Kiev city is a destination we didn't know much about prior to traveling to Ukraine. Arriving with fresh eyes it didn't take us long to fall in love with Kyiv. Overall, we feel Kiev is one of the most underrated cities we've ever visited.

This week we’re showing you around Kiev, Ukraine. This was our first time travelling to the country, so we hardly knew what to expect, though we did have an inkling we’d find churches with onion domes, borsht on every menu, and very cheap prices, but that was it!
Well, we found some of that, but we also discovered a fascinating city with ornate architecture, massive Soviet monuments, a completely new cuisine, more churches and monasteries than we ever thought possible, and friendly people despite the language barrier.
The following is our travel guide to the city. Now let us share with you 20 things to do in Kiev on your next visit!
And that’s a wrap for our visit to Kiev! This was our first time travelling in Ukraine, but we were hooked right from the start.
This destination felt very underrated with few tourists around, yet we were surrounded by beautiful architecture, there were churches galore to visit, the cuisine was hearty and filling, and everything was super affordable.
If you are thinking of travelling to Kiev, we hope this video was able to give you a taste of what it’s like.
If you have any other suggestions of things to do in Kiev, that we may have missed, feel free to share your tips and suggestions with travellers in the comments.

Places to see in ( Paris - France ) Marche des Enfants Rouges
The Marché des Enfants Rouges is the oldest covered market in Paris, France. It was established in 1628 and is located at 39 Rue de Bretagne in the Marais arrondissement. The name in English translates as Market of the Red Children and refers to the children clothed in red (the color of charity) who were cared for in a nearby orphanage.
The market offers fresh fruits, vegetables, flowers and bread, plus restaurants where shoppers can buy cooked meals. The Enfants Rouges covered market, created in 1615, hasn’t aged a bit! Paris’s oldest food market is situated in the Haut Marais, close to rue de Bretagne. Parisians and tourists like to buy lots of fresh products at these stalls full of colour and fragrance.
The friendly atmosphere is ideal for a quick lunch at the Italian deli, the organic stand, the Lebanese caterer or at the Japanese snack bar. On Sunday, brunch fans head to L’Estaminet, a restaurant tucked away in the heart of the market, or to La Petite Fabrique.

