Simrishamn is a locality and the seat of Simrishamn Municipality, Skåne County, Sweden with 6,527 inhabitants in 2010. Simrishamn is, despite its small population, for historical reasons normally still referred to as a city. Simrishamn is a picturesque coastal town, built around the main street , that passes the market square, itself being the centre of the town. The climate of Simrishamn is mild, because it is warmed by the Gulf Stream, and the hardiness zone of Simrishamn is 8a and this is comparable to Paris, France.

Ale's Stones is a megalithic monument in Scania in southern Sweden. It is a stone ship, oval in outline, with the stones at each end markedly larger than the rest. It is 67 m long formed by 59 large boulders, weighing up to 1.8 tonnes each. The carbon-14 dating system for organic remains has provided seven results at the site. One indicates that the material is around 5,500 years old whereas the remaining six indicate a date about 1,400 years ago. The latter is considered to be the most likely time for Ales Stenar to have been created. That would place its creation towards the end of the Nordic Iron Age.

Stenshuvud is a hill in the southeastern corner of Sweden, in the province of Scania, close to Kivik in Simrishamn Municipality. Since 1986, it is one of the National parks of Sweden. The park covers an area of about 3.9 km2 . The hill is 97 m high and faces the Baltic Sea. Since the surrounding landscape is relatively flat, it can be seen from a great distance and has traditionally been used as a landmark for seafarers. Many visitors trek up the hill to enjoy the view which is very good in clear weather. Most of the area is covered with broadleaf forest, especially European hornbeam. Travel Sweden | Touristing in Simrishamn & Kivik

My friend Charlotte and I took an improvised trip and ended up in Simrishamn! It's situated in the eastern part of Skåne (Sweden's southernmost region) and is a very nice port city that used to be a fishing village in the time of the vikings. We had a walk around town, the beach and visited St Nikolai church.

After that we took a bus to Kivik and its musteri where they make apple juice, wine and other delicious products. All because of the Jojo Sommarkort (summer card) that lets us travel Skåne for free (price: 595 SEK, then unlimited travel on all trains and buses from 15 June - 15 August).

Sleeping in Sweden

I went on a solo trip to Iceland, where I took a road trip to the Westfjords and back to the Reykjavik area. From Iceland I went to Scandinavia and the ex-Soviets, traveling to Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Estonia, Russia and Finland. I drove, camped, slept on boats, ate and ate and starved.

I love traveling alone. When I travel alone I relish in the sweetest sense of freedom and I feel completely exhilarated. It's not, however, without some bittersweet moments. It's when the most beautiful experience absorbs me that I am reminded I cannot share that instance in time with anyone.

This is the next best thing.

Note about this journal: I lost my memory cards in Iceland. On my last day of my trip, I lost two memory cards, 32 gigs of video and photographs, dropped out of my bag in downtown Reykjavik. I lost them in early July either at the Flea Market, Islenski Barinn (Islandic Bar) or near Icelandic Fish & Chips / Tryggva. And since I was alone during my whole trip, I lost entire cities and special places dear to me. My journal is incomplete. Please contact me if you have the cards and recognize me in the photos and videos. Help me recover my memories--thank you!

Karlskrona — Der Süden Schwedens

Karlskrona ist eine wunderschöne Hafenstadt in der Region Blekinge im Süden von Schweden. Sie besticht durch ihre Lage auf 30 Inseln, die mit Brücken an einander verbunden sind. Die Stadtstruktur verleiht Karlskrona eine einzigartige Atmosphäre. Das bekannte Museum begeistert Jung und Alt mit einer Galionshalle, U-Booten, einem Unterwassertunnel mit archäologischen Funden und Wrackteilen und weiteren Ausstellungen.
