Canal St.Martin - Paris
Some scenes from a trip along the Canal St.Martin, Paris, on a beautiful 4th.July 2012 aboard the boat 'Marcel Carne' operated by the Canauxrama company. The journey starts at the Basin de la Villette and continues through several locks and tunnels to the
Port d L'Arsenal close to the Place de la Bastille.
Construction of the canal was ordered by Napoleon I in 1802, in order to create an artificial waterway for supplying Paris with fresh water to support a growing population and to help avoid diseases such as dysentery and cholera. By the 1960s, traffic had dwindled to a trickle and the canal narrowly escaped being filled in and paved over for a highway. Today, the canal is covered from Rue du Faubourg du Temple to the Place de la Bastille and is a popular destination for Parisians and tourists alike
St Mary's Church, Bangalore
St. Mary's Basilica is situated opposite the Russel Market Square in Shivajinagar, Bangalore. Initially, the basilica was built as a small chapel by Abbe Dubois, in the year 1818. However, later, Reverend L.E. Kleiner got it converted into an ornate Gothic style church. In 1882, St. Mary's Basilica was adorned with a large number of stained glass windows, imported from Paris. However, during World War II, these windows were removed and then again restored in the year 1947, the year of India's independence.
The Basilica has an imposing tower and gothic-style pointed arches. It was only in 1973 that Saint Marys Church of Bangalore was given the status of a Basilica, making it the sixth Basilica in India. The status was awarded through a Papal order by Pope John Paul VI. One of the major attractions of this basilica is the St Mary's Feast, held every year in the month of September. Devotees from far and wide come to Bangalore in September to attend this grand feast.

Sunny Side of Spirit - E01/03 - Ghana
After a burnout due to stress, Dutch director Sunny Bergman decided to investigate how people deal with spiritual strain and depression in countries that seem less affected by it.
Episode 1/3 - Ghana
How do people in Ghana deal with adversity, depression and death? Many Ghanaians do not know what depression is, and they certainly have no idea of what loneliness is. They live, work, sleep and eat together. If a member of the group gets depressed, it becomes a problem for the whole community, and they must find a solution together. Sunny experiences with the family of a friend that taking care of each other is also taking care of yourself in a way.
Does spirituality contribute to our mental health? Four out of ten people in the Netherlands suffer from depression, insomnia, ADHD and stress. Sunny Bergman studied how people in Ghana, Taiwan and Brazil deal with these psychological symptoms, in an often spiritual way. These 3 countries are just as modern as western countries, but there, traditional rituals are treated as powerful medicine. Does that approach work? And what is a normal mental condition anyway? There is hardly any country in the world that spends so much money on mental health care as the Netherlands. Where do all these mental problems come from? Are they diseases arising from abundance?

Anthropology of the Dutch: traditional farmers versus modern life in the Netherlands
On the Veluwe lives dwelling and conservative people. In the past, the people there lived completely isolated, the surrounding forest shielded the outside world. The people had to survive by ploughing through the poor sandy soils and for a good harvest the only think they could do was to pray God. Today, these people are rich and no longer depend on the soil: they are slowly letting go of the farm life. The outside world is constantly pushing for taking over, especially with the Internet, but also by going out and working outside the area. Urban problems are no longer avoidable.
Original Title: De Hokjesman - De Boeren
Fascinated by the prevailing pigeonhole spirit, the pigeonhole man goes on field research into the world of appealing Dutch subcultures. With a wink to the classical ethnologist, dressed in a three-piece suit with a bow tie, he analyzes the man as one of the animal groups.