Paris, France Video Tour
A Video Tour of Paris, France. Paris France Points of Interest & Paris France Attractions. Many guests choose to enjoy a tour of Paris before or after their cruise. Paris, the ‘City of Lights', is one of the world's truly great cities. The River Seine, lifeblood of the city, splits it neatly in two, flowing past the Ile de la Cité and the famous cathedral of Notre Dame. The history and culture of Paris can also be discovered throughout its distinctive districts. The village atmosphere of hilly Montmartre with its elegant landmark the Sacre Coeur; the Marais district and its winding streets that evoke medieval Paris; and the grand 19th century boulevards that dominate so much of the city.
Paris, France
Paris has so much to offer with its huge variety of heritage, architecture and culture, from the grace of the Louvre Museum, to the ultra-modern Opera de la Bastille; from the wondrous Eiffel Tower, to the Champs-Elysées headed by the Arc de Triomphe. All this, together with wonderful restaurants and some of the best shopping in the world make Paris an unmissable place to visit.
The stylish 12 passenger Panache & the deluxe 8 passenger La Nouvelle Etoile either begin or end many of their cruises in the heart of Paris throughout the year. Whether entering Paris from the north from Picardy, the east from Champagne or south from Burgundy, passing the infamous Eiffel Tower and the magnificent Notre Dame is always one of the great highlights of the cruise.
Many people choose to visit Paris before or after their cruise, a visit in contrast to the peace and relaxation of the cruise itself. This is why the crew of all of our barges which cruise in Burgundy, including our deluxe flag ship La Renaissance, pick you up and drop you off in the heart of Paris, a transfer by air conditioned mini bus included in the price of the cruise.
What is hotel barging?
Despite the growing popularity of cruising, especiallly on large river vessels, hotel barging is still a little known niche concept. Most hotel barges started life as cargo vessels but have since been painstakingly converted to offer luxury boutique accommodation for small groups of up to 20 passengers.
This is cruising, but in a very different style to ships plying the big rivers or oceans. The pace is slow, with a 6 day cruise covering maybe just 50 miles along a rural canal. Passengers can walk or bike the towpaths as their floating hotel glides gently along. Guests enjoy an intimate atmosphere, high levels of personal service and immersion into the culture, history and gastronomy of regions of Europe such as Burgundy, the Midi, or the Italian Veneto.
Every day there is an excursion, perhaps to a chateau, a vineyard for a wine tasting, or some other ‘off the beaten track’ location. About half of European Waterways’ bookings are for whole boat charters, ideal for families. Otherwise, clients book a cabin to join other like-minded people. A ‘slow boat’ European Waterways barge cruise offers the ultimate in experiential travel. A truly unique experience!
European Waterways offer luxury hotel barge cruises on the beautiful canals and rivers of Europe, such as through Burgundy, the Midi, Alsace, the Po Valley, Holland and the Scottish Highlands.
The exclusive collection of hotel barges accommodate up to 20 passengers who may charter a whole barge with family or friends, or join a small group of like-minded travellers on an individual cabin basis.
Each barge is fully crewed with a Captain, chef, hostesses, deck-hand and tour guide. The 6-night cruises include gourmet meals, fine wines, open bar, excursions and the use of facilities such as bicycles and spa pools.
Hotel Formule 1 Saint-Denis, France -- CHEAP and CONVENIENT!
Use the 'net to book in advance at the Formule 1 in Saint-Denis, on Blvd Lenine (not sure about the spelling, Lenin Boulevard, anyway, think of Lenin) -- these pod hotels are often not that great a deal, because they tend to be located on the outskirts of towns, by the highways, and you really need a car.
The accommodations are bare-bones and you might feel a bit lost at first, because there often isn't a real reception desk or any real services of any kind, but you get used to it quickly, and it's great!
YOU SHOULD RESERVE and get there a little early! A lot of these fill up WAY in advance, and there might even be slight over-booking. You have to get used to interfacing with a computer terminal OUTSIDE, and frankly, they are not all that user-friendly sometimes!
The breakfasts are pretty loathesome and you are better off, at this particular one, anyway, just to pop outside and walk a block over to a bar, and stand at the counter and get un petit café and a tartine (buttered bread) and then press on. Paris is NOT a late-night city, and you should try to get up and get moving early. We have great public transportation here, but it takes a long time to get from point A to point B!
If I were you, I'd arrange to see only one sight each morning, stop at noon and have lunch, take a little rest if possible, then in the afternoons, stroll! Forget about running here and there! The real joy can be in just lingering in any old neighborhood, on a free bench, even, watching the world go by! Use your afternoons for shopping, too. Most places close for lunch -- be prepared! And be seated at noon -- they will start running out of food quickly if it's a good place, and it is likely to be crowded at 1 pm. Do NOT go after 2 pm and expect to be seated and served!
Dinner starts again at 7 pm.
If you really get hungry at other times, pop into a Franprix or Monoprix grocery store, and they even have great ready-made food you can just take out, and save a bundle!
I can help you do business in France, and can guide you through the flea markets and other neat places -- it takes a habitué to get through these joints! Le Marché de Saint-Denis runs every Tuesday, Friday and Sunday morning and you are just plain ol' clueless if you miss it! Arguably the largest and best market in all of Europe. Get there early -- 8 am or so is fine. Sunday mornings are a MADHOUSE! Go to Mass at the Basilica of Saint-Denis at 10 am every Sunday and hear the magnificent pipe organ, one of the rarest and best in the world, and enjoy a huge, multi-ethnic congregation. After the services, you can pay to get into the back of the Abbey Church, and visit the Necropolis of the Kings, the crypt, and more -- there may be special tours and visits available. The Office de Tourisme in Saint-Denis can help you out, and wow, do they have great stuff for sale there!
