Places to see in ( Piacenza - Italy )
Piacenza is a city in Italy’s Emilia Romagna region. In its central Piazza Cavalli are 2 equestrian statues and the medieval Gothic Palace. A copper angel rotates atop the bell tower of Piacenza Cathedral. The nearby Sant’Antonino Basilica has an 8-sided tower and 17th-century frescoes, plus a portal known as Heaven’s Gate, with a rose window. The Farnese Palazzo Civic Museums house sculptures and weapons.
Located in the centre of the Padana Valley, Piacenza is on the right bank of the river Po, only 67 Km from Milan. Along the final part of the ancient Via Emilia, the town is located in the Northernmost and Westernmost part of the Emilia region. This quiet, provincial town, easy to live in and dedicated to the pleasures of good food, is also characterised by small treasures, and memories of a historically rich past, like its Cathedral, ‘Palazzo Gotico’, ‘Palazzo Farnese’. Not to mention the wonderful noble mansions, its several churches and the narrow streets of the centre, which, though appearing severe, hide unexpected surprises. Any season is good to go to Piacenza. However, we recommend spring and autumn, when the mild climate makes walking along its streets more pleasant.
Undoubtedly, besides the two squares, ‘Piazza Duomo’ and ‘Piazza Cavalli’, the latter being the emblem of the city with the two equestrian statues by Mochi on the background of ‘Palazzo Gotico’, further sites are worth visiting : the Romanesque ‘Sant’Antonino ’ Basilica, one of the pilgrims’ stations along the Via Francigena, with its ‘Porta del Paradiso’ (Heaven’s Gate), ‘ Santa Maria di Campagna’ church which preserves, among others, frescoes by Pordenone and San Savino Basilica with the 12th century mosaics representing the cycle of the months.
Among the many places to visit in the streets of the city centre, San Sisto church, hidden from sight on purpose, is rich in frescoes, wrought iron works and 18th century decorations, while the Municipal Theatre, dedicated to Verdi and built by Lotario Tomba is like a miniature ‘Teatro alla Scala’.
Another remarkable place to visit is the beautiful ‘Palazzo Farnese’, built by Vignola, where Palazzo Farnese Municipal Museums are located; here it is possible to admire the Etruscan liver, Botticelli’s Tondo, while Alberoni Art Gallery displays the famous ‘Ecce Homo’ by Antonello da Messina.
You can’t leave Piacenza without visiting Ricci Oddi Modern Art Gallery, which offers a complete view of Italian figurative art starting from the second half of the 19th century. Besides the rich Opera and Drama season at Piacenza’s Municipal Theatre, Festival del Diritto (Law Festival) , held in September, has become a nationally important event.

Rome Today: Viterbo, Italy's Piece of Heaven
(RT) -- May 31, 2010
Viterbo, Italy's Piece of Heaven
Located on the outskirts of Rome -- the city of VITERBO -- is one of the best preserved medieval towns of central Italy.
Just an hour's drive north of Rome, this ancient city was the heartland of Etruscan civilization. Followed by the Romans, who used it as a vacation spot.... Interestingly, Viterbo is also the birthplace of papal conclaves where several Popes where elected before moving to Rome. However these days, Viterbo's countryside is drawing in visitors thanks to outdoor spas that offer health benefits that date back thousands of years. Including, this one:
Le Pozze di San Sisto
Find out why it's worth visiting and do just as the Romans did.....
Reporting for Rome Today,

Trastevere, Roma - Italy 4K Travel Channel
Trastevere, the name means beyond the Tiber and describes the location of the district on the west bank of the Tiber. Narrow winding streets and hardly any traffic are the typical features of these quarters that make it particularly attractive for tourists. Archways, blind alleys, residential buildings full of corners form pretty photo motives, of which there are countless.
The high density of churches points out that it has always been this is a densely populated residential area.
We reach Trastevere across the Pons Fabricius, the Tiber Island and the Pons Cestius. There we keep to the left and through picturesque lanes we arrive at
Saint Cecilia, the patroness of musicians, died a martyr's death here. First one tried to scald her, as it miscarries, she was beheaded. Later one built this church where she was buried.
Passing the Ministero della Pubblica Istruzione (Ministry of Education), we reachSanta Maria in Trastevere and the piazza of the same name. The square forms the real center of Trastevere. Musicians, painters and sellers gather here on the restaurant-lined square which inevitably attracts the tourists.
But not only here, also in the surrounding streets you find restaurants, bars and Osterias.
Passing the Porta Septimiana we walk to Fontanone di Ponte Sisto in Piazza Trilussa. We leave Trastevere and return in the evening with Dario Andreucci, who works as a tour guide for Mind the Guide.
He sees that the church San Benedetto in Piscinula is currently open and leads us in. The church was built in the 11th century on the foundations of the dwelling house of St. Benedict. Benedict lived in the 6th century BC. In the back part of the church archaeologists came across the cell in which he lived.
The medieval church gives a good impression of the former construction, when the first three-aisles basilicas were built. The church floor is adorned with beautiful Cosmati (marble decorations). On the way to Piazza Santa Maria, he draws our attention to the Convento Dei SS. Quaranta.
We watch the hustle and bustle on the Piazza Santa Maria for a while before make our way to the hotel, where we pass the Bar San Calisto, a meeting place for writers and intellectuals.

