Russia is the fact of being a sparsely populated country: the density remains low even in areas of older population, such as Europe, with occasional clumps at the major cities and in some areas very limited as the Ciscaucasia ; this low population density does not prevent Russian landscapes to host on its territory two of the largest cities of ' Eurasia : Moscow and St. Petersburg.
The boundaries, land and sea, are obviously in line with the rest: 20,139 km of land borders, scores with fifteen different nations make the internal security one of the major problems of Russian governance. Russian landscapes are for the absolute majority consists of plains and surfaces just detected, starting from the far west to reach the coast of the Pacific.
The plain of European Russian landscapes descend to the southeast; around the shores of the Caspian Sea, the proportion drops to 28 meters below mean sea level. Siberia represents approximately 76% of the territory of Russian landscapes, with a population density very low, being home to only 28% of the population of Russian landscapes.
Caspian depression is an arid area: already downstream of Volgograd, the left bank of the Volga is occupied by arid steppe. Although the Russian authors, traditionally distinguished in the Russian landscapes is a desert and a semi-desert, in the strict sense a real desert in Russia is not observed; even in the most dry precipitation allow the development of a grassland, however poor.
The western parts of Russian landscapes that lie within Europe, and comprising approximately 3,960,000 square kilometers, accounting for 40% of all Europe and 25 % of one's country, which makes it the largest European continent nation. Its eastern border is defined by the Ural Mountains and in the south, on the border with Kazakhstan and the Caucasus still further south. This area includes Moscow and St. Petersburg, the two largest cities of Russian landscapes.
With an extension of 9,288 kilometers, linking Moscow to the Pacific coast of Russian landscapes, more precisely Vladivostok. Much of the inland lakes of Russian landscapes are considered a legacy of the intense glaciation that covered the territory. In Russian landscapes there is a decent variety of climates.
As already mentioned, Russia is an underpopulated country, especially in its eastern part; also, natural movements of the population mean that Russia posters for the past fifteen years a significant decrease in population. The tundra is characterized by vast empty spaces; the settlements are small and very scattered in space, with the exception of the few mining towns built by the Russians. The indigenous population of the Russian Arctic areas amounts, nowadays, to not more than a few hundreds of thousands of people scattered throughout the northern strip of the Russian landscapes: the ethnic groups present today are Nenets.
The other Russian landscapes are the most populated and vital, even if the density remains low: the European side density ranging between 20 and 50 inhabitants / km². Despite the large area that Russian landscapes have only 18% of the territory covered by water. Count up 120,000 rivers, among which are the Volga, the Don, the Yenisei, the Lena, the Ob, the Dnieper and the Neva.
The lakes are presented irregularly shaped and are usually in the middle of a course of a river. The Russian landscapes includes the Lake Ladoga, which is the largest in Europe, the Baikal, the Onega, among others. Russian landscapes dominate almost half of Europe and a third of Asia. This factor makes Russia has several different climates. The average annual temperature is the cold of 5 ° C.
Summer in Russian landscapes also varies from region to region, registering average temperatures of 25 ° C. In some extreme cases, there have been days on which recorded temperatures above 45 ° C. The cold from Siberia spreads not only throughout Russian landscapes as for most of the whole of Europe and much of Asia. Russian landscapes are crossed by four climates: arctic, subarctic, temperate and subtropical. The stations can be characterized as follows: winter long and snowy, spring tempered, summer short and warm and autumn rainy. These characteristics, however, vary widely by region. In central Russian landscapes, are lighter, mixed forests dominated by birch, poplar, oak. The forests of central areas are divided by steppes. Most of the steppes is tilled and sown with wheat, rye, corn, sunflower, etc.

