Roudnice nad Labem is a town on the left bank of the Elbe River . It has a population of approximately 13 500 and covers an area of 16,67 km². Theresienstadt was a hybrid concentration camp and ghetto established by the SS during World War II in the fortress town Terezín, located in the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia . Theresienstadt served two main purposes: it was simultaneously a waystation to the extermination camps, and a retirement settlement for elderly and prominent Jews to mislead their communities about the Final Solution. Bohemian Switzerland , also known as Czech Switzerland, is a picturesque region in the north-western Czech Republic. It lies on the Czech side of the Elbe Sandstone Mountains north of Děčín on both sides of the Elbe River. It extends eastward into the Lusatian Mountains and westward into the Ore Mountains. Its highest elevation is the mountain Děčínský Sněžník at 726m above sea level. It has been a protected area since 1972. The region along the right side of the Elbe became a national park on January 1, 2000, the České Švýcarsko National Park. The National Park is adjacent to the Saxon Switzerland National Park in Germany.

Bikepacking Czech Republic - DAY 4 - Litoměřice to Mělník

On our 4th day of bikepacking across the Czech Republic, we leave Litoměřice, visit Terezín and Roudnice Nad Labem before arriving to Mělník. In Terezín we visit the 18th century Fortress and the World War 2 Holocaust Memorial(Teresienstadt). In Roudnice nad Labem we explore the Roudnice Chateau/Castle(Zámek Roudnice) that was once owned by the House of Lobkowicz (Lobkovicové), and in Mělník we try some more wines.

Kayaking in Cesky Krumlov (Czech Republic)

Renting a kayak from our hostel (Hostel 99) gave us a chance to see Cesky Krumlov in a whole new way. We loved the city on foot, but we loved it even more once we were able to see it from the water!

The unique layout of the meandering Vltava River means you can hop in the water to the south and hop out just north of the downtown area without having to take any kind of car or bus to the drop-off or pick-up points.

I highly recommend getting out on the water when you visit this beautiful little town!

On our 5th day of bikepacking across the Czech Republic, we leave Mělník, visit Valtrusy Chateau an 18th century baroque chateau and enter one of Europe's most popular cities....Prague (Praha)

Railway Journey from Dresden to Prague: Views from a Euro City Express Train - 18th December, 2011

Forward left side facing views from the International Express train between Berlin and Budapest on the Dresden to Prague leg of the journey. A significant part of this journey follows the River Elbe, which flows from the Czech Republic into Saxony and onto Hamburg. This footage includes the departure from Dresden Hauptbahnhof, the Dresden suburbs, lower Saxony including urban and (mainly) rural areas including locations such as Heidenau, Pirna and Konigstein. Footage also includes the North East Czech Republic countryside, mountains, woodland, forest, and urban areas including Decin, Malsovice, Choratice, Dobkovice, Roztoky, Povrly, Mojzir, Nestemice, Usti nad Labem, Prakovice, Lovosice, Roudnice nad Labem, Nove Ouholice, Kralupy nad Vitavou, Dolany, Podmoran, Roztoky and finally the Prague suburbs, before the train enters Prague, finishing it's journey at Prague Hlavni Nadrazi (Prague main railway station). This train was hauled by a Czech class 371 electric locomotive.

Bikepacking Czech Republic - DAY 3 - Karlovy Vary to Litoměřice

On our 3rd day of bikepacking across the Czech Republic, we leave Karlovy Vary in route to Litoměřice. First we grab a train from Karlovy Vary to Ústí nad Labem (2 hours), then we meet up with two more riders who will be guiding us fo a couple of days(Michal and Janek).
We stop to visit the Porta Bohemica Winery(Vinařství Porta Bohemica) and then to our final destination of Litoměřice. We rode along the Elbe Route / EuroVelo 7
