downtown Brevard.