Adventure Mountains in Russia

Russia is the world's largest country and spans almost the entire northern super continent of Eurasia : occupies Northern Asia (1/3 of the continental total) and eastern Europe -respectively, 74.7% and 25.3% of its territory. It is separated from the American continent by the Bering Strait. Because of its size, Russia displays both monotony and diversity and as its geography, climate, vegetation and soil cover large distances.
Located in the northern and middle latitudes of the northern hemisphere, most of the Russian Federation is much closer to the North Pole that of Ecuador. In a country comparisons are of little value, but not in Russia with its huge size and diversity. The border of the Russian Federation is the longest in the world and is a major source of concern for national security in the post-Soviet era period. Throughout the 20,139 kilometers of land border, Russia has borders with fourteen countries, eight of which did not exist as countries until the early 1990. Furthermore, in its northeast end, only eighty-six kilometers of the Bering Strait separating Russia fifteenth neighbor, the United States.
The East European Plain covers much of European Russia. The West Siberian Plain, which is the world's largest, stretches eastward from the Urals to the Yenisei River. Because the terrain and vegetation are relatively uniform in each of the natural areas, Russia presents an illusion of uniformity. However, the Russian territory has representation from all major vegetation zones in the world, except for the rain forest.
The Ural Mountains are the best-known mountain range in the country, because they form the natural border between Europe and Asia. The mountain range stretches some 2,500 km from the northern border of Kazakhstan to the Arctic Ocean. 68% of the Ural mountains in Russia, while the remaining 32% belongs to Kazakhstan. Geographers have traditionally divided the Urals into five regions: South, East, North, Subarctic and Arctic. The tree line drops from 1400 meters to sea level as it advances northward.
In the mountain range west of Lake Baikal, in the south-central Siberia, the highest elevations are 3,300 m in the western part of the Sayan mountains, 3,200 m in the eastern part of the Sayan, and the 4,506 m of Mount Belukha in the Altai Mountains. The Eastern Sayan comes close to the southern shore of Lake Baikal; on the lake, there is a difference in elevation of more than 4,500 m from the nearest mountain, 2,840 meters high, and the deepest part of the lake, which is 1,700 m below sea level. The mountain ranges east of Lake Baikal are lower, forming a complex of lower wisdom teeth and valleys ranging from the lake to the Pacific coast. The maximum height is given in the Stanovoi mountains (Mount Skalisty, 2,482 m), extending from west to east, from the north of Lake Baikal to the Sea of Okhotsk. South of this mountain range is southeastern Siberia, whose mountain peaks reach 800 m. Crossing the Strait of Tartary is the island of Sakhalin, whose highest point is Mount Lopatin (1,609 m).
The truly alpine terrain appears in the southern mountains of the Caucasus, between the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea, the natural border between Europe and Asia, with stunning heights, a great, almost insurmountable geographical barrier, with few steps between Russia and its neighbors Southwest, Georgia and Azerbaijan. It is a great mountain range located between the river basins of Kuban and Terek River in northern Anatolia, and Iran river to the south.
Northeastern Siberia, north of the Stanovoy range, is a very mountainous region. The long peninsula of Kamchatka, reaching south to the Sea of Okhotsk, includes many volcanic peaks, some of them still active. The higher the Kliuchevskoi (4750 m), the highest point in the Russian Far East. The volcanic chain continues from southern Kamchatka end southward through the Kuril Islands chain and Japan. Kamchatka is also one of the two centers of seismic activity in the Russian Federation.
Most of the Russian Federation consists of two plains -the East European Plain and the West Siberian Plain - two lowlands -the North of Siberia and Kolyma, in the northeast corner of Siberia two plateaus, the Central Siberian Plateau and Lena plateau.

The Beautiful Caspian Sea
he Caspian Sea is the largest inland body of water in the world and accounts for 40 to 44% of the total lacustrine waters of the world.[15] The coastlines of the Caspian are shared by Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Russia, and Turkmenistan. The Caspian is divided into three distinct physical regions: the Northern, Middle, and Southern Caspian.[16] The Northern–Middle boundary is the Mangyshlak Threshold, which runs through Chechen Island and Cape Tiub-Karagan. The Middle–Southern boundary is the Apsheron Threshold, a sill of tectonic origin between the Eurasian continent and an oceanic remnant,[17] that runs through Zhiloi Island and Cape Kuuli.[18] The Garabogazköl Bay is the saline eastern inlet of the Caspian, which is part of Turkmenistan and at times has been a lake in its own right due to the isthmus that cuts it off from the Caspian.
Differences between the three regions are dramatic. The Northern Caspian only includes the Caspian shelf,[19] and is very shallow; it accounts for less than 1% of the total water volume with an average depth of only 5–6 metres (16–20 ft). The sea noticeably drops off towards the Middle Caspian, where the average depth is 190 metres (620 ft).[18] The Southern Caspian is the deepest, with oceanic depths of over 1,000 metres (3,300 ft), greatly exceeding the depth of other regional seas, such as the Persian Gulf. The Middle and Southern Caspian account for 33% and 66% of the total water volume, respectively.[16] The northern portion of the Caspian Sea typically freezes in the winter, and in the coldest winters ice forms in the south as well.[20]
Over 130 rivers provide inflow to the Caspian, with the Volga River being the largest. A second affluent, the Ural River, flows in from the north, and the Kura River flows into the sea from the west. In the past, the Amu Darya (Oxus) of Central Asia in the east often changed course to empty into the Caspian through a now-desiccated riverbed called the Uzboy River, as did the Syr Darya farther north. The Caspian also has several small islands; they are primarily located in the north and have a collective land area of roughly 2,000 km2 (770 sq mi). Adjacent to the North Caspian is the Caspian Depression, a low-lying region 27 metres (89 ft) below sea level. The Central Asian steppes stretch across the northeast coast, while the Caucasus mountains hug the western shore. The biomes to both the north and east are characterized by cold, continental deserts. Conversely, the climate to the southwest and

EPISODE 2 OF UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE SITES
Caspian Sea documentary
The Caspian Sea is the largest enclosed inland body of water on Earth by area, variously classed as the world's largest lake or a full-fledged sea. It is in an endorheic basin (it has no outflows) located between Europe and Asia. It is bounded to the northeast by Kazakhstan, to the northwest by Russia, to the west by Azerbaijan, to the south by Iran, and to the southeast by Turkmenistan.
