Mohan Shakti Heritage National Park | Solan | Himachal Pradesh | 2019 | India | Travel Vlog
It’s always fun to explore the hills as you find a way to get out of that boring Monday to Friday regime and rejuvenate yourself. One such excursion began as we scrolled through Google to find a place for our weekend getaway. The place, if you would like to know was Mohan Shakti Heritage Park. We read the reviews and found the place to be really worth spending our time.
We packed our bags and started off from Chandigarh to begin our journey towards Solan. A hill station named after the Hindu deity “Mata Shoolini Devi”. Solan is a two-hour drive from Chandigarh via NH-22. For “Mohan Shakti Heritage Park” you have to reach “Hart Village” that takes a detour of 6 KM from the main highway after “Salogra” station.
The road to the heritage park is steep and treacherous. So one has to be very careful while driving past it, especially new and inexperienced city drivers.
Near around afternoon, we reached the park and the very first glance we had, mesmerised us. Being city dwellers, used to seeing only concrete buildings and tarmac roads, the site proved to be a great treat for our eyes. Located amidst hills, the location is so perfect for such a creation.
Mohan Shakti Park was built by Mohan Meakin Breweries Limited. The center attraction of the park is a grand temple where a magnificent collection of statues of Hindu Gods and Goddesses is installed. White Marble Statues located in the temple yard would surely force you to click a selfie. Lord Krishna and Arjuna statue installation over the main entrance, and the ones that we saw while climbing the stairs really stole our hearts.
Though the entire temple itself is no less than an exquisite architectural marvel, we personally loved Lord Krishna and Arjuna Statue, which reminded us of Mahabharata. We were really spellbound by every aspect of this amazing temple site.
We also came to know that an Ancient Indian Research Centre is also proposed, that would serve a great source for studying Indian Heritage. Besides, additional temples, a Meditation Centre inside a cave, a theme park, fountains and landscaped gardens with herbal plantations, a yagyashala (where hawans are carried out), and a ropeway trolley from the main highway to the site is also proposed. Moreover, an auditorium with LASER shows based on Hindu Mythology and epics of Ramayana and Mahabharata will be made. Now, what can be more exciting than this? I mean that is really cool for a hill station to serve all this at just one place.
We spent around 3 to 4 hours roaming in and around the place and the experience was really amazing. The cool breeze and the open sky, sounds of birds chirping and peacocks screaming was what served as an icing over the cake. The beauty and the climate of the place made us wanting to stay there forever. But it was time to leave, heavy-hearted.
Living these sweet moments left us aspiring to visit this place again, and WE surely will.
Until next time!

Shimla Kalka UNESCO Toy Train - Indian Railways in 4K
Shimla, Toy Train, India: The 4K video captures the major attraction in Shimla - Kalka-Shimla UNESCO Heritage Railway. The route is famous for its scenery and improbable construction. Originally 107 tunnels were built on Kalka Shimla Railway Track and 102 remain in use. The longest tunnel is at Barog. The line has 864 bridges.Steam operation of regular trains ended 1971.
The Kalka–Shimla Railway is a 2 ft 6 in (762 mm) narrow gauge railway in North-West India travelling along a mostly mountainous route from Kalka to Shimla. It is known for dramatic views of the hills and surrounding villages.
Shimla (then spelt Simla) was settled by the British shortly after the first Anglo-Gurkha war, and is located at 7,116 feet (2,169 m) in the foothills of the Himalayas. By the 1830s, Shimla had already developed as a major base for the British. It became the summer capital of British India in 1864, and was also the headquarters of the British army in India.
This route passes through a city named Solan, which is also known as mini Shimla. A festival celebrating the goddess Shoolini Devi, after which the city is named, is held each summer in June.
The route winds from the Himalayan Sivalik foothills at Kalka to several important points such as Dharampur, Solan, Kandaghat, Taradevi, Barog, Salogra, Totu (Jutogh), Summerhill and Shimla at an altitude of 2,076 meters (6,811 ft)

Kalka–Shimla Railway-
The Kalka–Shimla Railway is a 2 ft 6 in (762 mm) narrow gauge railway in North-West India travelling along a mostly mountainous route from Kalka to Shimla. It is known for dramatic views of the hills and surrounding villages. The Kalka–Shimla Railway was built in 1898. to connect Shimla, the summer capital of India during the British Raj, with the rest of the Indian rail system. At the time of construction 107 tunnels and 864 bridges, were built throughout the course of the track. The Chief Engineer of the project was H.S. Herlington.
The locomotives used during the earlier period were manufactured by Sharp, Stewart and Company, and larger locomotives were introduced which were manufactured by Hunslet Engine Company. The diesel and diesel-hydraulic locomotives were started operation in 1955 and 1970 respectively. The railway was declared a heritage by the Himachal Pradesh government in 2007, and in 2008 it became a UNESCO World Heritage Site alongwith the other Mountain Railways of India.
Stations[edit]
The route winds from the Himalayan Shivalik Hills foothills at Kalka to several important points such as Dharampur, Solan, Kandaghat, Taradevi, Barog, Salogra, Totu (Jutogh), Summerhill and Shimla at an altitude of 2,076 meters (6,811 ft).
Originally 107 tunnels were built on Kalka Shimla Railway Track and 102 remain in use. The longest tunnel is at Barog. Engineer Colonel Barog dug the tunnel from both ends and could not align them and was symbolically fined one rupee. He couldn't live with the shame and committed suicide inside the incomplete tunnel.[8] Chief Engineer H.S. Herlington later completed the tunnel with help from Bhalku, a local sadhu.
