The Road Less Traveled : Usedom Island - Heringsdorf Travel Vlog
On this episode of The Road Less Traveled, travel to Ostseebad Heringsdorf in Usedom Island, Germany. Located on the eastern side of Germany, the island on the Baltic Sea is divided between Germany and Poland. Visit the charming sea-side village with its colonial-style villas in this vlog.
The Road Less Traveled captures the sights and attractions in cities or towns that is not a mainstream or typical tourist destinations.
Unfortunately, the weather wasn't the best it could have been as I visited, but I thought it would still be an interesting place to see. I haven't been able to travel much in these past 8 months or so, hence the first episode of The Road Less Traveled in a long while. I hope you'll enjoy the vlog!

7 Tipps für die Insel Rügen | Urlaub in Deutschland | Lilies Diary
Rügen - die größte Insel in Deutschland hat mich für ein paar Tage verzaubert und ich möchte euch 7 Rügen Reisetipps mit auf den Weg geben, so dass ihr auch eine unvergessliche Zeit dort habt. Ich habe mir das Seebad Selig angeschaut, war auf dem Baumwipfelpfad mit Ausblick auf den Kleinen Jasmunder Bodden, habe die Kreidefelsen von Rügen im Nationalpark Jasmund besucht, bin Schiff gefahren, habe die Seele in einem Strandkorb in Bin baumeln lassen und an der Steilküste von Rügen entlang gewandert. Irre, was man alles in ein paar Tagen erleben kann. Vom schönen einsamen Strand bis hin zum UNESCO-Weltnaturerbe.

Usedom, an island in the Baltic Sea, consists of rolling hills and beautiful lakes. There you can experience the wonderful North German natural forests and hiking trails. Villages and towns have often kept its original appearance. In the north there are long sandy beaches, which are very popular with tourists. It is an island where you can make very nice holiday.
Usedom, eine Insel in der Ostsee, besteht aus sanften Hügeln und schönen Seen. Man kann dort wunderbar die norddeutsche Natur in Wäldern und auf Wanderwegen erleben. Dörfer und Städte haben noch vielfach ihr ursprüngliches Aussehen bewahrt. Im Norden gibt es lange Sandstrände, die bei Touristen sehr beliebt sind. Es ist eine Insel auf der man sehr schön Urlaub machen kann.

Usedom, una isla en el Mar Báltico, se compone de colinas y hermosos lagos. Allí se puede disfrutar de los maravillosos bosques naturales del norte de Alemania y rutas de senderismo. Pueblos y ciudades a menudo han mantenido su aspecto original. En el norte hay largas playas de arena, que son muy populares entre los turistas. Es una isla donde se pueden hacer muy buenas vacaciones.

Usedom, un'isola nel Mar Baltico, è costituito da colline e splendidi laghi. Ci si può godere delle splendide foreste naturali della Germania settentrionale e sentieri escursionistici. Villaggi e città hanno spesso mantenuto il suo aspetto originario. Nel nord ci sono lunghe spiagge sabbiose, che sono molto popolari tra i turisti. Island Usedom under Summer Clouds
Usedom represents the second largest island of Germany and is located in the southwestern Baltic Sea. The Border between Germany and Poland runs along the island, dividing it into a bigger German part (373 km²) and a much smaller polish part (72 km²).
The Peenestrom (a gut) and the Stettin Lagoon separate Usedom from the mainland.
The island is famous for its kilometer long sandy beaches. Additionally the area has the greatest number of sunny days within whole Germany. Due to these georgaphic and climatic conditions, Usedom looks back to a longer history of bath tourism.
In Prussian times, the island developed into a resort. This was supported by the fact that in 1825 the villages Swinemünde and Heringsdorf were modified into bathing-beach-areas.
But the major times of the great seaside resorts finally began in 1871 after the foundation of the Deutsches Reich (German Reich, nation state).
During the Nazi-Regime the island became famous for its Army Research Center in Peenemünde. There the V-2 was produced.
This was the reason for a remarkable air attack by the Royal Air Force and the United States Army Air Forces against Swinemünde in 12 March 1945. Many people (civilians) died.
Today Usedom is a bathing resort and popular Germany wide. But the island offers much more than only beautiful beaches and sunny days. There are 12 nature reserve areas existing, which already in times of the GDR became protected zones (NSG and LSG).
One of them is located at the top of the Peenemünder Peninsula (Peenemünder Haken, Struck and Ruden). I unfortunately could not reach this Nature Reserve, but most of the nature footage was captured along the Peenemünder Peninsula between Zinnowitz, Trassenheide and Karlshagen.
The historic bridge of Ahlbeck is the oldest pier of Germany and was constructed in 1882 and upgraded 1898, 1905 and in the 1930th. It's well visible to in my footage too.
