-- About this video --
Today we have a long drive from Marahau to the Nelson Lakes National Park, so we get to enjoy the changing scenery standard from a New Zealand roadtrip. We reach the beginning of the Southern Alps which means we’ve hit the beautiful Nelson Lakes National Park.
We park up at Lake Rotoiti which is just off the main state highway and half a minute drive from the town of St Arnaud. First things first, we need to get that token photo of the Lake Rotoiti Jetty!
Here, we see wildlife, especially eels (tuna in Maori) under the jetty, as well as crazy-looking ducks and swans.
We also find “the hidden” Lake Rotoiti Jetty for your viewing pleasure.
Well, there’s not much else to say about Lake Rotoiti other than there are a couple of hikes in the area should you want to go exploring more.
So what do you think of Lake Rotoiti? Is it worth a pit stop for a South Island Road Trip? Let us know!

-- About this video --
Today we are going to that other lake in the Nelson Lakes National Park, Lake Rotoroa. Yesterday, we went to Lake Rotoiti but this lake is about a 20-minute drive off the main state highway so so many backpackers miss it. But today, we’re going to show you that going to Lake Rotorua is worth getting off the beaten track for.
We arrive at the beautiful Lake Rotoroa with a jetty looking out to the mountain and lake views. There are also a number of hikes at Lake Rotoroa so we check out the Lake Rotoroa Nature Walk, which is recommended to us by a couple of Kiwi locals that we meet at the lake.
The Lake Rotoroa Nature Walk is a 20-minute walk around the beautiful beech forest with birds and isolated lake beaches.
After a hike around Lake Rotoroa, Robin realises that he needs to go to the hospital as he has an inflamed finger. We find that the medial centres and health care in New Zealand is very helpful and another example of the help from locals in New Zealand.

South Island is absolutely incredible, as Sarika says in the video it is truly 'Heaven On Earth'. We wished we could have stayed longer, but we plan to come back again and spend more time exploring. The weather gods blessed us with all seasons, especially with 'surprise' snow during this time of the year. Thank god we were well prepared !! The rain and snow made the scenery even more stunning :)
Enjoy watching our experience on this amazing island and we hope this video provides some inspiration for you to book your flights!
Catch yaa :)

Saint Arnaud, Lake Rotoiti.
Lake Rotoiti in Saint Arnaud (previously Rotoiti) is a small alpine village located in the north of New Zealand's South Island, west of the mountains of the Saint Arnaud Range.
Lake Rotoiti, previously also known as Lake Arthur, is a lake in the Tasman Region of New Zealand. It is a substantial mountain lake within the borders of Nelson Lakes National Park. The lake is fed by the Travers River, water from the lake flows into the Buller River. The lake is surrounded by Beech forest and is 82 metres deep.
Tramping tracks circle the lake, including the Lakehead track on the east side and the Lakeside track on the west side. There is a water taxi service that travels the length of the lake ferrying trampers to and from the Coldwater and Lakehead huts at the head of the lake. Rotoiti is also a popular place for waterskiing and is adjacent to Mt Robert.
The lake has introduced trout which attract recreational fishermen.

-- About this video --
Today we are driving from St Arnaud to Reefton on the West Coast of New Zealand. The drive is long through Lewis Pass but there are plenty of awesome reasons to break up the journey and makes some stops along the way. First up, it’s Maruia Falls.
Maruia Falls is just a five-minute walk from a car park off the main state highway through Lewis Pass. We get a couple of vantage points for pictures of the wide and roaring Maruia Falls. Then we are on our way through Lewis Pass.
A detour off Lewis Pass brings us to Maruia Hot Springs, some natural mineral hot pools on the West Coast. These South Island hot pools are pumped from a natural hot spring across a braided river. The Maruia Hot Pools are surrounded by stunning views of South Island mountain scenery.
We take the lunch and pool entry package, so after some lunch we are given a tour of the Maruia Hot Springs which has indoor and outdoor hot pools. We opt for the outdoor hot pools which are in a natural-looking setting. There are multiple things to try for massages from waterfalls and such.
After relaxing in the Maruia Springs for far too long, we get changed and go for a nearby walk along the river and among the West Coast South Island scenery. Just ask reception for directions.
Our final destination tonight is Reefton on the West Coast region of New Zealand.
So what do you think of Maruia Hot Springs? Would you stop here to relax in these New Zealand hot pools? Let us know in the comments.
