HOLLAND: 't Huys Dever, castle tower - Lisse [HD]
't Huys Dever in Lisse is a 14th century residencial castle tower, a fortified building, as there have been many in the coastal region. Except for Dever they are all gone. Surrounding the complex was a wide moat.
Around 1580 and between 1630 to 1634, buildings were added, making it a manor-house. This was occupied until about 1750.
Vacancy led to the collapse of the first extension in 1848. Within ten years the 16th-and 17th-century extensions disappeared, leaving the tower detached again.
The roof of the castle tower collapsed in 1862, after which the interior largely followed.
In 1949, the Lisse Municipal Authorities acquired the ruins. After the restoration of 1973-1978 the residence castle tower was opened to the public.
't Huys Dever is open to visitors from Tuesdays through Sundays from 14:00 to 17:00. Admission is free. Location: Lisse - South Holland, Netherlands