Santa Cecilia in Trastevere
Santa Maria in Trastevere

Bar San Calisto
According to locals in the Roman neighborhood of Trastevere, Bar San Calisto serves up the best espresso around - and I agree! If you check this place out, be open to a huge dollop of fresh cream in your cup, because it turns your perfect shot of espresso into the perfect Roman dessert.

Virtual Tour of Sistine Chapel | 360 Tour
The Sistine Chapel is a chapel in the Apostolic Palace, the official residence of the Pope, in Vatican City. Originally known as the Cappella Magna, the chapel takes its name from Pope Sixtus IV, who restored it between 1477 and 1480. Since that time, the chapel has served as a place of both religious and functionary papal activity. Today it is the site of the Papal conclave, the process by which a new pope is selected. The fame of the Sistine Chapel lies mainly in the frescos that decorate the interior, and most particularly the Sistine Chapel ceiling and The Last Judgment by Michelangelo.
During the reign of Sixtus IV, a team of Renaissance painters that included Sandro Botticelli, Pietro Perugino, Pinturicchio, Domenico Ghirlandaio and Cosimo Rosselli, created a series of frescos depicting the Life of Moses and the Life of Christ, offset by papal portraits above and trompe l’oeil drapery below. These paintings were completed in 1482, and on 15 August 1483 Sixtus IV celebrated the first mass in the Sistine Chapel for the Feast of the Assumption, at which ceremony the chapel was consecrated and dedicated to the Virgin Mary.
Between 1508 and 1512, under the patronage of Pope Julius II, Michelangelo painted the chapel's ceiling, a project which changed the course of Western art and is regarded as one of the major artistic accomplishments of human civilization. In a different climate after the Sack of Rome, he returned and between 1535 and 1541, painted The Last Judgment for Popes Clement VII and Paul III. The fame of Michelangelo's paintings has drawn multitudes of visitors to the chapel ever since they were revealed five hundred years ago.

Rome (Italian: Roma) is the capital city of Italy and a special comune (named Comune di Roma Capitale). Rome also serves as the capital of the Lazio region. With 2,868,782 residents in 1,285 km2 (496.1 sq mi), it is also the country's most populated comune. It is the fourth-most populous city in the European Union by population within city limits. It is the centre of the Metropolitan City of Rome, which has a population of 4.3 million residents. Rome is located in the central-western portion of the Italian Peninsula, within Lazio (Latium), along the shores of the Tiber. The Vatican City (the smallest country in the world) is an independent country inside the city boundaries of Rome, the only existing example of a country within a city: for this reason Rome has been often defined as capital of two states.
Rome's history spans 28 centuries. While Roman mythology dates the founding of Rome at around 753 BC, the site has been inhabited for much longer, making it one of the oldest continuously occupied sites in Europe. The city's early population originated from a mix of Latins, Etruscans, and Sabines. Eventually, the city successively became the capital of the Roman Kingdom, the Roman Republic and the Roman Empire, and is regarded as the birthplace of Western civilization and by some as the first ever metropolis. It was first called The Eternal City (Latin: Urbs Aeterna; Italian: La Città Eterna) by the Roman poet Tibullus in the 1st century BC, and the expression was also taken up by Ovid, Virgil, and Livy. Rome is also called the Caput Mundi (Capital of the World). After the fall of the Western Empire, which marked the beginning of the Middle Ages, Rome slowly fell under the political control of the Papacy, which had settled in the city since the 1st century AD, until in the 8th century it became the capital of the Papal States, which lasted until 1870. Beginning with the Renaissance, almost all the popes since Nicholas V (1447–1455) pursued over four hundred years a coherent architectural and urban programme aimed at making the city the artistic and cultural centre of the world. In this way, Rome became first one of the major centres of the Italian Renaissance, and then the birthplace of both the Baroque style and Neoclassicism. Famous artists, painters, sculptors and architects made Rome the centre of their activity, creating masterpieces throughout the city. In 1871, Rome became the capital of the Kingdom of Italy, which, in 1946, became the Italian Republic.
Rome has the status of a global city. In 2016, Rome ranked as the 14th-most-visited city in the world, 3rd most visited in the European Union, and the most popular tourist attraction in Italy. Its historic centre is listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. Monuments and museums such as the Vatican Museums and the Colosseum are among the world's most visited tourist destinations with both locations receiving millions of tourists a year, and the city hosted the 1960 Summer Olympics. Rome is the seat of several specialized agencies of the United Nations, such as the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the World Food Programme (WFP) and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD). The city hosts the headquarters of many international business companies, such as Eni, Enel, TIM, Leonardo S.p.A., and national and international banks such as Unicredit and BNL. Its business district, called EUR, is the base of many companies involved in the oil industry, the pharmaceutical industry, and financial services. Rome is also an important fashion and design centre thanks to renowned international brands centered in the city. Rome's Cinecittà Studios have been the set of many Academy Award–winning movies.

Ponte Sant'Angelo in Rome Italy
Ponte Sant'Angelo or St. Angelo Bridge is a pedestrian bridge in Rome that spans the Tiber River. The bridge was built by the Roman Emperor Hadrian to connect the city center to Castel Sant'Angelo.
