A salt evaporation pond is a shallow artificial salt pan designed to extract salts from sea water or other brines. Natural salt pans are geological formations that are also created by water evaporating and leaving behind salts. Some salt evaporation ponds are only slightly modified from their natural version, such as the ponds on Great Inagua in the Bahamas, or the ponds in Jasiira, a few kilometres south of Mogadishu, where seawater is trapped and left to evaporate in the sun. The seawater or brine is fed into large ponds and water is drawn out through natural evaporation which allows the salt to be subsequently harvested. With another small neighboring island, Aketx, they form a protected biotope that extends from the town of Bakio until Cape Matxitxako, on the Bay of Biscay.

The Museum of Human Evolution is a museum on the subject of human evolution situated on the south bank of the river Arlanzón, in the Spanish city of Burgos. It is located roughly 16 kilometres west of the Sierra de Atapuerca, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and location of some of the most important human fossil finds in the world. The museum was opened on July 13, 2010, and had received 148,045 visitors as of December 31, 2010, making it the most visited museum in Castile and León. It forms the centerpiece of the so-called Complejo de la Evolución Humana comprising a convention centre, the CENIEH research institution and the museum itself .

The National Museum and Research Center of Altamira is a center dedicated to the conservation of, research into and the sharing of information about the cave of Altamira in Santillana del Mar , named a World Heritage Site by Unesco. The museum offers prehistoric technology workshops to visitors, as well as a permanent exhibition called Times of Altamira, which contains objects from Altamira as well as those from other palaeolithic caves of Cantabria such as El Morín, El Juyo and El Rascaño. The New Altamira Cave, or Neocave, is also part of this exhibition: an artificial replica of the original caves, built in order to preserve the originals from damage arising from a massive influx of visitors.

Cultural Landscape of Valle Salado de Añana. A proyect by everyone, with everyone and from everyone

The Salt Valley of Añana (Salinas de Añana, Basque Country, Spain) is one of the most spectacular and best preserved inland saltworks. Its value not only lies in its particular architecture or on its almost 1.200 years of documented history, or even in its geological features, biodiversity or landscape values, but in the union in perfect harmony of all of it in a privileged context.

The awareness by both government and society of the importance of the Valley has led to the heritage and environmental protection of the saltworks. They have been protected on the Spanish heritage register since 1984 and are classed as a Bien de Interés Cultural; as a cultural landscape the Valley is a candidate World Heritage Site, and in 2002 it was listed under the Ramsar Convention as a wetland site of international importance.

El Valle Salado de Añana (País Vasco, España) es una de las salinas más espectaculares y mejor conservadas del mundo. Su valor no sólo reside en su arquitectura particular de terrazas imposibles construidas con piedra, madera y arcilla, o en sus características geológicas, su biodiversidad o los valores únicos de su paisaje, sino en la unión en perfecta armonía de todo ello en un contexto privilegiado.

La excepcionalidad de este paisaje cultural industrial vivo con más de 1.200 años de historia documentada, unido al proyecto de recuperación que está llevando a cabo sin ánimo de lucro la Fundación Valle Salado, hacen que las salinas sean un Monumento Histórico Nacional y estén en trámites de convertirse en Patrimonio Mundial de la UNESCO.

Añanako Gatz Harana Arabako Añana udalerrian dagoen barnealdeko gatzaga da, plano triangeluarreko haran estu baten hondoko 120.000 m² (gutxi gorabehera) hartzen dituena. Haranaren alderik garaienean dauden lau iturburutako ur gazia erabiltzen da gatza ekoizteko. Horretarako, gatzuna larrainetaraino garraiatzen da. Plataforma horietan, jalkitzen uzten da, eguzkiaren eta haizearen eraginez ura lurrundu dadin eta, hala, gatza atera dadin.
