Day in the Life of San Felipe Mexico & I Was Very Sick
After traveling to San Felipe Mexico in Baja California on the west side of the Gulf of California I'm showing you what day in the life of Mexico looks like from laundry, eating out, walking the streets of San Felipe, relaxing on the beach, visiting the Valle de los Gigantes, or Valley of the Giants just south of San Felipe. I also got very sick the first night I was there. It was pretty awful. Norovirus? Stomach flu? Montezuma's Revenge?
I enjoyed every minute of my Mexico travel in my camper van and can't wait to go back and visit more along the Baja Peninsula!

★ How I Got Started
Hi, I'm Amber and in May 2017 I started this nomadic journey after selling my house and all my belongings to pursue this crazy dream of living out of my RV full-time and traveling all around North America.
After 1 year of traveling, I sold my 26 foot Winnebago Class C RV for a more nimble Class B Hymer Aktiv van. I couldn't have been more excited to continue my second year in a van that allows me to travel to more places and experience more in life.

Things To Do in San Felipe, Baja California, Mexico
THINGS TO DO IN SAN FELIPE - Outdoor activities
3 broad categories; 1) On Land 2) On Sea 3)Airborne.
1) ON LAND FUN ACTIVITIES
As you may know, San Felipe is famous for the annual Baja 250 race. So it goes without saying that there are lots of open spaces to enjoy riding recreational vehicles such as ATV (all terrain vehicles), Quads, etc. As you drive through town, you will find several stores with ATV for rent signs. Usually these stores are close to the location for riding ATV - the most fun is when you ride these over Sand dunes. For most visitors, riding ATV for an hour is good enough, but if you plan to explore the hinterland and back country, you may want to work out a deal where you rent the ATV or Quad for an entire day.
Clamming: The extreme tides in San Felipe create unique clamming opportunities. When the tide comes in, this brings with it an assortment of shells creatures. When the tide goes out, its game on - time to go hunting and let yourself be surprised by all the interesting shell shapes you will find. Little crabs are common sight as the tide goes out and are fun to chase for little kids.
Hiking: Scanning the landscape, it is clear that there are lots of hiking opportunities. However, use caution when hiking. There are no designated hiking trails, so when you head into the mountains to hike, be sure to make use of landmarks to you remember you way back.
2) SEA BASED FUN ACTIVITIES
Para sailing: is not yet available, but there are talks to bring this in.
Fishing: San Felipe is bound to the East by the Sea of Cortez. This sea boasts an assortment of fish typesincluding yellow tail. The fish you catch depends on where you go fishing. Fishing can be done directly by the shore from high grounds such as by the light house. By far the most popular form of fishing in San Felipe are fishing day trips. You'll need to head to the Malecon early in the morning to rent a panga fishing boat. These boats can seat 8 - 10 guests, so you and your group of friends can enjoy the experience together. Some fishing boats provide the extra service of cleaning the fish onboard so your fish in grill ready as you leave the boat.
Sail boat rentals: Katamarans and sail boats can be rented in down town San Felipe at the sailing club. Rides will include a captain who sails you along the San Felipe coast giving you amazing views. A good time to go sailing is in the evening as the sun sets - this can be a very romantic experience - perhaps a good time to propose ?
Banana Boats: This is a fun activity, popular with teenagers and young adults, you've just got to try. You're basically seating on a large inflatable banana which is tied to a speed boat. This speed boat then drags the banana inflatable and its occupants, seating ontop and hanging on, across the sea. The goal is to remain seated as you get bounced across the gentle waives. Life vests are provided so it's safe. To add to the fun, lean left and right when the boat is in action and you or your friends are guaranteed to fall in the water.
Swimming in the Sea of Cortez: The geographic location of San Felipe and the Sea of Cortez makes the water warm most times of the year. So there will be no shivering when you go in the water. As a result, swimming here is a very popular and an activity to be enjoyed by the entire family. There are no sharks in the water, however, occassionally you do see dophins. The warmth of the water will tempt you to spend hours in the water, so be sure to have your sunblock to avoid sun burn. The sea currents are very mild, so there is no danger of being washed out to sea.
Trip to Konsag Island: Another sea adventure in San Felipe is taking a boat ride to Isla Konsag (Konsag Island as its known in English). Konsa Island is that piece of rock you see when you look across the Sea of Cortez on a clear day towards Puertecitos. It protroduces majestically out of the Sea into the sky. A friend used to joke that it's covered in snow - in reality, it is not snow but bird poop. Hords of birds take refuge
Availability of Scuba diving is a question that comes up a lot. As of April 2014, there is currently no known scuba diving operator in San Felipe.
3) Airborne fun things in San Felipe:
Fly in Ultra-light plane: There is perhaps no better way of capturing the beauty of San Felipe's landscape than from the air. The pattern formed by the mountain ranges can be trully appreciated from an ultra-light plane. There is no set location from which to catch a flight. However, provided you're in an open space, keep your eyes to the skies and when you see an ultra-light plane, simply signal the pilot to let him know you're interested in going on a flight. If the pilot is currently giving a tour, give it some time and he'll be back to pick you up.
